Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI
Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Implodes in fifth inning
Luzardo didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing six runs on two hits and five walks in five innings. He struck out seven.
Luzardo's up-and-down season continued, as he surrendered at least five runs for the fourth time in his last 10 starts. He melted down during a calamitous fifth inning, when Boston drove in six runs on two hits and four walks in the frame. While the hard-throwing left-hander has fanned at least seven on six occasions across his last 10 outings, he's witnessed his ERA balloon from 2.15 on May 25 to 4.58 for the year following Wednesday's clunker. Luzardo has a 8.04 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 59:24 K:BB over his last 47 innings, and things may not get much easier his next time out against a White Sox team with a .827 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the start of July.

Mookie Betts SS | LAD
Dodgers' Mookie Betts: May be out Friday
Manager Dave Roberts said after Wednesday's win over the Twins that Betts may not be with the team Friday due to personal reasons, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
It hasn't yet been confirmed if Betts will be unavailable for Friday's series opener in Boston, but it's certainly a situation worth monitoring. Miguel Rojas would presumably start at shortstop if the eight-time All-Star is unable to play.

Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI
Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Crushes 34th homer Wednesday
Schwarber went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox.
Schwarber clobbered homer No. 34 on the season, which ranks fifth in the major leagues. The All-Star slugger doesn't tend to hit for a high average, but he's done a fine job of keeping fantasy managers afloat in that category on top of his exceptional power production in 2025. Over his last 72 games (319 plate appearances), Schwarber is slashing .252/.367/.574 with 25 round trippers, 12 doubles, 55 RBI and seven stolen bases.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Goes yard in fifth straight game
Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Twins.
Ohtani continued his remarkable power surge, tying a Dodgers franchise record by homering in his fifth consecutive game, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com. The two-way superstar continues to be a fantasy sensation in all formats in 2025. Since the beginning of May, Ohtani is slashing .268/.371/.646 with 30 long balls, 60 RBI, 65 runs scored and four stolen bases across 329 plate appearances.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Smacks leadoff homer
Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Astros.
Marte led off the bottom of the first with a 420-foot blast off Brandon Walter, his 20th homer of the season and first since July 3. Marte, who returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing Arizona's previous three games due to a personal matter, had gone just 10-for-47 (.213) through his first 13 games in July. Overall, the second baseman is slashing .287/.389/.566 with 41 RBI, 55 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 311 plate appearances this year.

Brooks Kriske RP | ATH
Cubs' Brooks Kriske: Continues strong start with Cubs
Kriske tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals. He allowed a hit and two walks while striking out one.
Kriske has now logged three scoreless appearances to begin his tenure with the Cubs, spanning five innings. The 31-year-old righty has bounced between the minors and majors during his career, and he's probably nothing more than organizational depth at this point. However, Kriske has pitched well, so it's possible he sticks around in Chicago and sees more meaningful relief work down the road.

Pete Crow-Armstrong CF | CHC
Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong: Goes deep in loss
Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals.
Following his first All-Star Game nod last week, Crow-Armstrong has come out of the break firing on all cylinders. Across his first five games of the second half, the young outfielder has gone 7-for-20 with two home runs and a stolen base. For the season, Crow-Armstrong now has 27 long balls to go along with 28 steals, putting a 40-40 campaign well within reach.

Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD
Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Season-best outing vs. Twins
Glasnow didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in seven innings. He struck out 12.
It was a dominant performance from Glasnow, who recorded a season-high 12 punchouts and induced a whopping 19 whiffs in his longest outing of the year. The star right-hander has yet to give up greater than four hits in any of his first eight appearances in 2025, and he also encouragingly fired his most pitches (106) of the campaign Wednesday in his third start since coming off the injured list. Glasnow boasts a 2.75 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB across 36 frames, but he'll be tested at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park in his next scheduled outing against the Reds.

Matt Shaw RF | CHC
Cubs' Matt Shaw: Post-break surge continues
Shaw went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals.
The rookie took Steven Cruz deep in the seventh inning, Shaw's fifth homer of the season and third in the last five games. He's batting .474 (9-for-19) since the All-Star break, adding two steals, four runs and six RBI to his long balls, but he still has a lot of work to do to climb out of the hole he dug prior to the Midsummer Classic -- over his last 25 games before the break, Shaw slashed a woeful .107/.198/.147.

Brandon Pfaadt RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Allows two runs in no-decision
Pfaadt didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Astros, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
Pfaadt was dominant early, allowing just three hits through his first five scoreless innings. However, he'd falter in the sixth, allowing two runs when Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz led off the frame with back-to-back doubles. Pfaadt had been on a roll coming into Wednesday's outing -- he'd won his previous two starts while giving up just two runs over 15 innings. Overall, the 26-year-old right-hander sports a 4.76 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB across 21 starts (111.2 innings). Pfaadt's currently scheduled to face the Tigers on the road his next time out.
