Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Joining big-league club
The Tigers recalled Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Javier Baez (back/hip) is headed to the injured list, creating a need for infield depth. Kreidler could find himself on the short side of a platoon with Trey Sweeney at shortstop for the Tigers. Kreidler slashed .136/.208/.205 in 48 plate appearances with Detroit earlier this season.

Javier Baez SS | DET
Tigers' Javier Baez: Moved to injured list
The Tigers placed Baez on the 10-day injured list due to lumbar spine and hip inflammation Friday.
The veteran shortstop battled right hip discomfort earlier in August and he'll now require a stint on the IL with hip and lumbar spine swelling. Baez spent nearly a month on the injured list from June 11 to July 8 due to lumbar spine inflammation as well. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined this time. Ryan Kreidler was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, but Trey Sweeney should see the majority of the action at shortstop in Baez's absence.

Luis Vazquez SS | BAL
Cubs' Luis Vazquez: Officially called up
The Cubs recalled Vazquez from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Ryan Herrera of AllCHGO.com reports.
Vazquez will relace David Bote -- who was designated for assignment -- on the Cubs' 26-man roster. The 24-year-old Vazquez appeared in a pair of big-league games at the end of May before returning to Iowa, slashing .263/.327/.484 across 105 plate appearances since. The infielder could mix in at second base, third base or shortstop as needed.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Rehab assignment could come soon
Story (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment in September, but the Red Sox haven't determined an exact date for it yet, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
The shortstop has taken live batting practice and gone through other baseball activities over the past few weeks as he tries to make it back before the end of the season from mid-April surgery on a fractured left shoulder. Given the length of his absence, Story would figure to require a significant number of rehab at-bats, but the calendar is working against him.

Leonardo Jimenez SS | MIA
Blue Jays' Leo Jimenez: Taking seat Friday
Jimenez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Jimenez started the past three contests after missing a couple games due to a knee issue, and he's gone 3-for-11 with a double, a homer and three RBI since recovering from the injury. Ernie Clement will shift to shortstop Friday while Addison Barger starts at the hot corner.

Luis Vazquez SS | BAL
Cubs' Luis Vazquez: Promotion incoming
The Cubs are expected to recall Vazquez from Triple-A Iowa, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.
Vazquez, 24, was up briefly with the Cubs earlier this season, striking out in his lone plate appearance. He's slashed .263/.347/.432 with eight homers at Iowa this season and boasts a 1.095 OPS in seven games this month after returning from an undisclosed injury. Vazquez is primarily a shortstop but also has played second and third base. It's not clear whose roster spot he will be taking.

Anthony Volpe SS | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Reaches three times, swipes bag
Volpe went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run and a stolen base against Cleveland in Thursday's 6-0 victory.
Volpe went through an ugly 2-for-34, 14-strikeout stretch at the plate from Aug. 7 to Aug. 16, but he's since bounced back with a five-game hitting streak. During the streak, he's gone 6-for-18 and has belted a double in each of his past three contests. Volpe also has three thefts in his past three games and is up to 23 stolen bases on the season, one shy of his total as a rookie last year.

Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN
Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Might be added to roster
Kreidler has joined the Tigers in Chicago for their series versus the Cubs and could be added to the roster if Javier Baez needs to go on the 10-day injured list, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Baez is undergoing tests for an undisclosed injury and the club has summoned Kreidler as insurance. The 26-year-old could get some reps at shortstop versus lefties if Baez needs to miss time, but Trey Sweeney would be in line for the bulk of the starts at the position.

Javier Baez SS | DET
Tigers' Javier Baez: Could need stint on IL
Baez is undergoing tests for an undisclosed injury and could require a trip to the 10-day injured list, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Baez dealt with a hip issue recently, although it's not clear whether that's what's bothering him now. Ryan Kreidler has joined the Tigers in Chicago for their series against the Cubs and will be added to the roster if Baez gets shut down. The veteran has been sharing the shortstop job with Trey Sweeney lately and hasn't made consecutive starts since Aug. 9-10.
