Edward Cabrera SP | MIA
Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Starts up throwing program
Cabrera (elbow) resumed a throwing program Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Cabrera looked to be in danger of missing the rest of the season after he was placed on the injured list Sept. 1 due to a right elbow sprain, but his ability to resume throwing a week later leaves the door open for him to pitch again in 2025. Because he hasn't been shelved for a prolonged period, Cabrera should have sufficient time to get stretched back out for a starting role, provided he experiences no hiccups during the buildup process. Prior to being shut down last week, Cabrera had submitted a 3.50 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB In 46.1 innings over his eight starts since the All-Star break.

Janson Junk SP | MIA
Marlins' Janson Junk: Activated ahead of Monday's start
The Marlins activated Junk (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.
Junk will start Monday's game against the Nationals after missing a couple weeks with right ulnar nerve irritation in his pitching elbow. The right-hander threw 61 pitches in his lone rehab outing with Triple-A Jacksonville last Tuesday, so he will likely be facing a bit of a limited workload Monday.

MacKenzie Gore SP | WAS
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Resumes mound work
Gore (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday and will throw off the mound again Tuesday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
Gore has progressed well since landing on the 15-day injured list Aug. 30 due to left shoulder inflammation. It's unclear whether the Nationals will ask the left-hander to make a rehab start prior to being activated, but Gore is tracking toward rejoining the big-league rotation at some point later this month.

Ryan Weathers SP | MIA
Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Set to return from IL on Thursday
The Marlins will activate Weathers (lat) from the 60-day injured list to start Thursday's game against the Nationals in Miami, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
After completing rehab starts with Triple-A Jacksonville on Aug. 30 and this past Thursday, Weathers returned to Miami on Monday and tossed a live bullpen session, per Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com. With Weathers' lat checking out fine following the throwing session, the Marlins have cleared him to slot back into the rotation for the series finale with Washington. Because Weathers has been on the shelf since June 9 due to the left lat strain and built up to 68 pitches in his most recent rehab start, he'll likely have a light workload restriction in place Thursday. Prior to landing on the IL, Weathers had made five starts this season for Miami, going 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 24.2 innings.

Logan Henderson SP | MIL
Brewers' Logan Henderson: Playing catch again
The Brewers announced Wednesday that Henderson (elbow) has resumed playing catch out to 90 feet, MLB.com reports.
After being placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 8 due to a right flexor tendon strain before being shifted to the 60-day IL a few weeks later, Henderson won't be eligible to return before the end of the regular season. However, the Brewers are leaving the door open for Henderson to be activated at some point during the postseason, though a return would be contingent on him avoiding any setbacks during the ramp-up process. Even if his throwing program proceeds smoothly, Henderson likely won't be able to get stretched out enough to handle a starting role in October, so the Brewers would presumably have him prepare for a multi-inning relief gig.

Tylor Megill SP | NYM
Mets' Tylor Megill: Endures rocky rehab start
Megill (elbow) allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three in two innings during his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse. He also hit two batters and threw a wild pitch.
After turning in a 21:6 K:BB and posting a 1.93 ERA over 14 innings in his first four rehab starts between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, Megill has regressed while making his last two minor-league appearances for the Triple-A club. Between those outings, Megill has allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and four walks across six innings. Though he's now tossed at least 65 pitches in each of his last four appearances in the minors and looks to be stretched out enough to handle a starting role, Megill's poor showings his last two times out have probably removed him from consideration for a spot in New York's rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. The Mets look content to proceed with rookies Jonah Tong and Brandon Sproat at the back end of the rotation, so Megill could be ticketed for a long-relief role with the big club once his rehab assignment ends.

Michael King SP | SD
Padres' Michael King: Lined up to start Tuesday
King is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Reds at Petco Park, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
He would also be lined up for a second start this week Sunday at home versus the Rockies. King has made only one start for the Padres since late May, having missed most of that time due to a shoulder issue and more recently a knee injury. The Padres are aiming for him to make four starts before the end of this month as he gets ramped up for the postseason. King made an unofficial five-inning start at the Padres' spring training complex in Arizona this past Thursday, so he could be capable of covering at least five frames versus the Reds.

Josiah Gray SP | WAS
Nationals' Josiah Gray: Completes first rehab start
Gray (elbow) struck out a batter and allowed no hits and two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start Sunday with High-A Wilmington. He also hit a batter.
Gray returned to the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace last July and handled a light workload, tossing 34 pitches (18 strikes) before departing. He'll likely continue to get stretched out over the course of two or three more rehab starts, though he likely doesn't have enough time left in the season to get built up to handle a typical starter's workload. Even so, Gray still looks to be a candidate to return from the Nationals' 60-day injured list by the end of September to serve as a reliever or as a piggyback starter.

Tanner Gordon SP | COL
Rockies' Tanner Gordon: Hit hard by Padres
Gordon (5-6) took the loss Sunday against San Diego, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk across 3.2 innings. He struck out five.
Gordon surrendered three home runs: one in the first inning to Manny Machado, one in the second inning to Jackson Merrill and one in the fourth inning to Gavin Sheets. The outing marked Gordon's first time allowing multiple homers in a start this season and snapped an excellent stretch of play. In four starts leading up to Sunday's appearance, Gordon posted a 2.74 ERA and a 19:6 K:BB across 23 innings. He went 3-0. The 27-year-old is slated for a rematch with the Padres next weekend but will have the benefit of pitching away from Coors Field.

Dylan Cease SP | SD
Padres' Dylan Cease: Victorious against COL
Cease (7-11) picked up the win Sunday against the Rockies, allowing one run on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out five.
Cease navigated Coors Field effectively, keeping the ball in the park and allowing just one extra-base hit -- a double to Orlando Arcia in the third inning. Sunday's outing snapped a streak of five consecutive outings allowing multiple runs. Cease hasn't pitched into the sixth inning in five straight appearances, and hasn't done so in eight of his last nine. Cease will carry a 4.71 ERA into his next projected start, which is scheduled to be a rematch with the Rockies next weekend.
