Royals' Cole Ragans: Punches out six in no-decision

Ragans did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 1-0 win at Washington, pitching six scoreless innings while yielding three hits and three walks. He struck out six.

The Kansas City southpaw picked up his fourth consecutive quality start and 21st overall with this 89-pitch performance. Over that span, Ragans has pitched to a stellar 1.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB across 25 innings. In total, the 26-year-old has fired 186.1 frames with a 3.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 223:67 K:BB this season. He currently lines up to make his last regular-season start at Atlanta this weekend, an outing that will have significant playoff implications.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Dazzles in win

Bibee (12-8) earned the win Tuesday versus Cincinnati, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out seven.

The Cleveland starter ended his 2024 regular season on a high note, securing his career-high 12th quality start while requiring only 88 pitches. After failing to secure seven Ks five times in his previous six outings, Bibee reached that mark for the 13th time this season, generating an impressive 16 whiffs. The only blemish on his performance came via an RBI single by Spencer Steer in the fourth. The 25-year-old Bibee has anchored the Guardians' rotation this season with a 3.47 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 187:44 K:BB across 173.2 innings and will feature prominently in the team's upcoming playoff run.

  • Luis Garcia SP | NYY

    Astros' Luis Garcia: Facing hitters

Garcia (elbow) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Garcia has already been ruled out for the rest of the season as he continues to work his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in May 2023. However, the fact he is back to facing hitters after having his throwing program paused in August bodes well for his availability to begin the 2025 campaign.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | SF

Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Moves to 60-day IL

The Rangers transferred Mahle (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Mahle was already ruled out for the rest of the season earlier in the month, so his move to the 60-day IL will simply create space on the 40-man roster for Matt Duffy, whose contract was selected from Triple-A on Tuesday. Mahle will celebrate his 30th birthday on Sunday, and he figures to be ready for the start of next season.

  • Ryan Pepiot RP | TB

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Falls to Detroit

Pepiot (8-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out six.

While Pepiot struggled with command a bit Tuesday, matching a season high with four walks, he managed to hold Detroit scoreless until Wenceel Perez's two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning. The 27-year-old right-hander has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 12 of his last 13 outings, posting a 2.71 ERA in that span (63 innings). Pepiot's ERA now sits at 3.64 through 126 innings this season with a 1.14 WHIP and 137:46 K:BB. He'll look to wrap up the campaign on a high note in his next and final outing, currently scheduled for this weekend in Boston.

  • Alec Marsh RP | KC

Royals' Alec Marsh: Shifting to bullpen

Marsh will move to the bullpen with Michael Lorenzen (hamstring) set to return from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against Washington, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old Marsh spent the past month in the Royals rotation but will shift to a relief role after posting a 4.37 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 22.2 innings over five starts during that span. The right-hander has started in 24 of his 25 big-league appearances this season and has a 4.65 ERA and 121:39 K:BB over 124 innings.

  • Royals' Michael Lorenzen: Making return Wednesday

Lorenzen (hamstring) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Nationals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander has been out since late August due to a hamstring strain but will rejoin Kansas City's rotation after a pair of rehab outings. Lorenzen had a limit workload in both rehab appearances and will likely have some limitations Wednesday, which will be his final start of the regular season.

  • Chris Paddack SP | CIN

Twins' Chris Paddack: Faces hitters Monday

Paddack (forearm) threw a live batting practice session Monday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Paddack is slated to throw again Thursday before the Twins make a decision on whether to activate him from the 15-day injured list. He's been sidelined since late July with a right forearm strain and would surely return as a reliever, if he does make it back later this week or during the postseason.

  • Tarik Skubal SP | DET

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Stellar in 18th win

Skubal (18-4) earned the win Tuesday over Tampa Bay, allowing two hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

Skubal's now earned wins in six of his last nine outings -- he's only allowed more than two earned runs once in that span while posting a 1.94 ERA across 55.2 innings. Skubal, the current Cy Young frontrunner in the American League, will carry a 2.39 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 228:35 K:BB into his final regular-season start, likely to come this weekend at home against the White Sox.

  • Steven Zobac SP | KC

Royals' Steven Zobac: Strikeout rate jumps at Double-A

Zobac notched a 3.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 65:14 K:BB in 55.1 innings across 11 appearances for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Zobac was effective earlier in the year with High-A Quad Cities (3.95 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) but his strikeout rate jumped from 20 percent to 28.6 percent after his July 9 promotion to Double-A. While the 23-year-old righty may not have a true plus pitch, he has never logged a walk rate higher than 7.1 percent and built up to 126 innings this year. Zobac projects to be a No. 4 or No. 5 starter, but he could exceed that projection if his changeup improves or if he adds a tick to his low-90s fastball that already has good movement.
