  • Coby Mayo 3B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: Taking seat Monday

Mayo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Mayo will give way to Ryan Mountcastle at first base in the series opener in Boston, after Mayo had started in each of the Orioles' previous six contests. After a productive stretch at the plate coming out of the All-Star break, Mayo has taken a step back offensively to begin August; he's slashing just .160/.222/.320 with four extra-base hits through 15 games this month. With top prospect Samuel Basallo getting called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and likely to see a near-everyday role while bouncing between designated hitter, catcher and first base, Mayo may need to pick up the pace to hold off both Basallo and Mountcastle for at-bats.

  • Rangers' Alejandro Osuna: Back up with big club

The Rangers recalled Osuna from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

He'll join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Jake Burger (wrist), who was placed on the injured list. Osuna has slashed only .158/.290/.211 in 34 contests for the Rangers this season. With Adolis Garcia (ankle) and Sam Haggerty (ankle) on the shelf, Osuna could see some action in the outfield on days that super-utility player Josh Smith is used in the infield.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Receiving Monday off

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

After starting behind the dish in each of the Orioles' last three contests, Rutschman will get a breather as Baltimore opens its two-game set in Boston. Top prospect Samuel Basallo will receive his first career start behind the plate Monday, after he made his MLB debut as a designated hitter during Sunday's 12-0 win over the Astros.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Lands on IL with sprained wrist

The Rangers placed Burger on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left wrist sprain, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Burger exited Sunday's game against the Royals due to wrist discomfort, and a follow-up MRI revealed a sprain. The severity of the sprain isn't known, so it's unclear how much time Burger might miss. Rowdy Tellez should continue to see the bulk of the starts at first base against right-handed pitching, with Ezequiel Duran stepping in versus southpaws.

  • Cole Ragans RP | KC

Royals' Cole Ragans: Ramps up bullpen work

Ragans (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Ragans has been steadily building up his pitch count in bullpen sessions and had more velocity on his fastballs and more offspeed pitches on display Monday. The 27-year-old southpaw continues to recover from a left rotator cuff strain that initially landed him on the 15-day injured list in mid-June before he was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 8. Ragans' next step in his throwing program would be throwing to live hitters, and if all goes well, he would be cleared to embark on a rehab assignment, making an early September return to the majors a possibility.

  • Astros' Cristian Javier: Expected to be fine for next start

Javier (illness) is expected to be fine for his next scheduled start this weekend in Baltimore, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Javier had to depart Sunday's start versus the Orioles after three innings due to illness and then stayed behind in Houston rather than travel with the team to Detroit. However, Javier now appears recovered from the illness and is slated to rejoin the club at some point Monday. It's not yet clear which day Javier will start, but that should be revealed after he meets with manager Joe Espada.

  • Scott Blewett RP | STL

Orioles' Scott Blewett: Cleared to start throwing

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Aug. 6 that Blewett (elbow) has resumed playing catch, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Blewett was placed on the 15-day injured list July 13 due to right elbow discomfort and was set to receive a second opinion on his injury later that month before a decision on his treatment plan was made. Evidently, Blewett received favorable news from doctors, as he wasn't recommended to stop throwing for an extended period. That said, Blewett had yet to resume throwing off a mound since Mansolino provided the latest update on his status, so the righty reliever's return from the IL wouldn't appear to be imminent.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Eyeing September return

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Aug. 6 that Mateo (hamstring) has resumed running and appears on track to return from the 60-day injured list in early September, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Mateo was initially placed on the IL on June 10 due to left elbow inflammation, but he sustained a left hamstring strain a few weeks later during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk that has significantly delayed his return to the active roster. The utility player has begun to make some strides in his recovery and is "starting to get up to some higher speeds on the ground," according to Mansolino, but a more definitive timeline for Mateo's return from the IL likely won't become available until he's cleared to resume playing in minor-league games.

  • Jorge Polanco DH | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Taking seat against lefty

Polanco is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

The switch-hitting Polanco will be withheld from the lineup for the Mariners' second consecutive matchup with a lefty starter (Ranger Suarez). Mitch Garver will serve as Seattle's designated hitter in place of Polanco, who has produced a .279 wOBA over his 71 plate appearances versus southpaws in 2025.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Royals' Mark Canha: DFA'd by Kansas City

The Royals activated Canha (elbow) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment.

Canha had played nine rehab games after being placed on the shelf July 8 due to left elbow epicondylitis, and though he's now back to full health, the Royals have decided that they don't have a spot for him on their active roster. The 36-year-old is likely to go unclaimed off waivers before electing free agency. Canha slashed just .212/.272/.265 in 46 contests before landing on the IL.
