Sears (3-3) notched the win Saturday against Miami, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Pitching behind Randy Vasquez as a bulk reliever, Sears thrived while scattering one single across 3.1 scoreless frames. Saturday disrupted a string of five consecutive starts for the 30-year-old left-hander, whose role with the Padres appears uncertain going forward. Sears, who sports a 3.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 28 innings for San Diego since being recalled from Triple-A El Paso, could maintain some streaming appeal in fantasy leagues if he takes his next scheduled turn in the rotation against the Giants.

Mize didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Royals, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

The right-hander left the mound with Detroit nursing a 2-1 lead, but his bullpen couldn't get the job done. The quality start was still Mize's eighth of the season and third in his last five outings, a stretch in which he's produced a 2.20 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 27:5 K:BB over 28.2 innings. If the Tigers do decide to sell at the trade deadline, Mize could be in high demand as a rental, as he becomes a free agent this coming offseason. If he doesn't get shipped out before then, his next start is set to come on the road next weekend against the A's.

The Twins scratched Paredes from his start Saturday against the Athletics for unspecified reasons.

Kendry Rojas will instead make the late-notice start for Minnesota. The Twins have yet to announce why Paredes was scratched, but it's presumably related to an injury

Wacha didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out three.

The veteran right-hander tossed 96 pitches (66 strikes) en route to his 14th quality start of the season, but Wacha left the mound with the score tied 2-2 and missed out on his sixth win. Wacha has worked at least six frames in seven of his last eight outings dating back to June 11, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB over 51.1 innings during that stretch. He'll look for his first win since June 22 in his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Colorado.

Ryan has been scratched from Sunday's start against the Athletics due to right arm fatigue, Audra Martin of FanDuel Sports Network North reports.

Twins manager Derek Shelton relayed that the Twins expect Ryan to return at some point during the upcoming series against the Royals that begins Tuesday, but a date for the right-hander has not been confirmed. He's coming off a dreadful performance against the Guardians this past Monday, when he allowed eight runs on 10 hits (including a career-worst six home runs) while striking out three across four innings in a loss. A replacement for Ryan on Sunday has yet to be announced.

The Astros placed Arrighetti on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right foot nerve irritation, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.

The injury surfaced during Arrighetti's start against the White Sox on Friday, which forced him to leave after allowing three runs on two hits and two walks while hitting two batters in one inning. He'll be sidelined until at least mid-August, but his recovery timeline should become more clear once he's cleared to resume baseball activities. Bryan King was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.

Suarez (groin/illness) will be activated from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Originally scheduled to start Tuesday's game against Baltimore before falling ill, Suarez now seems to be fully healthy and ready to rejoin Boston's rotation after landing on the injured list due to a groin strain in early July. His first start back will come against a Toronto lineup that's been ice cold of late, posting just a .603 OPS across 18 games since the beginning of the month.

The Giants are expected to recall Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento to start Sunday's home game against the Angels, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With Trevor McDonald (elbow) recently landing on the injured list, the Giants will turn to Whisenhunt to fill the fifth spot in their rotation. The 25-year-old southpaw has given up four runs in 10.2 innings across his first two MLB starts this season, and he'll draw a favorable matchup on paper Sunday against an Angels lineup that's logged just a .656 OPS since the beginning of July.

The Phillies optioned McFarlane to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

McFarlane made just one appearance with the Phillies after being promoted Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning against the Dodgers. He'll now head back to the minors to help make room on Philadelphia's pitching staff for Brian Keller, who is set to work as a bulk reliever Saturday.

The Rays reinstated Matz (ankle) from the injured list Saturday.

A sprained left ankle has kept Matz on the shelf since June 25, but he's now been cleared to return after giving up three runs in six innings across five rehab appearances at Triple-A Durham. He'll reclaim a long-relief role in Tampa Bay's bullpen and push Chris Roycroft back down to the minors.
