Jarlin Susana SP | WAS
Nationals' Jarlin Susana: Diagnosed with lat strain
Susana has been diagnosed with a right lat strain, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Susana had to be removed from his last start at Double-A Harrisburg with the injury. He will meet with the Nationals' medical staff soon to discuss his options, but the injury will likely prevent Susana from pitching again this season. The 21-year-old has collected a 3.51 ERA and 95:34 K:BB over 56.1 innings covering 14 starts between High-A Wilmington and Harrisburg in 2025. Susana previously missed time this season due to a sprained elbow.

Josiah Gray SP | WAS
Nationals' Josiah Gray: To begin rehab assignment
Gray (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wilmington on Sunday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Gray is slated to throw two innings or 35 pitches during Sunday's outing, his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in July of 2024. Considering the lengthy layoff, Gray will require several rehab starts before being cleared to come off the injured list. Still, the 27-year-old has a chance to pitch for the Nationals before the 2025 season ends.

Paul Skenes SP | PIT
Pirates' Paul Skenes: Shuts down Dodgers in 10th win
Skenes (10-9) earned the win Thursday against the Dodgers, allowing two hits and one walk in six shutout innings. He struck out eight.
Skenes was at his best against a scary Dodgers lineup, tying a season low in hits allowed during his fifth scoreless start since the All-Star break. The All-Star right-hander continues to be one of the top pitchers in baseball, having now conceded two runs or fewer in 24 of his 29 appearances in 2025. Skenes is well on his way to notching his first career National League Cy Young Award, posting a 1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 195:39 K:BB across 173 innings. On tap for Skenes next week is a matchup with the last-place Orioles at Camden Yards.

Blake Snell SP | LAD
Dodgers' Blake Snell: Knocked around in fourth loss
Snell (3-4) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out six.
Snell established season worsts in both hits and runs allowed Thursday, and he walked multiple batters for the seventh time in eight starts this year. On a positive note, the veteran southpaw fanned at least five for the fifth time in his last six outings, and he's worked at least five frames in seven appearances in 2025. Snell has a 3.19 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 44:21 K:BB over 42.1 innings overall, and he's set to get a favorable home matchup against the last-place Rockies his next time out.

Ranger Suarez SP | PHI
Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Six shutout frames in 11th win
Suarez (11-6) picked up the win Thursday against the Brewers, allowing six hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out four.
Suarez has now given up one run or zero while throwing at least five innings in three straight starts. The left-hander has also logged a quality start in three of his last four outings, and he's worked at least five frames in eight consecutive appearances as well. Suarez boasts a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 128:32 K:BB over his 137 innings, and he's next in line for a stiff assignment against a Mets team with an .845 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of August.
-
Freddy Peralta SP | MIL
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Recent dominance continues
Peralta didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Phillies, allowing two hits and three walks in five scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
Peralta has been on an absolute tear on the mound, having now turned in five consecutive starts of at least five shutout innings. That hot stretch has amounted to a scoreless streak of 28 frames, and he's yielded a lone run across 33 innings since the beginning of August. The All-Star right-hander now sports a 2.50 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 176:61 K:BB through 158.2 frames overall, and he'll be aiming to extend his scoreless streak in a scheduled matchup against the Rangers next week.

Brandon Sproat SP | NYM
Mets' Brandon Sproat: Set to make MLB debut Sunday
The Mets will call up Sproat from Triple-A Syracuse to make his major-league debut Sunday with a start in Cincinnati, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
The youth movement in the Mets' rotation is in full effect, as Sproat will join fellow rookies Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong. Sproat got off to a poor start at Syracuse this season but has posted a 2.44 ERA and 70:21 K:BB over 59 innings covering his last 11 outings and struck out nine across seven shutout frames in his most recent start. The 24-year-old isn't necessarily guaranteed any starts beyond Sunday, but with Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea and Clay Holmes all struggling, Sproat will have an opportunity to stick around if he performs.

Brandon Sproat SP | NYM
Mets' Brandon Sproat: Team mulling call-up
Sproat is in "strong consideration" to receive a call-up from Triple-A Syracuse to make a start with the Mets, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Sproat has had an up-and-down season with Triple-A Syracuse and has been bypassed by Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong for promotions. However, he's collected a 2.44 ERA and 70:21 K:BB over 59 innings covering his last 11 outings and struck out nine across seven shutout frames in his most recent appearance Saturday. It's not clear exactly where Sproat might slot into the Mets rotation, but Kodai Senga's rotation spot is on thin ice, and Sean Manaea has also struggled lately.

Robby Snelling SP | MIA
Marlins' Robby Snelling: Nothing left to prove at Triple-A
Snelling allowed one run on seven hits over seven innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, striking out a career-high 13 without walking a batter.
The lack of a spot on the 40-man roster seems to be the only thing keeping Snelling from making his major-league debut in 2025. The 21-year-old southpaw has delivered seven straight quality starts at Triple-A, fanning double-digit batters three times during that stretch while producing a 1.24 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 62:9 K:BB through 43.2 innings. The Marlins have so far declined to promote Snelling despite having six starting pitchers on the IL at the moment, but despite the team's apparent desire to delay starting his service-time clock, he clearly has nothing left to learn in the International League.

Liam Doyle SP | STL
Cardinals' Liam Doyle: Set for pro debut Saturday
Doyle will make his professional debut Saturday with Single-A Palm Beach, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The fifth overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, Doyle has been working out with the Cardinals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate over the past month and will now throw around two innings Saturday in his first official game in the professional ranks. Palm Beach's season concludes Sunday, so it could be Doyle's lone appearance this season after he threw 95.2 innings for the University of Tennessee in the spring. Doyle could be assigned to High-A Peoria or Double-A Springfield at the start of next season.
