Stanek walked one and recorded one strikeout in a scoreless seventh inning in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Mets.

Stanek handled the ninth inning in both of the Cardinals' previous two wins, picking up the save on Opening Day against the Rays before blowing the save in the second game of the season. Manager Oliver Marmol opted to use Stanek in a setup role Tuesday, and Stanek had his best inning of the young season. With Stanek used earlier in the game, the Cardinals went to Riley O'Brien for the ninth inning Tuesday, and he slammed the door shut on the Mets, setting them down in order on 11 pitches to pick up his first save of the season. All three of Stanek, O'Brien and JoJo Romero figure to get save chances for the Cardinals this season.

Suarez (0-1) took the loss against the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six across 3.2 innings.

Suarez opened Tuesday's game strongly by striking out two of the first three batters he faced, but he struggled across the next three frames before being pulled in the fourth. He was tabbed as Atlanta's fifth starter in the rotation after Spencer Strider (oblique) opened the season on the 15-day IL, but performances like Tuesday's will put Suarez in danger of losing his spot to candidates like Martin Perez and Didier Fuentes. For now, Suarez is slated to start against the Diamondbacks this weekend.

Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk during Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Athletics.

Baldwin got Atlanta on the board with a solo homer off Aaron Civale in the first inning. Baldwin demonstrated his power potential in 2025, when he smacked 19 long balls in 446 plate appearances in the regular season. He already has three solo homers through the first five games of 2026 and has gone 5-for-19 (.263) over that span.

O'Brien picked up his first save of the season in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Mets. He didn't allow a hit or a walk with no strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

It's notable that manager Oliver Marmol went to O'Brien for the ninth inning after the Cardinals' first two save chances of the season were given to Ryne Stanek in the opening series against the Rays. Stanek pitched the seventh inning against the Mets on Tuesday, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless frame. Stanek's save chances have been a rollercoaster, as he walked three on Opening Day and blew the save the following game, only to pick up the win later. O'Brien was effective in the role last season after Ryan Helsley was dealt at the trade deadline. The 31-year-old O'Brien turned in a 2.06 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB across 48 innings last regular season and picked up all six of his saves following Helsley's departure. The Cardinals figure to give O'Brien, Stanek and JoJo Romero save opportunities this season.

Pallante (1-0) picked up the win against the Mets on Tuesday after throwing five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out three.

Pallante didn't have his best stuff by any means, but the Mets' bats were quiet and couldn't find any holes in the St. Louis defense. Pallante is a back-of-the-rotation type who isn't going to miss many bats and needs his defense, making him an uninteresting mixed-league option ahead of next week's road date with the Nationals.

Feltner was removed from his start Tuesday against the Blue Jays due to a right glute contusion.

Feltner took a 106-mph line drive off his backside in the third inning of Tuesday's contest. He remained on the mound for the rest of the inning but seemed to limp off the field after collecting the final out and didn't come out to pitch the fourth. He appears to have avoided a serious injury, though it remains unknown whether he'll make his next start, tentatively scheduled to come against Houston on Monday. The 29-year-old righty had allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four batters before leaving the game.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Suzuki (knee) will begin a rehab assignment during Chicago's upcoming road trip, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

The Cubs will begin a six-game road trip Friday in Cleveland. While Counsell was unsure which day Suzuki would begin his assignment, it's evident he's nearing a return to the field. Suzuki suffered a strained PCL a little over two weeks ago during the World Baseball Classic. Michael Conforto and Matt Shaw have been seeing increased playing time with Suzuki sidelined.

Del Castillo (calf) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.

Del Castillo missed the entirety of Cactus League play with a strained left calf, so this is a big step in his recovery to see some game action. Del Castillo appeared in 44 regular-season games with the Diamondbacks last season and slashed .242/.290/.392 with four home runs, 17 RBI, nine runs scored and an 8:47 BB:K across 131 plate appearances.

Laureano is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

After starting the first four games of the season and going 5-for-14 with a double, a homer and a stolen base, Laureano will receive a day off Tuesday. Nick Castellanos will take over in left field while Miguel Andujar receives a start at designated hitter.

Canning (Achilles) will start for Double-A San Antonio on a rehab assignment Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Canning is nearing a return from a torn Achilles that he suffered last June while with the Mets. The right-hander inked a one-year deal with San Diego last month and could be a candidate for the Padres' rotation once healthy. Walker Buehler and German Marquez are currently occupying the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation for San Diego, but Buehler was hit hard in his first start Monday against the Giants.
