The Giants placed Verlander on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a right pectoral strain, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Manager Bob Melvin revealed Wednesday that Verlander was bound for the IL and that transaction is now official. The veteran hurler began experiencing pectoral soreness prior to his last start over the weekend against the Athletics and was unable to make enough progress in between outings to avoid the IL. Verlander will be eligible for activation June 3, but it's too soon to know whether he will be ready to go on that date.

Murphy is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Murphy looks to have fallen into the short side of a platoon at catcher with rookie Drake Baldwin, who will make a fifth straight start against a right-hander (Trevor Williams) Thursday. On the flip side, seven of Murphy's last eight starts have come against left-handed pitching.

Quintana (shoulder) will throw roughly 45 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The bullpen session will include two "up-downs" to simulate rest in between innings. The Brewers will make a determination on the next steps for Quintana based on how the hurler feels during the session and how he recovers. Quintana has been sidelined since mid-May due to a left shoulder impingement.

Canario is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Brewers.

Canario had started the previous four contests and 11 of the last 12 tilts, but he'll get a breather in Thursday's series opener. Tommy Pham is handling left field and batting eighth for the Pirates.

Young (shoulder) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Young was not going to start Wednesday's game before it was rained out, and he'll remain out of the batting order for Thursday's series finale. He has not played since hurting his left shoulder when he collided with the outfield wall Saturday. Robert Hassell is in center field and batting seventh for the Nationals in his major-league debut.

The Rockies placed Dollander on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right forearm tightness, retroactive to Monday.

Dollander pitched well during his most recent start Sunday, giving up just one run and striking out six batters in 4.2 innings, but he appears to have come away from his outing with a forearm issue that will sideline him for a couple of weeks. Juan Mejia will come up from Triple-A to fill the open roster spot, though it's unclear who will take Dollander's place in the starting rotation.

The Rockies recalled Mejia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

He's absorbing the roster spot vacated by Chase Dollander (forearm), who went on the 15-day injured list. Mejia has made six appearances out of the Rockies' bullpen this season, permitting eight runs (four earned) with a 10:3 K:BB across 7.2 frames.

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that Toglia is out of the lineup again Thursday in order to work on his swing and approach, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Toglia is absent from the Rockies' lineup for a second straight day Thursday and the third time over the last six contests. However, it sounds like this is more of a reset for the first baseman rather than a demotion. Toglia is slashing only .205/.272/.367 with a league-leading 71 strikeouts this season.

Jacob allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning versus Toronto on Wednesday.

When Jacob entered with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Padres were still hanging around despite a 4-0 deficit. The righty reliever allowed two inherited runners plus one of his own to cross the plate before getting the final out in that frame, then allowed six straight hitters to reach (one on an error) without getting an out in the eighth before being pulled with San Diego down 12-0. Jacob held a 2.75 ERA through his first 18 appearances, but he's given up multiple runs in two of his past three outings as his ERA has more than doubled to 5.82. He's a non-factor in fantasy due to a low-leverage role (he has just two holds and no saves across his 21 total appearances) and a low strikeout rate (6.6 K/9).

Marchan will start at catcher and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Rockies.

With top backstop J.T. Realmuto getting a breather for the day game after a night game, Marchan will pick up his 10th start of the season. So long as Realmuto stays healthy, he'll likely shoulder one of the heaviest workloads among No. 1 catchers, leaving few opportunities available for Marchan.
