The Padres placed King on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation.

The right-hander was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to shoulder stiffness, and he'll miss at least two more turns through the rotation due to the injury. King will be eligible to be reinstated June 6, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to return to the big-league mound at that point. Thanks to King's injury, Stephen Kolek should be able to stick in San Diego's rotation a bit longer, even with Yu Darvish (elbow) nearing a return from the IL.

Sanchez allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Saturday.

Sanchez's streak of three straight quality starts came to an end. He was pulled from this one at 83 pitches (49 strikes) after an ineffective performance. Despite the shaky outing, Sanchez has given up more than three runs just once all year. He's pitched to a 3.17 ERA despite a 1.26 WHIP and 65:20 K:BB over 54 innings that would suggest he's been fortunate to strand some traffic on the basepaths. Sanchez's next outing is tentatively projected to be at home versus Atlanta, though he could be pushed back to a home start versus Milwaukee if Taijuan Walker gets another turn through the rotation.

Quantrill allowed a run on three hits and struck out two without walking a batter over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Saturday.

Quantrill threw just 46 pitches (31 strikes) before running into trouble in the fourth inning and getting the quick hook. There was no reported injury after the game, so this currently appears to be just a curious managerial decision. Quantrill has allowed just one run in three of his last four starts, but he hasn't logged more than five innings in any of those outings. He's now at a 6.09 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 31:15 K:BB across 44.1 innings over 10 starts this season. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Giants.

Gonsolin (2-1) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

Gonsolin allowed a constant stream of baserunners in the outing and didn't retire the side in order until his fifth and final frame. The right-hander wasn't hit all that hard, however -- only one of the knocks (a Juan Soto two-run double) against him went for extra bases. Gonsolin looked very good in beginning the campaign by allowing just five runs with a 21:4 K:BB over 16 innings across his first three starts, but he's scuffled since, yielding eight runs with a 7:8 K:BB across nine frames in his past two appearances. He'll look to get back on track in what's projected to be a tough home matchup against the Yankees next weekend.

Peterson (3-2) earned the victory over the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over 7.2 innings.

Peterson fell behind 2-0 in the second inning but didn't give up another run for the remainder of his outing. The southpaw completed a season-high 7.2 frames (in fact, this was the first time all year he's pitched more than six innings) and recorded his fourth straight quality start. Peterson's past two outings have been particularly impressive given the quality of opponent -- he's yielded just three earned runs over 13.2 frames versus the Yankees and Dodgers. The veteran hurler has been a key part of the Mets' rotation this year, posting a 2.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 54:22 K:BB through 58 innings. Peterson's next start is projected to be much less intimidating on paper than his past two, as he's lined up to face the Rockies at home next weekend.

Freeland (0-7) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing eight runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.2 innings.

Freeland put the Rockies on the back foot in the first inning after yielding a solo home run to Aaron Judge. Freeland kept the Yankees off the board over the next three frames but ran into trouble in the fifth, when he allowed seven of the first nine batters on base before being mercifully lifted for Angel Chivilli. Freeland has given up four earned runs or more in five outings this season and has gone 14 straight starts without a win, dating back to September 2024. He has a 5.86 ERA and 1.68 WHIP across 55.1 innings this season, both of which are the highest in the majors among qualified starters. Things won't get easier for Freeland, as he's slated to make his next start against the Mets on the road next weekend.

Abbott (4-0) earned the win against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Abbott allowed a solo homer in the third inning but otherwise kept the Cubs in check despite inducing just five whiffs on 83 pitches. The southpaw has now given up more than one earned run only once in eight starts this year and has completed at least five frames six times. He'll take a stellar 1.77 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 45:17 K:BB over 40.2 innings into a road rematch with the Cubs next weekend.

Rea (3-1) took the loss against the Reds on Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Rea surrendered a two-run homer in the first inning and then allowed four runs across his final two frames. It was a mixed outing, as he threw 70 of 108 pitches for strikes and recorded a season-high eight punchouts while also yielding his most walks and runs in a start this season. The 34-year-old will carry a 3.28 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 40:14 K:BB across 46.2 innings into a rematch with the Reds at home next weekend.

Holmes (3-3) earned the win against the Padres on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts over seven innings.

Holmes allowed a run in the third inning but was otherwise fantastic, tossing 65 of 94 pitches for strikes with 12 whiffs. The 29-year-old has now logged quality starts in four of five May outings, issuing just one walk three times in that span. He owns a 3.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 55:26 K:BB across 58.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Red Sox next weekend.

Irvin (4-1) picked up the win Saturday, scattering three hits and two walks over eight scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Giants. He struck out seven.

San Francisco got only one runner into scoring position all day against the right-hander, and Irvin promptly squashed the potential rally in the fourth inning by coaxing a double-play grounder out of Matt Chapman and striking out Willy Adames. Irvin tossed 64 of 96 pitches for strikes in his longest outing of the season, and the quality start was his third straight and his sixth of the year. He'll take a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB through 68.1 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Arizona.
