The Rangers placed Pederson (hand) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Pederson fractured his right hand when it was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 10-5 loss to the White Sox. The veteran slugger said after the game that he was given a six-week estimate for a return from the IL, so he could be out of action until around the All-Star break. Prospect Alejandro Osuna was called up from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move and could end up serving as Pederson's primary replacement in the lineup against right-handed pitching, either at designated hitter or in an outfield spot.

Hamilton entered the second game of Saturday's doubleheader as a pinch runner and stole a base in a 2-1 loss to Baltimore. He started the matinee contest and went 0-for-2.

Hamilton stole his ninth bag of the season and was in scoring position during an eighth-inning rally but was stranded there. He's tied for second on the team in steals, with three of his nine thefts coming as a pinch runner. Hamilton may provide hidden value even in a part-time role, but he's in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest, getting the call at shortstop for a resting Trevor Story.

Manzardo will start at first base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting Manzardo was initially scheduled to receive the day off, but he'll end up having to face southpaw Tarik Skubal after the Guardians made Carlos Santana (leg) a late scratch. Manzando has a surprising 1.139 OPS against southpaws this season, albeit in only 34 plate appearances.

Santana was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers due to left leg tightness, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

The Guardians are labeling Santana's removal from the starting nine as a precautionary measure, in part due to the quick turnaround from Saturday night's game and Sunday's early start time. Kyle Manzardo will step in at first base and bat fifth against Detroit ace Tarik Skubal.

Story is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Story will get a breather after he started both legs of Saturday's doubleheader, going hitless with two strikeouts over six at-bats. He's 14-for-111 (.126) with just two extra-base hits over the last 28 games. David Hamilton will spell Story at shortstop.

Sogard is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Sogard will get a breather after starting each of the last five games and going 6-for-17 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI. The 27-year-old has been seeing most of his action at first base since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester on May 10, but he could get occasional starts at third base while Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is on the shelf.

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Schneemann was included in the lineup the last time the Guardians faced a southpaw starter (Andrew Abbott) back on May 18, but the 28-year-old will retreat to the bench in Detroit while Tarik Skubal takes the hill. With Lane Thomas' recent return from the injured list giving Cleveland an extra right-handed bat in the outfield, utility player Angel Martinez could end up serving as a platoon partner for Schneemann at second base.

Carter (quadriceps) is running and hitting and should begin a rehab assignment this week, MLB.com reports.

Carter is rehabbing from a Grade 2 quad strain that initially sounded like it would require a significant stay on the IL, but this news suggests a possible return by early June. Sam Haggerty has been covering center field while Carter has been unavailable.

Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

With opening pitch for Sunday's game at 11:35 a.m. EDT and ace lefty Tarik Skubal on the hill for the Tigers, Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt likely decided that it was an ideal time to give the left-handed-hitting Kwan his first day off this season. Nolan Jones will cover Kwan's usual spot in left field, while Angel Martinez serves as the Guardians' table setter.

Seager (hamstring) faced live pitching Saturday and is expected to be activated off the 10-day injured list during a homestand that begins Monday, MLB.com reports.

The homestand runs from Monday to the following Sunday, so that's still a fairly wide window. With injuries piling up for the Rangers -- Joc Pederson (hand) just joined Evan Carter (quadriceps) on the IL -- Seager's bat is needed in the lineup sooner rather than later.
