  • Griffin Jax RP | TB

Rays' Griffin Jax: Woes continue to open 2026

Jax (0-2) took the loss Wednesday versus the Brewers, giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits and one walk. He failed to record an out.

The right-hander was summoned in the eighth inning of a tie game Wednesday, but he was unable to keep it knotted up. A fielding error by Junior Caminero prevented two of Jax's runs from being earned, but the hurler's struggles to begin the season continue to be concerning. Jax has now yielded five earned runs over two innings (four appearances), failing to convert each of his two save chances, and it wouldn't be surprising if Garrett Cleavinger or Bryan Baker received Tampa Bay's next save opportunity while Jax searches for his form.

  • Roman Anthony RF | BOS

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Homers off the bench

Anthony went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Astros.

After starting the game on the bench, Anthony came on as a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth and launched an opposite-field homer off a Bryan Abreu two-strike slider, his first long ball this season. While Boston's comeback bid would fall short, Anthony's homer is certainly a positive sign -- the outfielder had gone 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts in his previous three contests.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Belts three-run homer in win

Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 win against Seattle.

The veteran first baseman drew a rare start versus a right-hander with Giancarlo Stanton getting the day off, launching his first homer of the campaign. Goldschmidt is still expected to see most of his playing time come against left-handed pitching in 2026, as Ben Rice is set to handle the bulk of the reps at first base going forward while Stanton receives the majority of the action at designated hitter.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Launches three-run homer

Correa went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.

Correa put the Astros ahead for good Wednesday with a two-out, three-run homer off Garrett Crochet in the fifth inning, his first long ball this season. Correa's gotten off to a nice start this season, going 8-for-25 with seven RBI in his first seven games while splitting time between shortstop and third base. Correa slashed .276/.332/.402 with 13 homers and 52 RBI across 144 games between Houston and Minnesota last year.

  • George Kirby SP | SEA

Mariners' George Kirby: Serves up three-run homer in loss

Kirby (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander gave up just one run through five frames, but Paul Goldschmidt's three-run homer in sixth inning left a big mark on Kirby's ledger. Kirby has now gone at least six innings in each of his first two starts of the year, but he's now been taken deep twice already. Kirby will be trying to keep the ball in the yard the next time he takes the mound, which is set come in Texas versus the division-rival Rangers next week.

  • Yankees' Cam Schlittler: Another dominant outing

Schlittler (2-0) notched the win Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.

After giving up just one hit in his season debut against the Giants, Schlitter was nearly unhittable again Wednesday. The Mariners offered very little resistance against the right-hander, who pounded the zone for 58 strikes out of his 79 pitches while posting a strong 13 swings and misses. Schlittler has a shiny 15:0 K:BB through his first 11.2 frames of 2026, and he'll be looking to touch the 80-pitch marker for the first time this year in his next scheduled outing against the Athletics.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Yankees' David Bednar: Holds on for third save

Bednar earned the save Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing one run on three hit and no walks in 1.1 innings. He struck out one.

The right-hander surrendered his first run of the season, but he survived Seattle's late comeback attempt for his third save of the campaign. Bednar fired 40 pitches Wednesday and recorded more than three outs for the first time this year, but he might have a chance to be available for Friday's series opener versus Miami following Thursday's day off. He's 3-for-3 on save opportunities thus far in 2026.

  • Tarik Skubal SP | DET

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Tough-luck loss Wednesday

Skubal (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on six hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out three.

The All-Star left-hander certainly wasn't deserving of the loss, but the Tigers were shut out Wednesday. Skubal had the Arizona bats off balance throughout the outing, inducing 10 groundouts while pouring in 60 of his 87 pitches for strikes, but Corbin Carroll managed to take Skubal deep for the game's only run in the first inning. Skubal has permitted a lone run on the campaign to go with a pristine 9:0 K:BB through 13 innings so far, and he'll look to keep dealing his next time out versus the Twins in Minnesota.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Stumbles vs. Houston

Crochet (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Astros, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits across five innings. He struck out seven.

It was a different story for Crochet on Wednesday, after the left-hander shut out the Reds in his first start of the season. After giving up two runs in the first inning, Crochet surrendered a two-run homer to Carlos Correa in the fifth in an eventual 6-4 Boston defeat. Crochet will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively lined up for next week at home against the Brewers.

  • Astros' Mike Burrows: Earns first win

Burrows (1-1) earned the win Wednesday over the Red Sox, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Burrows had to contend with traffic Wednesday, though he managed to hold Boston to a pair of runs en route to his first win with the Astros. It was a nice rebound effort overall from Burrows, after he gave up five runs on nine hits in his first start against the Angels. The right-hander is currently slated to face the Rockies at Coors Field his next time out.
