Freddy Peralta SP | TB
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Tosses two-hit gem
Peralta (1-0) earned the win against the Reds on Wednesday by allowing only two hits over eight shutout innings. He struck out 11 and did not issue a walk.
Peralta allowed four runs and was unable to finish four innings during his season debut against the Cardinals, but rebounded in a major way Wednesday. The Reds never managed to reach second base against the 22-year-old. The young right-hander appeared close to returning for the ninth inning, but a lengthy eight-pitch strikeout of Yasiel Puig ended up spelling an end to his afternoon. Peralta lines up to face the Angels on the road next Tuesday.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Start pushed back
Flaherty will not start Thursday as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Both teams had a scheduled off day Friday, so Thursday's series opener will simply be pushed back by 24 hours. While nothing is confirmed, the Cardinals figure to push their rotation back by a day, leaving Flaherty to take the ball for Friday's series opener. In his only start so far this season, the 23-year-old allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out four in 4.1 innings against the Brewers.

Michael Lorenzen RP | TOR
Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Gives up go-ahead homer
Lorenzen gave up the go-ahead homer to the Brewers' Orlando Arcia in Tuesday's loss. He also allowed two walks after that, but those didn't come around to score.
Lorenzen came in with the game tied 1-1, two men on and two outs. Arcia had been 0-for-16 on the season before his opposite field shot. Lorenzen had been dominant in his previous outing against the Pirates, so don't read too much into this bad outing.

Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Padres' Eric Lauer: Loses to D-backs
Lauer suffered his first loss of 2019, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one across five innings against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks had baserunners in every inning against Lauer, but it was actually the long ball that did him in Tuesday. It was home-run derby at Petco Park, as the Diamondbacks and Padres combined for eight homers. The Diamondbacks smashed five of them, including two against Lauer. The left-hander has given up 13 hits in 11 innings to begin this season, but when he hasn't given up the long ball, he's worked around those hits, posting a 3.27 ERA during his first two outings. One has to figure, though, that if Lauer continues to give up this many hits, the opposition is going to score more runs.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Bounces back with 10 strikeouts
Greinke (1-1) bounced back, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out 10 with no walks across six innings in a victory against the Padres on Tuesday.
This performance was vintage Greinke, as he displayed pinpoint control all night with 25 called strikes and no walks. Greinke did yield two more home runs, which is a concern because that's six long balls in his first 9.2 innings this season, but this was still a very strong start. Greinke has 13 strikeouts in 9.2 innings to open 2019. He also helped his cause, hitting a pair of home runs in the three-run win.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Posts strong outing versus Giants
Ryu (2-0) earned a victory against the Giants, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking none across seven innings Tuesday.
The only two runs Ryu yielded came on a homer from Madison Bumgarner in the sixth. Because of two double plays, Ryu faced the minimum in six of the seven innings he pitched. The 32-year-old has been sharp to open the season, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in his first two outings.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Picks up win in season debut
Eflin (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals by allowing only three hits and one walk across five scoreless innings. He recorded nine strikeouts.
Eflin had zero issues against Washington as he allowed only one runner to reach second base. The 24-year-old needed 85 pitches to get through five frames and he's likely still ramping up his arm strength a bit. Eflin next lines up to start against the Twins on Sunday.

Jose Urena SP | LAA
Marlins' Jose Urena: Rough first frame
Urena (0-2) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four across four innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Mets.
Urena gave up all five of his runs in the first inning, though he allowed only one extra-base hit. He settled in after, but was still forced to exit early due to his high pitch count. It hasn't been a positive start to the season for Urena, as he's now allowed 10 earned runs in just 8.2 innings of work across two starts. More positively, he has struck out six and walked two while allowing just one home run.

Kyle Freeland SP | COL
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Takes loss, whiffs 10
Freeland (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out 10 across 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Rays.
Freeland labored through the first inning, throwing 31 pitches, walking two batters and allowing all three of his runs to cross the plate. Thereafter, he allowed only two baserunners, though he was unable to pitch deep into the game due to his extended first frame. On the positive side, his 10 strikeouts matched his season-best mark from his 2018 breakout campaign.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Strikes out eight in no-decision
DeSclafani struck out eight and permitted just one earned run over five innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday. He allowed three hits and three walks as Milwaukee won 4-3.
DeSclafani gave up only one run on a third-inning single to Jesus Aguilar, but was removed for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth after throwing 89 pitches. The 28-year-old was making his first start of 2019 and is now scheduled for his next start Sunday in Pittsburgh.
