  • Leonardo Rivas 2B | SEA

    Mariners' Leo Rivas: Resting Tuesday

Rivas isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Rivas will receive a day to rest Tuesday after going 2-for-11 with an RBI and a run scored over his last five games. Jorge Polanco will cover second base in Rivas' absence while Mitch Garver serves as the DH.

  • Drew Sommers RP | DET

    Tigers' Drew Sommers: Bolstering bullpen

The Tigers recalled Sommers from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Bailey Horn was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, so Sommers will fill in for him. Sommers made his MLB debut Aug. 22 in his last stint with the Tigers that concluded Sept. 2. He saw just three innings of work and gave up six earned runs in that span.

  • Bailey Horn RP | DET

Tigers' Bailey Horn: Placed on paternity list

The Tigers placed Horn on the paternity list Tuesday.

Horn will be allowed to miss up to three games while he welcomes a new addition to his family. Drew Sommers was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to fill the opening in Detroit's bullpen.

  • Zach McKinstry 3B | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Battling back stiffness

McKinstry was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Yankees due to upper-back stiffness.

McKinstry lost what had been a six-game hitting streak during Sunday's contest, and his back will now force him to the bench for Tuesday's series opener. While he recovers, Trey Sweeney will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Making return from IL

The Royals reinstated India (wrist) from the 10-day injured list, and he's batting seventh as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Guardians.

India hasn't seen the field since late August due to a wrist sprain, but he's back with the Royals for the second game of the series in Cleveland. It's been a disappointing campaign for the 29-year-old with a career-worst .666 OPS through 124 games, and he batted just .195 across 24 contests in August.

  • Royals' Michael Wacha: Placed on concussion IL

The Royals placed Wacha on the 7-day injured list Tuesday after he was diagnosed with a concussion, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Wacha was involved in a minor off-the-field accident and is headed back to Kansas City to be evaluated further. He had been scheduled to start Wednesday in Cleveland, but that will no longer happen. Wacha will be eligible to return as soon as Sept. 16 versus the Mariners, but it's unclear at this point whether he will be ready by that date. The Royals have not announced a replacement for Wacha in the rotation.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Witt (back) will start at shortstop and bat second in Tuesday's game versus the Guardians.

Witt missed the previous three contests with back spasms, but he's feeling well enough to return to action for the second game of a four-game set in Cleveland. The Royals went 1-2 in the three games Witt missed.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Another start at first base

Palacios is starting at first base and batting seventh in Tuesday's game versus the White Sox.

Palacios made his first professional start at first base Saturday against the Guardians, and he's back at the position Tuesday. It's his third straight start overall against right-handed pitching. The 28-year-old has missed most of this season with myriad injuries, but he could see regular reps versus righties down the stretch.

  • Rays' Carson Williams: Out again versus righty

Williams is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

Williams started the Rays' last game Sunday versus a lefty and hit a homer, but this marks the second straight time he's been out of the lineup against a right-hander. It's unlikely Williams will fall into the short side of a platoon, but it will be the left-handed-hitting Tristan Gray handling shortstop again Tuesday.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Getting second opinion on elbow

Arrighetti will receive a second opinion on his injured right elbow this week, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Arrighetti told reporters last week that his UCL was intact and he would not require surgery. That's presumably still the case, but more should be known about his course of treatment after he receives a second opinion. Arrighetti has been out for all of September and is not expected back before the end of the regular season.
