DeGrom allowed three runs on four hits while striking out 13 in five innings in a 7-3 win Sunday against Pittsburgh. He did not factor into the decision.

DeGrom was nearly unhittable through the first five innings, allowing a double to Oneil Cruz to begin the game before striking out 13 of the next 15 batters he faced. The Pirates got to him in the sixth, though, as the first two batters recorded singles and Cruz deposited a pitch into the seats for a three-run homer. DeGrom has allowed homers in four of his last five appearances and has allowed three runs in each of his last two starts. With Sunday's 13 punchouts, he's struck out 44.1 percent of batters faced this year. His next start will likely be next weekend in Oakland.

Oviedo allowed three runs on five hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out six batters in four innings in a 7-3 loss Sunday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.

Oviedo got off to a rough start as eight of the first 12 batters he faced reached safely, leading to three runs. He eventually settled down, retiring eight of the last 10 batters he faced. Walks have always been a bit of an issue for the 24-year-old, but the problem has compounded since joining the Pirates, as he's walked 21.5 percent of batters faced as a member of the team. He has a 4.61 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 16:14 K:BB in 13.2 innings in four starts as a Pirate. His next start will likely be next weekend against the Cubs.

Montgomery (8-5) took the loss Sunday versus the Reds. He allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine over 5.1 innings.

The Cardinals mustered only two hits and four walks, putting just three of those six baserunners in scoring position. That was insufficient help for Montgomery, who was not at his sharpest for a second straight start. This was the third time in nine starts as a Cardinal the southpaw has allowed multiple runs. He now has a 3.26 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 150:34 K:BB through 168.1 innings between the Yankees and the Cardinals this season. He'll look to put an end to this mini-slump next weekend in a tough projected road start versus the Dodgers.

Nelson was removed from Sunday's game against the Padres in the top of the sixth inning after being hit by a comebacker on his upper right arm, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Nelson allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out three in 5.1 innings to begin Sunday's matchup, but his start was cut short due to his injury. He threw a few warmup pitches and seemed to want to stay in Sunday's matchup, but he was ultimately removed. If he's cleared to make his next turn through the rotation, he tentatively lines up to start at home against the Giants on Friday.

Feltner (3-8) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four batters over 5.1 innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cubs.

Feltner had some trouble against Yan Gomes, who tagged the Rockies' starter for a two-run single in the third inning and a solo home run in the sixth. The Rockies had already scored four times in the first two innings, so Feltner's struggles didn't cost him a positive result. The right-hander has completed six innings in just three of his outings this year, and he's allowed at least three runs in five straight starts. He has a 6.05 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 72:29 K:BB through 80.1 innings across 17 appearances (16 starts). He's lined up for a home start versus the Padres in his next outing.

Wood (shoulder) wasn't cleared to resume throwing this weekend and was shut down for the season Sunday by the Giants, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander has been sidelined with a shoulder impingement since the start of September, and he won't be able to rejoin the active roster during the final weeks of the season. Wood will finish the campaign with a 5.10 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 131:30 K:BB across 130.2 innings. He's under contract for 2023 at $12.5 million, which is the final year of his deal.

Anderson will return from the paternity list to start one of the two games in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Anderson landed on the paternity list Saturday and will rejoin the Dodgers on Monday once the team returns to Los Angeles. The Dodgers haven't yet announced which game Anderson will start during the doubleheader, but Michael Grove will pitch during the other game. Over his last seven starts, Anderson has posted a 1.94 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 46.1 innings.

The Pirates recalled Ortiz from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.

Pittsburgh returned Ortiz to Triple-A on Wednesday after he served as the 29th man for a doubleheader with the Reds the day prior, but he'll be able to rejoin the big club less than a week after being optioned due to JT Brubaker (arm) landing on the injured list Sunday in a corresponding move. Ortiz will presumably be the top candidate to step into the rotation Tuesday against the Yankees in place of Brubaker after an impressive showing in his MLB debut last week. The hard-throwing right-hander topped 100 miles per hour on six occasions in his start versus the Reds, tossing 5.2 scoreless frames while striking out six.

The Pirates placed Brubaker on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right arm inflammation, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Brubaker's early exit in his most recent start Thursday against the Mets was attributed to lat discomfort, but the Pirates characterized his injury differently upon placing him on the IL. Whatever the case, Brubaker won't be eligible to return from IL until Oct. 1, and with the season coming to an end less than a week after that date, it's possible the Pirates opt to keep him on the shelf for good. Luis Ortiz was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis and will presumably step into the rotation as a replacement for Brubaker, who has posted a 4.58 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 145:53 K:BB across 141.1 innings on the campaign.

Syndergaard will work as Zack Wheeler's piggyback partner for the next two turns in the rotation, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Syndergaard, who has a 6.14 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over his last four starts, lost the battle for the last rotation spot to Bailey Falter and will come in to relieve Wheeler in his first two starts back from the injured list. The arrangement could lead to Syndergaard qualifying for a win or two if he pitches well in this new role. His first opportunity will come Wednesday against Toronto, and he's then expected to follow Wheeler again Sept. 27 in Chicago. The Phillies expect to add Syndergaard back to their rotation for their Oct. 1 doubleheader in Washington.
