Yankees' Fernando Cruz: Dealing with severe oblique strain

Manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Cruz (oblique) has a "high grade" strain, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

"Obviously, that will be some time," Boone added. Cruz was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday after he was injured in the weight room Sunday. Cruz is likely looking at an extended absence. The 35-year-old holds a 3.00 ERA and impressive 54:14 K:BB across 33 innings of relief this season.

Manager John Schneider said after Monday's 5-4 win over the Yankees that Bichette (knee) is day-to-day and isn't expected to undergo any additional testing, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Bichette stepped on a baseball in pregame warmups and was scratched from the lineup after initially being penciled in as the Blue Jays' leadoff hitter for Monday's contest. Ernie Clement moved over to shortstop and hit leadoff in his absence. Bichette should have a chance to play Tuesday.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Expected to play Tuesday

Manager John Schneider said after Monday's 5-4 win over the Yankees that Springer (undisclosed) is expected to be fine for Tuesday's game against New York, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Springer was injured on a slide into third base in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday and was promptly removed from the game in the top of the seventh, but it sounds like it was more for precautionary reasons. Springer has avoided a serious injury and isn't expected to require any further testing. The veteran outfielder is slashing .263/.360/.459 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI, 42 runs scored and nine stolen bases across 305 plate appearances this season.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Goes five frames in no-decision

Rodon did not factor into the decision in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings with four strikeouts.

The New York southpaw did not have his sharpest stuff in this 96-pitch outing, as he generated only seven whiffs. Rodon equaled his season low with just four four Ks, previously set June 8 at Boston. Despite his struggles, the 32-year-old managed to hold the Toronto lineup relatively in check, yielding three singles and two doubles. Rodon will carry a 2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 123:37 K:BB across 106.2 total innings into his next start, which currently lines up to be at the Mets this weekend.

Scherzer conceded both runs on a two-run blast to Jazz Chisholm in the fourth but otherwise looked sharp. Across 13 total frames, the 40-year-old sports a 4.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB. He is currently slated to make his next start at home against the Angels this weekend.

The Toronto closer wrapped the month with an impressive 1.80 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB across 10 frames after entering June with a dreadful 6.04 ERA in 25.1 innings. • Blue Jays' George Springer: Exits with apparent injury

Springer (undisclosed) was removed from Monday night's game against the Yankees with an apparent injury, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Springer was thrown out at third base on an RBI single from Vladimir Guerrero in the bottom of the sixth inning. On the play, Springer appeared to slide hard into Jazz Chisholm. Springer was replaced in the top of the seventh, as Andres Gimenez entered at second base, with Davis Schneider moving to left field and Nathan Lukes taking over for Springer in right. Prior to leaving, Springer was 0-for-2 at the plate with one walk. Springer should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • Orioles' Chadwick Tromp: Leaves with back tightness

Tromp exited Monday night's game against the Blue Jays with lower back tightness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Gary Sanchez moved from designated hitter to catcher in the bottom of the third inning, and starting pitcher Trevor Rogers entered the lineup in the nine spot. Prior to leaving, Tromp went 0-for-1 at the plate. With both Adley Rutschman (oblique) and Maverick Handley (concussion) on the injured list, Sanchez looks likely to handle catching duties for Baltimore in the immediate future.

  • Trent Grisham CF | NYY

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Dealing with hamstring injury

Grisham (hamstring) exited Monday's contest against Toronto due to left hamstring tightness, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Grisham likely suffered the injury while on base in the fourth inning after he led off the frame with a single. The outfielder can be considered day-to-day for the time being until the Yankees release any further information on his status. In the meantime, Jasson Dominguez took over in center field Monday, and he'd stand to fill that role in Grisham's place moving forward if Grisham is sidelined for any additional action.
