  • Taylor Ward DH | SEA

Angels' Taylor Ward: Absent from lineup

Ward is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore.

Ward will get a rare night off Friday, missing out on the starting nine for the first time since April 30. The left-fielder hasn't had a multi-hit game since May 22 and is batting 9-for-63 with four homers and a 32 percent K rate over 18 games during that stretch. LaMonte Wade, Jo Adell and Jorge Soler will fill the outfield from left to right.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Back in lineup Friday

Wilson (hamstring) is in the Athletics' starting lineup Friday and is batting second against the Royals.

Wilson missed the final two games of the Athletics' series against the Angels earlier this week and had the off day Thursday, so he's back in action after getting three days of rest due to a tight hamstring. Wilson is slashing .366/.402/.520 with eight home runs, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored and five stolen bases across 272 plate appearances this season.

  • Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Undergoing surgery, likely OFS

Hoglund (hip) is undergoing surgery Friday and is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season, Hoglund's agent announced.

Hoglund was placed on the 15-day injured list June 2 due to a left hip impingement, and the injury will require surgery. The procedure is expected to end his 2025 season, but the expectation is that he'll make a full recovery for the 2026 campaign. In six starts with the A's this season, Hoglund logged a 6.40 ERA and a 23:11 K:BB across 32.1 innings. His long-term absence should mean more starting opportunities for Mitch Spence or Jacob Lopez.

  • Roman Anthony LF | BOS

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Starts against southpaw

Anthony is in the lineup for Friday's game against left-hander Ryan Yarbrough and the Yankees, batting fifth and playing right field, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Anthony was pulled for a pinch hitter against lefty Ian Seymour in his major-league debut Monday, raising fears that he could be stuck in a platoon role. For now, that doesn't seem to be the case, as he's in the lineup for his first opportunity to start against a southpaw since his promotion. The Red Sox are set to face two more lefties (Carlos Rodon and Max Fried) over the weekend.

  • Jarren Duran LF | BOS

Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Receiving rare day off

Duran is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.

Duran will step out of the lineup Friday after a run of 54 consecutive starts. He'll put a pause on his nine-game hit streak, during which he's batting .316 (12-for-38) with five doubles, a triple and a homer. Rob Refsnyder will take over in left field and bat leadoff for Boston.

  • Shaun Anderson RP | LAA

Angels' Shaun Anderson: DFA'd by Halos

The Angels designated Anderson for assignment Friday.

Anderson will lose his spot on the 40-man roster as part of a slew of roster moves Friday. The 30-year-old allowed nine runs on 16 hits in 10.2 innings with the Angels this season while logging a 5.74 ERA in 42.1 innings at Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Sam Bachman RP | LAA

    Angels' Sam Bachman: Officially recalled

The Angels recalled Bachman from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

As expected, Bachman will join the 26-man roster in place of Shaun Anderson, who was designated for assignment. Bachman hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2023, and he's logged a 0.79 ERA with an 11:9 K:BB across 11.1 innings this season with Salt Lake City.

  • Angels' Christian Moore: Officially called up

The Angels selected Moore's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

Moore, the Angels' first-round pick in 2024, will make his MLB debut Friday, batting ninth and playing second base. The 22-year-old slashed .350/.424/.575 at Salt Lake City in 92 plate appearances and will get an opportunity to seize an everyday role at the keystone with the Halos.

  • Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Idle against lefty

Mayer is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Mayer will dodge a same-handed matchup against Ryan Yarbrough on Friday, as Abraham Toro fills in at third base and Romy Gonzalez plays first base. Mayer has been on the bench for each of Boston's last four games against lefties.

  • Shaun Anderson RP | LAA

Angels' Shaun Anderson: Departing big-league roster

Anderson is expected to be removed from the active roster Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

He'll yield his spot on the 26-man roster to Sam Bachman. In six appearances with the Halos, Anderson logged a 7.59 ERA with a 10:3 K:BB over 10.2 innings.
