  • Jack Leiter P | TEX

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Joins Texas' taxi squad

Leiter has been added to the Rangers' taxi squad and is likely to start Wednesday versus the White Sox, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Leiter has been torched for 17 runs over 9.1 innings in his first three major-league starts. However, he's been excellent of late at Triple-A Round Rock with a 2.57 ERA and a 63:18 K:BB across 42 innings during his last nine starts and the Rangers are ready to give him another chance. Leiter is an intriguing streaming option given the opponent, although one with obvious risk.

  • Joey Cantillo SP | CLE

Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Works late in Game 1

Cantillo didn't allow a baserunner over 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out one in a 4-3 loss to the Royals in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader.

Cantillo was scheduled to pitch in the game but didn't appear until the eighth inning, as the Guardians opted for a true bullpen game in the matinee rather than an opener/bulk reliever format. This was Cantillo's first scoreless appearance in five major-league outings this season. He now has a 7.71 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB over 18.2 innings. He was the 27th man for the doubleheader, so it's likely Cantillo will be returned to Triple-A Columbus before Tuesday's game.

  • Bailey Ober SP | MIN

Twins' Bailey Ober: Smoked by Atlanta

Ober (12-6) yielded nine runs on seven hits and two walks over two innings while taking a loss against Atlanta on Monday. He struck out two batters.

Ober was tagged with a three-run shot by Matt Olson in the first inning and a two-run homer by Travis d'Arnaud in the second. Entering Monday's start, Ober had given up nine total runs over his previous six outings, going 4-0 with a 2.02 ERA during that span. The last time he allowed more than six runs in a start was his season debut against the Royals on March 31. Ober saw his ERA jump from 3.54 to 4.06 after the rough outing. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is lined up to be at home against the Blue Jays.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Red Sox's Rich Hill: Expected to be called up

The Red Sox selected Hill's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Hill made just one appearance with Worcester after inking a minor-league contract in mid-August, tossing two scoreless innings on Aug. 23. The 44-year-old threw 28 pitches in the appearance, so he's not ready to be used as a traditional starter initially. Hill posted a 5.41 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 146.1 innings with the Pirates and Padres in 2023.

  • Ronel Blanco RP | HOU

Astros' Ronel Blanco: Falls short of quality start

Blanco came away with a no-decision in Monday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander blanked Philly through four innings before giving up single runs in the fifth and sixth, and Blanco left the mound after 91 pitches (61 strikes) just short of his 13th quality start of the season. He's taken a big step back since the All-Star break, managing only one QS in seven trips to the mound while posting a 4.98 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 41:15 K:BB through 34.1 innings, and his career-high workload of 143.1 frames likely has something to do with that. Blanco will look for his first win since July 9 in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Royals.

  • Guardians' Logan Allen: Hit hard in spot start

Allen (8-5) took the loss in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Royals, coughing up five runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out one.

Called up to make a spot start in the twin bill, Allen tossed only 43 of 76 pitches for strikes, and when he did get the ball over the plate, Kansas City hitters tended to hit it hard -- four of the eight hits off the southpaw went for extra bases, including solo homers by Paul DeJong in the second inning and Salvador Perez in the fifth. The Guardians are still looking for a reliable fifth starter with Alex Cobb (finger) sidelined, but Allen doesn't appear to be a solution given his 5.73 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 2.03 HR/9 over 97.1 big-league innings this season.

  • Daniel Lynch SP | KC

Royals' Daniel Lynch: Snags three-inning save

Lynch picked up his first career save in the second game of Monday's doubleheader sweep of the Guardians, giving up a hit and a walk over three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out one.

The southpaw was called up from Triple-A Omaha earlier in the day to provide some length to the Royals' bullpen, and Lynch finished up a 9-4 win in the nightcap with a 34-pitch outing. He's been effective in Triple-A since being sent down in mid-June, posting a 2.80 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 61:19 K:BB through 12 starts and 74 innings, but Kansas City doesn't have room in its big-league rotation for the 27-year-old at the moment.

  • Ryan Pepiot RP | TB

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Goes six frames in loss

Pepiot (7-6) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out six batters in six innings in a loss to Seattle on Monday.

Pepiot was given an early one-run lead but allowed five runs across the second through fourth frames and didn't get any additional support from Tampa Bay's offense. The right-hander was particularly impacted by the long ball, as the two homers he served up accounted for four of the Mariners' five runs. Though he wasn't great in the outing, Pepiot did get credit for a quality start, as only two of the runs he surrendered were earned. Since returning from an over-one-month stay on the injured list Aug. 16, Pepiot has given up nine runs across 17.1 frames, but just four of the runs have been earned. He's also posted a solid 16:3 K:BB during that span.

  • Bryce Miller SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Fans 10 in 10th victory

Miller (10-7) earned the win over Tampa Bay on Monday, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters over seven innings.

Miller was dominant in the outing, racking up 14 whiffs and tying a season high with 10 punchouts. The only run he allowed came on a Josh Lowe solo homer in the second inning, and Miller surrendered just one other hit (a single by Lowe in the fifth). The right-handed hurler has been outstanding of late, allowing just three runs (all on solo homers) over his past four starts covering 24 frames.. Miller has broken through in his second big-league campaign -- he ranks 11th among qualified starters with a 3.23 ERA and fourth with a 0.98 WHIP while registering a 143:33 K:BB over 150.2 innings.

  • Davis Martin SP | CHW

White Sox's Davis Martin: Tames Tigers in no-decision

Martin allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Detroit on Monday.

Martin held Detroit scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Tigers pushed across a run on a trio of singles. That was the final frame for the right-hander, and he was in line for the victory until Chicago's bullpen collapsed in the seventh. Martin continued a solid stretch of starts -- over his past four outings, he's given up just four earned runs while posting an 18:7 K:BB over 20 innings. He's tentatively lined up to face the Mets at home in his next start.
