Peterson (1-0) picked up the win in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.

A three-run blast by Matt Olson in the fifth inning accounted for most of the damage off Peterson, but the Mets had already built a 5-1 lead and Atlanta couldn't find a tying run. The southpaw has pitched well enough to stay in the rotation, posting a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB through 19 innings in the majors this season, but it's not clear what the Mets' plans are for the 26-year-old after the twin bill.

Morton (1-3) took the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, coughing up five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

The veteran right-hander has yet to complete six innings in any of his starts this season and has walked at least three batters in four straight, as Morton continues to struggle. He'll carry a 6.85 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and shaky 18:14 K:BB through 23.2 innings into his next outing.

DeSclafani (ankle) played catch Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

DeSclafani hit the injured list in late April with right ankle inflammation and was shut down from throwing for a week. He probably won't need all that much time to get back up to speed, as he's been out for less than two weeks, but his expected return date has not yet been specified.

Miley (elbow) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Cubs have yet to announce which affiliate Miley will join, but he's been given the green light to pitch in a game after his left elbow checked out fine following Sunday's bullpen session and Tuesday's light catch session. Because he was sidelined for much of spring training with a neck issue before the elbow problem cropped up in early April, Miley will likely need at least two or three starts in the minors before he's deemed ready to return from the 10-day injured list.

Clevinger won't get to make his season debut Tuesday against the Guardians as expected, as the game has been postponed due to rain, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Clevinger was finally ready to go after returning from Tommy John surgery and a knee sprain, but he'll have to wait just a bit longer. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, with Clevinger slated to start the first game of the day, according to Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Smyly was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday and won't make his scheduled start against the White Sox, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Players may spend between three and seven days on the bereavement list, meaning Smyly should return either late this week or early next week. Scott Effross will make a spot start in his place Tuesday.

Clevinger (knee) was activated from the injured list as expected ahead of Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

Clevinger entered camp at the tail end of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he subsequently picked up a sprained right knee that further delayed his return to action. He's ready to go after making three rehab starts, a stretch in which he struck out 15 batters in 8.2 innings while giving up just two runs. He unlikely to handle a full starter's workload right away, however, as he threw just 3.2 innings and 67 pitches in his final tune-up. Ray Kerr was optioned to clear a roster spot.

Carrasco is slated to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Atlanta, as David Peterson was announced as the Mets' starting pitcher for the first game of the twin bill.

Manager Buck Showalter previously confirmed Monday that Carrasco and Peterson -- who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse -- would be the Mets' starting pitchers for the twin bill, but the skipper didn't specify in which order the two would take the hill. With Peterson having now been announced as the Game 1 starter, Carrasco will draw a head-to-head matchup with Kyle Wright in the nightcap. Carrasco enters Tuesday with a 4.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB across 22 innings through his first four starts.

Peterson was called up from Triple-A Syracuse and will start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Atlanta.

Manager Buck Showalter previously relayed Monday that Peterson would be summoned from the minors to make a start during the doubleheader, though the skipper didn't specify whether the southpaw would get the ball in Game 1 or Game 2. Peterson will ultimately oppose Charlie Morton in the afternoon affair, while Carlos Carrasco takes the hill for the Mets in the nightcap. Before being demoted to Syracuse on April 23, Peterson made three appearances (two starts) for the Mets, working 14 innings while giving up one earned run on nine hits and five walks.

Matz was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday.

Players may spend between three and seven days on the bereavement list. Matz started Monday against the Royals, so his next turn in the rotation lines up to come Saturday in San Francisco. He'll be eligible to return by then, but it's possible his next outing will be slightly delayed.
