Juan Soto LF | NYM
Mets' Juan Soto: Marching toward 30-30
Soto went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 12-5 win over the Tigers.
The $765 million man continues to be worth every penny, going back-to-back with Pete Alonso in the seventh inning off Chris Paddack as the Mets blew the game open. Soto has reached base safely in 12 straight games, slashing a massive .390/.569/.878 over that stretch with 16 runs and 19 RBI, and on the season he's up to 37 homers -- four shy of the career high he set with the Yankees in 2024 -- and a career-high 27 steals, shattering his previous best of 12 pilfers.

Pete Alonso 1B | BAL
Mets' Pete Alonso: Goes yard twice in Detroit
Alonso went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 12-5 win over the Tigers.
The first baseman racked up 823 feet worth of long balls by taking Sawyer Gipson-Long deep in the first inning and Chris Paddack in the seventh. Alonso is up to 33 homers on the season through 139 games, including five in his last 11 contests, and with 23 games left on the Mets' schedule, he's got a shot at reaching 40 for the fourth time in his career.

Nolan McLean SP | NYM
Mets' Nolan McLean: Remains undefeated
McLean (4-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 12-5 victory over the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out seven.
The rookie right-hander wasn't quite as sharp as he'd been over his last two starts, when he dazzled with a 13:0 K:BB over 15 innings, but McLean got stronger as the game went on and retired the final 14 batters he faced. He's won all four of his big-league starts, posting a 1.37 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB through 26.1 frames and injecting serious life into the Mets' playoff hopes. The team's rotation is potentially in flux, but McLean likely lines up to make his next trip to the mound on the road early next week in a huge NL East clash with the Phillies.

Jose Ferrer RP | SEA
Nationals' Jose Ferrer: Locks down sixth save
Ferrer earned another save in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Marlins, tossing a perfect frame while striking out one.
Ferrer closed the door on the Marlins for a second straight day and now has converted a save in five of his last seven appearances. He's slid into the closer role admirably since the departure of Kyle Finnegan at the trade deadline, tossing 13.1 scoreless frames since Aug. 3 while posting a 12:1 K:BB.

TJ Friedl CF | CIN
Reds' TJ Friedl: Logs two hits, homer in loss
Friedl went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 11-8 loss to the Blue Jays.
Friedl is heating up as the calendar flips to September. He's logged three consecutive multi-hit efforts, going 7-for-14 with a double, a home run and four RBI during that stretch. Tuesday's homer was his 11th of the season, and the runs upped his total to 73, second on the club behind Elly De La Cruz (95).

Cade Cavalli SP | WAS
Nationals' Cade Cavalli: Bounces back with win
Cavalli (2-1) earned the win Tuesday over the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings.
Cavalli had a strong bounce-back outing after getting pummeled for eight runs (seven earned) by the Yankees in his previous start. He tossed three scoreless frames before the Marlins pushed a pair of runs across in the fourth and he was eventually pulled after tossing 75 pitches through five. Cavalli's fastball topped out at 99 mph and he tied his season high in strikeouts despite the quick hook. Cavalli is over 100 innings pitched for the season between the majors and minors, so it wouldn't be surprising to see some restrictions as the season winds down. He's currently lined up to face Miami again on the road next week.

Tyler Stephenson C | CIN
Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Ready for rehab assignment
Stephenson (thumb) caught two innings of a simulated game Tuesday and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
Stephenson was behind the plate for rehabbing right-hander Chase Burns' (elbow) throwing session as a final test for the thumb guard that's been fitted to his catcher's mitt. The backstop has been on the shelf since Aug. 20 due to a fractured thumb on his left (non-throwing) hand, but since he's been able to catch multiple bullpen sessions in addition to taking batting practice, he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment. He could be a candidate for activation from the 10-day injured list for this weekend's series with the Mets.

James Wood RF | WAS
Nationals' James Wood: Homers in Tuesday's win
Wood went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.
Wood provided a clutch home run in the fourth to push the Nationals ahead 5-2, which would remain the score the rest of the way. He's now posted five multi-hit efforts across his last 11 games, but Tuesday's homer was just his third since July 10. Wood also owns a 40.1 percent strikeout rate since coming back from the All-Star break, as his strikeout issues remain a glaring issue, especially with his power numbers taking a decline from earlier in the season.

Adam Mazur P | MIA
Marlins' Adam Mazur: Allows 10 hits in loss
Mazur (0-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five in six innings.
Mazur set a career-worst mark with 10 hits allowed, and five of the 10 hits went for extra bases. The biggest hit of the night against him was a two-run blast in the fourth by James Wood. Mazur was able to finish strong with two scoreless frames and tied his career high with six innings. He's tentatively lined up to complete a two-start week with a tough matchup against the Phillies.

Jorge Barrosa CF | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Gets start in left field
Barrosa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rangers.
In the Diamondbacks' first game without primary left fielder Lourdes Gurriel (knee), the switch-hitting Barrosa drew the start against a left-hander (Jacob Latz). Going forward, left field could consist of Jake McCarthy against right-handers while Barrosa or Blaze Alexander take over against southpaws.
