Neto (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting in the leadoff spot against the Cubs on Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Neto was removed from Wednesday's game against the Reds after being hit by a pitch on the left hand. X-rays didn't reveal any structural damage, and the 24-year-old shortstop has been given the green light to play in Friday's series opener. Neto has gone 12-for-40 (.300) with one steal, five runs, four homers and nine RBI over his last 10 games.

The Athletics activated Wilson (forearm) from the 10-day injured list, and he will start at shortstop and bat fifth against the Mariners on Friday.

The 23-year-old will return to the majors after fully recovering from a fractured left forearm that landed him on the IL in late July. He appeared in four games for Triple-A Reno during his rehab assignment and went 3-for-14 with a solo homer and two additional runs scored. Max Schuemann was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The Brewers placed Ortiz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left hamstring strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Ortiz left Thursday's game against the Cubs after grabbing at his hamstring while running out a groundball, and further testing revealed he's dealing with a strain. Per McCalvy, it's a low-grade strain. The 26-year-old shortstop's spot on the 26-man roster will go to Jake Bauers (shoulder), who's being activated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Look for Andruw Monasterio and Brice Turang to handle most of the action at shortstop while Ortiz is idle.

Betts went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs Thursday in a 9-5 victory against the Rockies.

Betts got a turn in the leadoff slot with Shohei Ohtani (thigh) given a rest day. The outfielder-turned-shortstop set the table well in the series finale, reaching four times and scoring twice. Betts went through an 0-for-20 five-game stretch from late July to early August that brought his season batting average down to .231, but he's bounced back nicely since, slashing .351/.415/.491 with two homers, nine RBI, 14 runs and a 6:4 BB:K over his past 14 contests. Betts' .689 OPS on the campaign is still tracking toward his worst career mark by far, but he's at least surging at the right time as the Dodgers head into the stretch with a one-game lead over San Diego in the NL West.

Willits went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base for Single-A Fredericksburg on Thursday.

Seeing his first game action since being selected first overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, Willits looked more than ready for the challenge despite the fact that the 17-year-old is the youngest player in Fredericksburg history. Given his age, there's no reason to expect him to advance up the ladder quickly, but the fact that the Nationals felt he was ready for full-season ball is an excellent sign.

Wilson (forearm) is likely to be activated from the injured list in time for series in Seattle that begins Friday, MLB.com reports.

Wilson is hitting .214 (3-for-14) with a home run in four games during his rehab assignment. If he doesn't have a setback Thursday, there's a good chance he'll return to the A's lineup Friday.

Adames went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.

Adames went back-to-back with Rafael Devers in the sixth inning for the former's 20th homer of the campaign. Adames' production in August has been a far cry from his output during a prolific July, when he produced a 1.096 OPS across 24 outings. Across 70 at-bats to open this month, the shortstop is batting a paltry .129 with four big flies, six RBI and two stolen bases.

Lindor went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-3 loss to Washington.

Lindor's incredible run continued, as he ran his hitting streak up to nine games and logged multiple knocks for the sixth time during that period. The All-Star shortstop has four homers, four doubles and two stolen bases over these last nine outings, as well. Since the start of August, Lindor is batting a torrid .356 with five long balls, six doubles and 13 RBI covering 73 at-bats.

Ortiz has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury after exiting Thursday's win over the Cubs in the fifth inning, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Ortiz will presumably undergo further testing. His status for Friday's series opener against the Giants is uncertain. Andruw Monasterio filled in at shortstop in place of Ortiz on Thursday and would be the logical candidate to step in at the position if Ortiz needs to miss time.

Atlanta placed Williams on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique Thursday.

Williams hasn't appeared at the plate since Aug. 9 versus Miami. He's slashing .103/.156/.172 with two extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored, four stolen bases and a 1:9 BB:K across 32 plate appearances this season.
