  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | TOR

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Pops 15th home run

Sosa went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Sunday against the Royals.

Sosa went deep in his first at-bat of the game to tally his 15th home run of the season. That continued his power tear in August, as Sosa now has six home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored across 15 games played. Sosa has recently flipped from playing second base to first base, but he should be in for regular at-bats down the stretch unless the White Sox decide to give Curtis Mead additional playing time.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Drives in two in MLB debut

Basallo went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's 12-0 win over the Astros. He also reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

Called up from Triple-A Norfolk earlier Sunday, Basallo entered the lineup at designated hitter and as the Orioles' No. 6 batter in his MLB debut. The 21-year-old broke through with his first hit in his final plate appearance of the day, singling with the bases loaded in top of the eighth inning to drive in the game's final two runs. Prior to the game, interim manager Tony Mansolino told Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun that the Orioles want to assess Basallo's abilities at catcher over the next six weeks, but Basallo is still viewed as the No. 2 option at the position behind Adley Rutschman. Per Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com, the Orioles plan to have Basallo make his first start at catcher in Monday's series opener in Boston, then use him at DH in Tuesday's series finale. Basallo could also pick up some starts at first base over the final few weeks of the season, though the Orioles may prioritize Coby Mayo and Ryan Mountcastle at that position.

  • Red Sox's Jhostynxon Garcia: Getting time at first base

Garcia started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and run scored for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Garcia was introduced to first base during pre-game work the last two weeks, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, and Sunday was his debut at the position. There were no fielding issues, and he made a nice pick on a double play. Garcia is hitting at the Triple-A level, sporting a .308 average with a .945 OPS, but there's currently no room for him in Boston's outfield. Expanding his defensive versatility introduces another path to the majors, particularly at first base where the Red Sox are getting by with Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez. Of course, the pending signing of Nathaniel Lowe, who was designated for assignment by the Nationals over the weekend, could scuttle the notion of promoting Garcia to the majors and helping out at first base.

  • Evan Carter CF | TEX

Rangers' Evan Carter: Homers in win

Carter went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 10-4 win over Toronto.

Carter put the finishing touch on the victory with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. It was his fifth in 59 games this season. Carter's hit safely in all four appearances since returning from the injured list last week, going 5-for-13 with three RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored.

  • Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Enters for injured teammate

Duran entered Sunday's game in the seventh inning after first baseman Jake Burger was removed with a wrist injury. Duran finished out the game at first base and went 0-for-1 with a walk in a 10-4 victory over the Blue Jays.

There's no shortage of players on the roster that can play first base, and Duran could be the choice against lefties should Burger miss any time. Against right-handers, manager Bruce Bochy has Josh Smith, Rowdy Tellez and Joc Pederson that hit from the left side of the plate.

  • Juan Brito 2B | CLE

Guardians' Juan Brito: Executing baseball activities

Brito (hamstring) is running, fielding and hitting following a significant left hamstring strain sustained in early July, MLB.com reports.

It's been six weeks since Brito landed on the injured list, and the estimated recovery time for strains like his is between eight and 12 weeks. That gives him a chance to return to action at some point in September. The hamstring and an earlier thumb injury put a damper on an important year of development for Brito, who has played 24 games at Triple-A Columbus and another seven in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

  • Khal Stephen SP | CLE

    Guardians' Khal Stephen: Resumes pitching

Stephen (shoulder) is expected to throw a two-inning live batting practice on Monday, MLB.com reports.

This will be the second live BP for Stephen, who threw one last Friday. The 22-year-old right-hander was traded from the Blue Jays to the Guardians in the Shane Bieber trade. Stephen had a breakout campaign in 2025, dominating Single-A and High-A hitters before reaching Double-A New Hampshire. It was there that he was hit by shoulder impingement after one start and landed on the 7-day injured list prior to being traded. Assuming he returns at some point in September, Stephen could get at least two starts in for Double-A Akron.

  • Guardians' Logan Allen: Fans six in no-decision

Allen did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to Atlanta. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings while striking out six.

Allen gave up one run through four innings before things fell apart in the fifth. He was charged with two unearned runs and failed to complete the frame after a pair of errors. He threw 107 pitches (65 strikes) in the ineffective outing and generated only 10 whiffs. Allen has struggled with his command recently, issuing 11 walks over his last 14.2 innings. On the bright side, he's given up two or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight outings while lowering his season ERA to 3.87 with a 98:51 K:BB through 123.1 innings. Allen is lined up for a road start against the Rangers next weekend.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Lifts 47th homer

Raleigh went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Mets in the Little League Classic.

Raleigh is now one homer shy of matching Salvador Perez's record for a catcher in a single season. Raleigh sent his 47th blast out to left field in the seventh inning, though that was the extent of the Mariners' comeback effort in this neutral-site game. He got his groove back against the Mets' pitching staff this weekend, going 7-for-12 with three walks and four extra-base hits during the three-game series. Raleigh is slashing .252/.359/.600 with 102 RBI, 82 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and 18 doubles across 122 games this season.

  • George Kirby SP | SEA

Mariners' George Kirby: Struggles in neutral-site game

Kirby (8-6) allowed seven runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Mets in Sunday's Little League Classic.

Kirby may not want to stop by Williamsport again any time soon, as he had arguably his worst start of the season in this contest. He walked a season-high three batters for the fourth time this year, and the seven runs allowed also represented his most in any outing in 2025. That was enough to end his four-start winning streak. Kirby is now at a 4.22 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 94:23 K:BB through 89.2 innings over 16 starts. The 23 walks represent his most in any year of his four-year career, which is concerning given he's seen his lightest workload this season due to injuries. Kirby will try to right the ship in a home matchup versus the Athletics for his next start.
