  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Hits DL with elbow inflammation

The Giants placed Cueto on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with right elbow inflammation, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.

Cueto (3-0) had been spectacular in five starts this season with a 0.84 ERA and 0.69 WHIP over 32 innings, recording 26 strikeouts and issuing only two walks. Elbow inflammation is a potentially scary initial diagnosis for the 32-year-old, who has been an anchor in the Giants' starting rotation in the absence of Madison Bumgarner (hand). Andrew Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start Tuesday night, while Cueto currently has no timetable for his return.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Next start likely coming against Padres

Wood is expected to start during the Dodgers' upcoming series against the Padres, which begins Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Wood last pitched Saturday, which would put him in line to start Thursday against the Diamondbacks on regular rest. However, manager Dave Roberts said that he will likely have Wood or Walker Buehler pitch on Friday, then have the other take the mound Saturday followed by Rich Hill (finger) on Sunday. More information regarding how the Dodgers will proceed with their rotation should be available in the near future.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Returning Sunday against Padres

Hill (finger) will start Sunday against the Padres, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

After suffering an infection in his finger and having his activation from the disabled list delayed, it seemed likely that Hill would miss at least one more turn through the rotation. However, the 38-year-old southpaw's condition seems to have improved, as he'll start Sunday's game against the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico. Hill has started three games this season, allowing 10 runs on 17 hits and seven walks over 15 innings.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Back feels fine

Matz says his back feels fine and doesn't expect any issues making his next start Saturday against the Rockies, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Matz had his Tuesday start pushed back to Saturday due to back soreness, but he doesn't appear likely to miss any more time. The 26-year-old has a 4.98 ERA through his first five starts, though his 3.82 xFIP suggests that he's been pitching fine. He's walking too many batters at 10.5 percent, but his 27.4 percent strikeout rate is an encouraging sign.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Sent back to minors

Woodruff was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Woodruff was likely headed back to the minors in the coming days anyway as the Brewers will need to clear a roster spot for Wednesday's starter, Wade Miley. Seeing as he wouldn't have been available for Tuesday's game after tossing 1.1 innings Monday, the team decided to swap Woodruff out for an extra bench bat in Brett Phillips. Woodruff will rejoin the rotation at Colorado Springs, where he owns a 1.65 ERA across three starts (16.1 innings), until he's needed back at the big-league level.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Next start coming Wednesday

Anderson (chest) will start Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Anderson will take the hill on his normal four days' rest despite having exited his previous start Friday against the Marlins in the second inning after experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath. The lefty was evaluated by team doctors after the contest and received a clean bill of health, so his availability for Wednesday isn't in any doubt. Anderson will match up against the Cubs for the second time this season and will look to replicate the results he yielded April 21, when he held Chicago to two runs and struck out six over six innings to collect his lone win on the campaign.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Lined up for Thursday start

The Braves are targeting Thursday's game against the Mets for Teheran's (back) next turn through the rotation, Grant McAuley of 92-9 The Game Atlanta reports.

Teheran exited his last outing Friday against the Phillies with upper-back tightness, but it doesn't appear that a trip to the disabled list will be necessary after he completed a bullpen session Sunday without any reported complications. However, the Braves evidently felt it was prudent to build in an extra day of rest for Teheran, so he'll be pushed back in the pitching schedule to start the series finale in New York. In addition to benefiting from another day to recover from the back injury, Teheran will miss out on a head-to-head matchup with Jacob deGrom and will instead face off against Jason Vargas, which should enhance Teheran's chances of coming away with a win.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Called up for big-league debut

Soroka was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and will start Tuesday against the Mets.

A first-round pick in the 2015 draft, Soroka has posted strong numbers at every stop on the way to the big leagues. His minor-league ERA sits at 2.85 after 353.1 innings, with good strikeout and walk rates (7.9 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9). He's a potential mid-rotation starter with solid command of a fastball, slider and changeup. Tuesday's start could be just a one-off, as Julio Teheran (back) and Anibal Sanchez (hamstring) are not likely to be out too long. The 20-year-old has the talent to stick in the majors at some point this season, though, even if he's not up for long this time.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Nabs first win of season

Woodruff tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and picked up the win in Monday's victory over the Reds.

Woodruff gave up at least one earned run in his first three outings with the Brewers this season, but he has been sharp over two outings since returning from a three-week trip to the minors, and was able to grab his first win of the season Monday. Woodruff remains a starter long term, but with the Brewers' rotation stocked with veterans, he will continue working out of the bullpen for now.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Gives up three runs in no-decision

Lauer allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Monday against the Giants.

Lauer recovered well from a disastrous first start last time out against the Rockies, when he served up six earned runs in just three innings. He gave up three runs on a pair of extra-base hits in the first inning, but settled down admirably with four shutout innings from there. Lauer relied primarily on his fastball, but his cutter was nasty, as he used it to rack up four swinging strikes on just 11 pitches. Lauer is just 22 years old and has had to make his first two starts in hostile environments; we'll see if he can shine when he makes his home debut Sunday against the Dodgers.
