  • Tigers' Michael Lorenzen: Takes tough-luck loss Tuesday

Lorenzen (2-5) allowed one run on six hits across six innings and took the loss Tuesday against the Royals. He walked three and struck out seven.

Lorenzen pitched well and logged his sixth quality start of the season, but the Tigers provided zero run support in the 1-0 loss. That's been a theme all year, as Detroit is 29th in the majors in runs scored. That's made wins hard to come by for Lorenzen, and he's still in search of his first victory since May 16. This was his second loss of the year in which he allowed only a single run. The righty will look for more run support and a chance at his third win in his next outing, which is slated to come this weekend against the Twins.

  • Eury Perez SP | MIA

Marlins' Eury Perez: Fans nine over six scoreless

Perez didn't factor in the decision in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Blue Jays after he allowed three hits and no walks across six scoreless innings. He struck out nine.

The 20-year-old threw 59 of 80 pitches for strikes and generated 19 whiffs as he set a career high in strikeouts, though he was unable to grab his fifth win since the Marlins failed to score. Perez has surrendered just one run over his past five starts and has a 29:8 K:BB in 27 frames during that stretch. The righty has already thrown 72 innings between Triple-A and the majors this season after topping out at 77 and 78 frames the past two years, which makes his spot in the rotation tenuous despite his dominant form since the club is likely monitoring his workload.

  • Yusei Kikuchi SP | LAA

Blue Jays' Yusei Kikuchi: Fires six shutout frames

Kikuchi didn't factor in the decision Tuesday in Miami after he allowed just two hits across six scoreless innings. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.

The left-hander surrendered only a pair of singles but missed out on a victory since Toronto wasn't able to break a scoreless tie until the eighth inning. The dominant outing ends a streak of seven straight starts in which Kikuchi failed to pitch beyond the fifth frame. He had a 5.40 ERA and gave up 11 home runs during that stretch. The 32-year-old tentatively lines up to next take the mound this weekend versus Oakland, which is a favorable matchup to build on Tuesday's performance.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Whiffs five in rehab start

Rodon (back/forearm) allowed a run on a hit and a walk over three innings in a rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. He struck out five.

Rodon threw 42 pitches over the three frames, and 27 of them landed for strikes. It was the first competitive start for the left-hander since spring training, and while the results don't matter as much as the health, it's a reminder of his ability to miss bats when healthy. Rodon told reporters after the game that he's likely to pitch again Sunday, and that he felt strong and settled in as the start went on, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. He'll likely need to make at least two more rehab starts before having a chance to join the Yankees' rotation in the early part of July.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Making rehab start Sunday

Urias (hamstring) will make a rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Manager Dave Roberts confirmed last week that Urias would need a rehab assignment before returning to the Dodgers' rotation, and it appears the left-hander is less than a week away from kicking that off. Assuming Urias makes an additional start in the minors, he should be ready to return in early July.

  • Dodgers' Michael Grove: Likely to start Wednesday

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters before Tuesday's tilt that it would "make sense" for Grove to start Wednesday's game versus the Angels, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Grove is on the taxi squad, and it would be an upset if anyone but the right-hander was on the bump for the Dodgers to begin Wednesday's tilt against their crosstown rivals. The right-hander has struggled with an ugly 8.10 ERA over 30 innings with the Dodgers this year, and it'd be hard to justify him as a fantasy option even as a streamer for Wednesday's game against the Halos.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

White Sox's Lance Lynn: Expected back for next start

The White Sox list Lynn (personal) as their starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Lynn was placed on the bereavement list Monday and remains off the White Sox's 26-man active roster for the time being, but he's poised to be reinstated before his next turn through the rotation comes up this weekend. The veteran right-hander dropped to 4-8 on the season in his most recent start in Seattle this past weekend, but he still delivered what might have been one of the finer outings from any pitcher in 2023. He racked up a career-high 16 strikeouts in seven innings and induced an astounding 33 swinging strikes on his 114 pitches.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Padres' Seth Lugo: Officially activated from IL

The Padres reinstated Lugo (calf) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Giants.

Lugo didn't go on a rehab assignment for his calf injury, meaning Tuesday's start will be the first time he's pitched in over a month. The 33-year-old righty figures to be on a pitch count, although it's unclear what his limit will be. Nabil Crismatt was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Tanner Houck SP | BOS

Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Needs surgery for facial fracture

Houck will undergo surgery next week to repair his facial fracture, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

The procedure will involve the insertion of a plate in his right cheek, where he got struck by a comebacker last Friday against the Yankees. There is no exact timetable yet for his return to the Red Sox, but the 26-year-old is expected back at some point before the end of the regular season. He'd pitched to a 5.05 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 64:23 K:BB through 13 starts covering 67.2 innings.

  • White Sox's Touki Toussaint: Claimed by ChiSox

The White Sox claimed Toussaint off waivers from the Guardians on Tuesday.

After being DFA'd by Cleveland on Saturday, Toussaint will remain in the AL Central and provide depth to the White Sox's bullpen. Toussaint holds a 4.06 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in Triple-A this season and made his lone MLB appearance Friday, allowing two earned runs over 3.2 frames.
