Shinnosuke Ogasawara RP | WAS
Nationals' Shinnosuke Ogasawara: Promoted for MLB debut
The Nationals selected Ogasawara's contract from Triple-A Rochester in advance of his start Sunday against the Red Sox in Washington.
The Japanese left-hander has been called up for his MLB debut after missing most of the first three months of the season due to an oblique injury. Ogasawara has a 4.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB in 15 innings over his three starts for Rochester this season. The 27-year-old inked a two-year, $3.5 million contract with the Nationals in January after spending the first nine seasons of his career in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, where had had a 3.67 ERA and 7.1 K/9 in 190 games with the Chunichi Dragons.

Chad Patrick SP | MIL
Brewers' Chad Patrick: Sent to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Patrick to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.
The right-hander took a no-decision in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Miami after giving up two runs over five innings, and he'll be the odd man out of Milwaukee's rotation with Brandon Woodruff (elbow/ankle/shoulder) returning from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's series finale. Patrick has been a quality rotation piece for the Brewers in his first 19 big-league outings this season with a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 95:30 K:BB across 94.2 innings, but Milwaukee doesn't need six starters while heading into the final week before the All-Star break. Patrick is likely to receive another look in the Brewers rotation at some point during the second half, but for now, he'll head to Nashville for the first time in 2025.

Brandon Woodruff SP | MIL
Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Activated for season debut
Woodruff (elbow/ankle/shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday against the Marlins.
Woodruff will make his first MLB appearance since Sept. 23, 2023 now that he's made a full recovery from shoulder surgery along with minor ankle and elbow injuries suffered during his minor-league rehab assignments. The 32-year-old has pitched in 10 minor-league games this season across multiple assignments, and he threw 82 pitches across 3.2 frames in his final rehab outing with Triple-A Nashville last weekend. The Brewers are likely to be cautious with Woodruff given the long layoff, but he shouldn't be facing significant workload limitations.

Cal Quantrill SP | ATL
Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Can't complete four frames
Quantrill didn't factor in the decision Saturday against the Brewers after allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out six.
The right-hander needed 71 pitches to record just 11 outs and remains without a victory in his past eight outings. Quantrill hasn't pitched horribly during that stretch with a 4.29 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, but he's lasted long enough to qualify for the win in just half of those games. Through 17 starts this season, he has a 5.40 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:23 K:BB across 76.2 innings.

Spencer Schwellenbach SP | ATL
Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Moves to 60-day IL
Atlanta transferred Schwellenbach (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Schwellenbach felt soreness in his elbow a day after a June 28 start against the Phillies and was sent for further tests, which revealed a small fracture. The 25-year-old is expected to be shut down from throwing for at least four weeks and is unlikely to return to the Atlanta rotation until September, so his move to the 60-day IL won't affect his recovery timeline. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Jesse Chavez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Logan Webb SP | SF
Giants' Logan Webb: Notches eighth victory
Webb (8-6) picked up the win Saturday against the A's, giving up two runs on seven hits and three walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six.
It's the eighth straight quality start and 15th of the campaign for Webb, with the latter figure leading MLB. The right-hander already has an impressive big-league resume but is potentially in the midst of a career year with a 2.62 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 133:27 K:BB across 120.1 innings

Michael Burrows SP | PIT
Pirates' Mike Burrows: Fires five scoreless in Seattle
Burrows didn't factor in the decision Saturday against the Mariners after allowing three hits and four walks over five shutout innings. He struck out six.
Burrows struggled with his control as he set a season high with four walks, but he was able to scatter three hits to keep Seattle off the board. The right-hander has yet to last six frames in any of his nine outings this season, but he's pitched well as a back-end rotation piece for Pittsburgh with a 3.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 41:14 K:BB in 39.2 innings.

Carson Spiers SP | CIN
Reds' Carson Spiers: Rehab moving to Triple-A
Spiers (shoulder) is expected to have his rehab assignment shifted from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Spiers made his lone appearance in the ACL on Wednesday, allowing two hits while striking out four and hitting a batter over 2.1 scoreless innings. He threw 49 pitches in that outing and will look to build on that workload Tuesday, when he's expected to piggyback fellow rehabbing right-hander Hunter Greene (groin). Spiers look on track to rejoin the Reds after the All-Star break and will likely fill a multi-inning role out of the bullpen after he started in two of his three appearances for Cincinnati before landing on the shelf April 20 due to a right shoulder impingement.

German Marquez SP | COL
Rockies' German Marquez: Lit up by White Sox
Marquez (3-10) was charged with the loss Saturday against the White Sox after giving up six runs on 11 hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out two.
The only real positive from Marquez's outing Saturday was the length, as he tied a season high in hits allowed and struck out two or fewer for the sixth time this year. The veteran right-hander's 10 losses are tied for second most in MLB, while his 5.84 ERA is the worst among 70 qualified starters. Marquez lines up to pitch on the road in Cincinnati next weekend, but he's pretty clearly off the fantasy radar at this point.

Stephen Kolek SP | KC
Padres' Stephen Kolek: Chased by Rangers in loss
Kolek (3-4) allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 5.1 innings in a loss to Texas on Saturday.
Kolek struggled throughout the outing -- of the six innings in which he pitched, he was charged with at least one run in four of them. It's never a positive for a starting pitcher to allow as many homers as he notches strikeouts, which is exactly what Kolek did Saturday with two of each. The right-hander's six runs allowed tied a season-worst mark, and the nine hits were the most he has surrendered in an outing this year. Kolek has been fading of late, giving up three or more earned runs in four of his past five starts. That's pushed his season ERA up to 4.24 through 68 innings.
