The Rangers reinstated Mahle (elbow) from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Mahle will make his 2024 debut Tuesday and his first MLB appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. The right-hander threw 74 pitches in his most latest minor-league rehab start and shouldn't face and significant workload restrictions Tuesday. In six rehab starts, Mahle allowed five runs in 18 innings with 18 strikeouts.

Schmidt (lat) threw 20 pitches of live batting practice Tuesday and will face hitters again Saturday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Schmidt was reportedly feeling good after Tuesday's session. After throwing batting practice again Saturday, the Yankees will decide whether or not Schmidt is ready for a rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has exclusively worked as a starter the past two seasons and, per Kirschner, the Yankees intend to build him up as a starter. However, Schmidt doesn't openly oppose coming out of the bullpen if that's what's best for the team. The right-hander has been shelved since late May and remains multiple weeks away from returning.

Warren will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Angels, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The Yankees will go with Luis Gil in the first game of the twin bill before turning to Warren, who will be up as the 27th man before likely being sent back down after the start. Warren permitted four runs with a 6:2 K:BB over 5.1 innings against the Phillies in his major-league debut July 30.

Triple-A Norfolk placed McDermott on the 7-day injured list Tuesday with a right scapula stress reaction, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

McDermott's last appearance for Norfolk came back on July 30, and he struck out 10 while yielding just two runs over six innings. However, the right-hander evidently picked up an injury during or after that outing and now appears likely to miss multiple weeks.

Daniel and the Angels will not play Tuesday after their game against the Yankees was postponed due to inclement weather.

The contest has been rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader Wednesday. Daniel will now take the ball for the Angels in one of those two games.

The Guardians designated Curry for assignment Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Anthony Gose. Curry has had uninspiringly results as a swingman with the Guardians over the past three seasons, posting a 4.53 ERA and 85:41 K:BB over 129 innings.

The Guardians optioned Allen to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Allen was solid in a spot start Monday against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs over five innings. With Allen heading back to the minors, it would seem the Guardians feel good about Tanner Bibee's (shoulder) chances of being ready to make a start later this week.

The right-hander gradually got stretched out over the course of six rehab starts, most recently tossing 4.2 innings and 74 pitches this past Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock. The return of Mahle should bolster the back end of a Texas rotation that's currently down three of its top contributors in Jacob deGrom (elbow), Max Scherzer (shoulder) and Jon Gray (groin).

Bush (0-1) took the loss against Oakland on Monday, allowing three runs on two hits and five walks while striking out three batters over four innings.

Bush was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday for his first major-league appearance and was handed the task of trying to end Chicago's 20-game losing streak. The southpaw couldn't get the job done, mostly due to his control -- he gave up just two hits but walked five batters and threw only 45 of 85 pitches for strikes. Bush struggled with walks in the minors too, issuing 42 free passes over 99.2 frames between Double-A and Triple-A. Despite Monday's rough start, he could get at least another turn in the rotation with Drew Thorpe (forearm) landing on the injured list Friday.
