Rafael Devers 1B | SF
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Another hitless night
Devers batted second and went 0-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Mets.
Devers was moved up the batting order behind Jarren Duran with the hope he'd see more fastballs and emerge from a slump. The theory was sound, but it didn't work out. Devers drove in a run on a sacrifice fly -- his first RBI in seven games -- but went hitless for the fifth time in the last six contests (1-for-24, seven strikeouts).

Jarren Duran LF | BOS
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Two hits in loss
Duran went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Mets.
Duran returned to the leadoff spot after a one-game respite and recorded Boston's lone hit with a runner in scoring position. He's hit safely in six straight games, going 8-for-24 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored during that stretch.

Matt Vierling CF | DET
Tigers' Matt Vierling: Homer, stolen base in loss
Vierling went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Padres.
Vierling kicked things off for Detroit with a two-out solo homer in the top of the first before also reaching on a fielder's choice play in the third. He would then come around to score on a Colt Keith single after stealing second, marking his third multi-run effort in his last eight starts. Vierling also tallied a single in the contest, giving him back-to-back multi-hit games and he's now hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games overall. Over that latter stretch he's batting .340 (16-for-47) with two homers, four doubles, five RBI and nine runs scored.

Keider Montero SP | DET
Tigers' Keider Montero: Can't get through five frames
Montero did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning loss to the Padres on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
Montero held the Padres scoreless through the first three innings before failing to retire three of the first four batters in the fourth -- the latter of which would take the right-hander deep for a three-run shot. Montero then went on to surrender another two runs in the fifth as San Diego tied the game at 5-5, and he would not make it through the frame, marking his shortest outing since June 26 against Philadelphia (span of 11 starts). The five runs allowed on the night matched a season high for the 24-year-old and he's now given up multiple runs in each of his last three starts. Montero has also issued multiple free passes in five-consecutive outings.

The utility man would later add a double and a sacrifice fly during a seven-run seventh inning for Seattle, marking his second-straight start in which he logged multiple hits. The infielder then added a leadoff homer in the seventh to extend the lead, followed by another RBI double in the eighth, giving him his first three-hit performance of the campaign, as well as his first hits since being promoted to the majors last week. Urias' four RBI on the night also marked a season high.

Athletics' JP Sears: Allows five runs in loss
Sears (11-10) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk over five innings while striking out five.

The lefty would eventually go on to surrender two runs in the frame following a double from Mitch Garver, and was tagged for another three runs in the fourth after allowing four-consecutive hits with two outs. Despite his struggles, Sears was still able to get through six innings for the seventh time in his last eight starts, though he's now given up five earned runs in two of his last three outings. Sears also carries a strong 30:8 K:BB since the start of August and will look to get back in the winning column when the A's travel to Houston to take on the Astros next week.

The right-hander also recorded his second-highest strikeout total of the season Wednesday while securing his third win in his last four decisions. On the downside, Kirby has now allowed multiple runs in seven consecutive starts.
