  • Max Schuemann RF | NYY

Athletics' Max Schuemann: Sent to Triple-A

The A's optioned Schuemann to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Schuemann made the Opening Day roster, and he's bounced around the infield as needed while making the occasional start in the outfield. However, with Jacob Wilson (forearm) back from the injured list, the Athletics are no longer in need of Schuemann's services. The 28-year-old has slashed .200/.303/.288 with a 20:33 BB:K in 188 plate appearances this season.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

    Angels' Zach Neto: Returning Friday

Neto (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting in the leadoff spot against the Cubs on Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Neto was removed from Wednesday's game against the Reds after being hit by a pitch on the left hand. X-rays didn't reveal any structural damage, and the 24-year-old shortstop has been given the green light to play in Friday's series opener. Neto has gone 12-for-40 (.300) with one steal, five runs, four homers and nine RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Red Sox's Walker Buehler: Officially moved to bullpen

Red Sox manager Alex Cora relayed Friday that Buehler will be moved from the rotation to the bullpen, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Buehler has struggled in his first season in Boston, posting a 7-7 record across 22 starts with a 5.40 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 82:54 K:BB across 110 innings. The veteran right-hander will likely be used in long relief out of the bullpen and will help fortify the depth with Justin Slaten (shoulder), Luis Guerrero (elbow), Josh Winckowski (elbow) and Liam Hendriks (hip) all on the 60-day injured list. Buehler was originally slated to start against the Orioles on Monday, but Cora has yet to name a starter in Buehler's stead. Per Cotillo, Richard Fitts and Kyle Harrison are the leading candidates to fill in as Monday's starter.

  • Ben Bowden RP | ATH

Athletics' Ben Bowden: Moved to injured list

The Athletics placed Bowden on the 15-day injured list Friday with a strained left lat.

Bowden appeared in 11 games after being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 23. The 30-year-old will require a stint on the injured list with a lat strain, opening up a spot in the bullpen for Eduarniel Nunez. Bowden has a 4.22 ERA in 10.2 innings with the A's.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Orioles' Gary Sanchez: Moves to 60-day IL

The Orioles transferred Sanchez (knee) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The veteran catcher was ruled out 8-to-10 weeks after being diagnosed with a right knee sprain in early July, so it's not a surprise he eventually made his way to the 60-day IL. Sanchez will be eligible to be reinstated in early September, though it's unclear if he's expected to be available at that point.

  • Jack Perkins RP | ATH

Athletics' Jack Perkins: Placed on IL

The Athletics placed Perkins on the 15-day injured list Friday with a strained right shoulder.

Perkins appears to have picked up the injury during Thursday's start against Minnesota, when he yielded two runs over five innings en route to his third win of the campaign. The 25-year-old has a 4.19 ERA in 38.2 innings with the A's this season. Joey Estes was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Perkins' spot on the roster and presumably in the rotation.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Absent from Friday's lineup

Semien (foot) is not in the Rangers' starting lineup against the Guardians on Friday.

Semien fouled a ball off his left foot during Thursday's game against the Royals and was diagnosed with a foot contusion. Per Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com, Semien is in jeopardy of missing the entire weekend series, so his absence from Friday's lineup isn't surprising. Ezequiel Duran will draw the start at the keystone and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Called up by A's

The Athletics recalled Nunez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Nunez will rejoin the A's active roster for the first time since being optioned Aug. 6. The 26-year-old will fill Ben Bowden's (lat) spot in the bullpen. A trade deadline acquisition from San Diego, Nunez has allowed two runs with a 10:2 K:BB in five innings with Las Vegas.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Could be available off bench

Guerrero (hamstring) participated in pre-game warmups ahead of Friday's contest against the Marlins and could be available off the bench, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Guerrero has been out of the Blue Jays' lineup since leaving Monday's game against the Pirates due to left hamstring tightness. The good news is that he was cleared to participate in pre-game activities Friday, sprinting on the field before hitting in the batting cage. Guerrero should still be considered day-to-day, but there's a chance he returns to the lineup at some point during Toronto's three-game road series in Miami. Ty France is starting at first base in Friday's series opener.

  • Joey Estes SP | ATH

Athletics' Joey Estes: Back in majors

The Athletics recalled Estes from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Estes hasn't pitched in an MLB game since April 6, spending nearly all of the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Las Vegas. The 23-year-old has posted a 5.51 ERA and 67:20 K:BB across 17 appearances (15 starts) spanning 80 innings with Las Vegas. Estes is likely to slot into the A's rotation, taking the place of Jack Perkins (shoulder), who landed on the 15-day injured list.
