  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Rain pushes start back

Castillo will start Friday's game against the Tigers after Thursday's contest against the Cubs was postponed due to rain, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

With rain pushing the right-hander's start back a day, Castillo will have a chance to try and replicate the dominant outing he logged against Detroit in his last start. Castillo punched out 11 Tigers while allowing just one run in six innings of work in his season debut last Saturday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Named starter for Friday's game

Gonsolin will start Friday's game on the road against the Diamondbacks, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Although Gonsolin began the season at the Dodgers' alternate training site, he'll fill the team's hole in the rotation after Alex Wood (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. With Clayton Kershaw (back) expected to return Sunday or Monday, Gonsolin's appearance will likely only be a spot start. The right-hander made 11 appearances (six starts) with the Dodgers last season, posting a 2.93 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 40 innings.

  • Colin Rea SP | CHC

Cubs' Colin Rea: Joins big club

Rea was recalled from the Cubs' alternate camp site Thursday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Rea will replace Dillon Maples on the roster and in the bullpen. The right-hander spent all of last season with Triple-A Iowa, posting a 3.95 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 26 starts (148 innings). He'll likely provide length out of the bullpen for the Cubs.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Getting another start

Mahle is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

With Wade Miley (groin) landing on the injured list, Mahle will stick in the big-league rotation for at least one more turn. The right-hander held his own during a start against the Cubs earlier in the week, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four batters in four innings.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Set to return Saturday

DeSclafani (shoulder) will start Saturday's game against the Tigers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

DeSclafani was placed on the injured list with a mild right teres major strain just before the season, but he progressed through his recovery quickly and will take the place of Wade Miley (groin) in the rotation since the latter is slated to land on the injured list Friday. DeSclafani pitched four innings in his final appearance in camp, but it's unclear whether he'll be at full strength in his first start back.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Reds' Wade Miley: Slated to go on injured list

Miley will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a groin injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Miley struggled in his season debut against the Cubs on Monday, and his injury designation could help provide an explanation for his lack of results. He'll officially be placed on the injured list Friday, which means that he'll miss his scheduled start for the weekend. As a result, Anthony DeSclafani (shoulder) will start Saturday's contest with Tyler Mahle taking the mound Sunday.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Survives 3.1 innings

May threw 76 pitches over 3.1 innings against the Astros on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision.

May did well to limit Houston to a lone run, though he was far from efficient in the short outing. The right-hander had trouble missing bats -- he registered only four swinging strikes -- consequently allowing the Astros to foul off 17 pitches and drive up May's pitch count. Still, the 22-year-old has mostly held his own in his first two starts, and he's lined up to take his next turn in the rotation at San Diego on Tuesday.

  • Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Added to 60-man pool

Sanchez was added to Philadelphia's 60-man player pool Thursday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Sanchez, who was acquired from the Rays in an offseason trade, will report to the team's alternate camp site. The hard-throwing lefty will likely be developed as a starter, though he could move quickly if he is transitioned to the bullpen.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Giants' Tyler Anderson: Works in long relief

Anderson tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Padres. He scattered four hits and two walks and struck out two in the 49-pitch outing.

After serving as an opening pitcher for Kevin Gausman in both players' season debuts Friday against the Dodgers, Anderson shifted into more of a long-relief role in his second outing of the campaign. He provided the Giants with quality length out of the bullpen, recording as many outs as starter Johnny Cueto in 38 fewer pitches. The lefty's prior starting experience could result in him getting a look in the San Francisco rotation down the road, but it will be difficult to mine fantasy value from him in his current role.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Start vs. Blue Jays postponed

Wheeler's scheduled start against the Blue Jays on Saturday has been postponed, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

The Phillies announced that a pair of staff members tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, prompting the team to shut down its stadium and postpone this weekend's series against the Blue Jays. It remains to be seen when Wheeler will pitch next.
