The Tigers acquired Ryan (hamstring), Zyhir Hope and Brady Smith from the Dodgers on Saturday in exchange for Tarik Skubal, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The Tigers are acquiring a significant prospect haul in order to send their southpaw ace to the two-time defending World Series champions. Ryan made his major-league debut for the Dodgers in 2024 but didn't pitch at all in 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He's spent the entire 2026 campaign in Triple-A, where he's posted a 4.46 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 36.1 innings in between multiple IL stints due to hamstring issues. The right-hander last pitched June 17, and while there's no clear date for his return, he could get plugged right into Detroit's big-league rotation once he's healthy.

Messick did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 12-8 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Messick didn't allow a run until the fifth inning, but he mostly labored and departed at 91 pitches without completing the frame. Remarkably, it marked the first time in 22 turns that the southpaw was unable to complete five innings, though he still extended his streak of starts yielding exactly one earned run to five straight. He'll take a 2.57 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 128:37 K:BB across 129.2 frames this season into a road matchup with the White Sox next weekend.

Fried did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Fried allowed a run in the first inning but settled in from there, throwing 54 of 78 pitches for strikes with 12 whiffs before departing in a 1-1 tie. The southpaw has increased his workload in each of his three starts since returning from the injured list July 22, allowing four earned runs over 13.1 innings during that stretch while posting a healthy 18:4 K:BB. He'll take a 3.12 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 75 innings this season into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

DeGrom (7-7) took the loss against the Astros on Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

DeGrom was uncharacteristically wild, issuing a season-high five walks while throwing just 52 of 91 pitches for strikes. It was the 38-year-old's shortest outing since a three-inning struggle May 22 in Anaheim, though it's the third time in his past seven starts that he's yielded five or more earned runs. He owns a 3.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 135:29 K:BB across 113.2 innings this season and will aim to rebound in a home matchup with the Orioles next weekend.

Blanco did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Rangers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Blanco allowed three runs over the third and fourth innings, throwing 53 of 82 pitches for strikes overall and falling one out shy of qualifying for his first win of the season. After spending the first half of the campaign completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery, the 32-year-old has now yielded 12 earned runs and five homers over three outings with the Astros, though Saturday marked the first time he didn't surrender multiple long balls. He'll take a 7.36 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB across 14.2 innings into a road matchup with the Padres next weekend.

Atlanta traded Braun and Carter Holton to Kansas City on Saturday in exchange for Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Braun has been in Atlanta's organization since 2023 but will now look to work his way up to the majors with the Royals. He has split his time this season between Double-A and Triple-A, and between the two levels he has a 3.53 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 82:27 K:BB over 94.1 innings. He'll begin his stint with the Royals at Triple-A Omaha.

Holton and Lucas Braun were traded by Atlanta to Kansas City on Saturday in exchange for Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Holton was a second-round selection of Atlanta in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft but will now look to work his way up the Royals' farm system. He's spent most of the 2026 season in Single-A, where has a 2-1 record over seven outings (six starts) with a 5.08 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB over 33.2 innings.

Baz (4-10) took the loss Saturday against the Phillies, allowing one run on six hits and one walk in 6.1 innings. He struck out four.

It was a hard-luck loss for Baz, who held an imposing Philadelphia lineup scoreless until the fifth inning. The right-hander has found his groove after opening the year with a 5.48 ERA through his first eight starts, as he's logged nine quality starts in his last 14 outings and given up more two runs just four times during that span. Baz will carry a 3.86 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 111:45 K:BB over 128.1 frames into his next scheduled appearance in Texas.

The White Sox acquired Castillo from the Mariners on Saturday in exchange for right-hander Seranthony Dominguez, outfielder Nolan Jones and catcher Boston Smith, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The 31-year-old righty will head to Chicago and bolster a rotation that's received excellent results from Davis Martin and Sean Burke but uneven production from Anthony Kay, Noah Schultz and Erick Fedde at the other three spots. While the three-time All-Star easily becomes the White Sox's most battle-tested starter, Castillo has endured a career-worst 2026 campaign. After submitting a 3.54 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 32 starts for Seattle a season ago, Castillo turned in a 5.06 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 20 appearances (17 starts) in 2026 prior to being dealt. Castillo showed signs of righting the ship in May and June, but he went 0-3 with a 5.48 ERA and 1.52 WHIP while serving up seven home runs in 23 innings over four July outings. He last pitched Tuesday, so Castillo could be ready to make his White Sox debut during the team's series in Boston early next week.

Gilbert didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Twins, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out six.

Solo homers by Luke Keaschall in the fifth inning and Trevor Larnach in the sixth helped cost Gilbert his ninth win of the season, as he squandered an early 3-0 lead and had to settle for his 11th quality start. It's the first time he's served up multiple long balls in a start since June 2, but the right-hander has been tagged with at least three earned runs in five of his last six trips to the mound, leaving him with a 3.86 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 39:6 K:BB over 39.2 innings during that span. Gilbert will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Rays.
