Rodon (12-7) earned the win Tuesday against the Twins, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in seven innings. He struck out five.

Rodon gave up one run on one hit and one walk in a shaky first inning, but he more than settled in and was just about untouchable from that point on. Tuesday also represented the first instance since his July 11 start in which the All-Star left-hander pitched at least seven innings, and Rodon now sports a 3.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 164:58 K:BB over 146.2 frames. His next outing is slated for next week in Tampa Bay against the Rays, who have a .604 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of July.

Lopez (6-6) allowed four hits, struck out nine batters and walked none over seven shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Rays.

Lopez continues to look like the Athletics' best starter lately. Over his last four outings, he's posted a 28:6 K:BB across 24 scoreless innings in that impressive stretch. He won't keep this up forever, but his strong second half is showing serious developmental progress. He's now at a 3.30 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB through 84.2 innings over 19 appearances (15 starts) this season. Lopez will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is projected to be on the road in Minnesota.

Baz (8-9) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Athletics.

Baz had his longest start since he went seven innings July 1. The right-hander didn't get any help Tuesday, nor did he do himself any favors by allowing four or more runs for the fourth time in five starts. He's now at a 4.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 140:50 K:BB through 135 innings across 24 starts. He's already exceeded the 118.2 innings he had across all levels in 2024, so it's possible the 26-year-old is wearing down a bit. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Yankees.

Flaherty (6-12) took the loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six over 4.1 innings.

The right-hander cruised through four scoreless frames before unraveling in the fifth, surrendering six hits and all five of his runs in the inning before being lifted. After a strong July in which he never allowed more than three runs in a start, Flaherty has now been tagged for five earned runs in back-to-back outings. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 153:49 K:BB into his next scheduled start early next week against the Astros.

Wacha (7-9) got the win Tuesday over the Nationals, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in 5.2 innings.

Wacha was one out away from completing five scoreless frames but a triple from Luis Garcia pushed across the first run for the Nationals. Another triple in the sixth by CJ Abrams led to a second run against Wacha but he was otherwise able to hold Washington at bay. Wacha has now gone six straight starts allowing two earned runs or fewer and will aim to keep his strong stretch rolling next week at home against the Rangers.

Berrios (9-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing two hits and four walks in 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three.

Tuesday marked Berrios' first scoreless start since June 27 in Boston, and the two hits allowed matched a season low. However, the four walks fell one short of tying a season high, and the right-hander has surpassed five strikeouts on just one occasion over his last eight outings. Berrios has a weak 4.95 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB across those last eight appearances (40 innings) since the start of July, though he'll try to build on Tuesday's positive showing this weekend at home versus the Rangers.

The Astros recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

The left-hander was optioned to Sugar Land on Monday, but he'll quickly rejoin the major-league club since Josh Hader (shoulder) is headed to the injured list. Gordon has started in 13 of his 14 big-league appearances this season but is likely to operate as a reliever since the Astros now have Spencer Arrighetti and Cristian Javier back in the fold.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that Eflin (back) will undergo lumbar microdiscectomy surgery and will miss the rest of the 2025 season, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The 31-year-old received an injection to address his lower-back discomfort in early August shortly after landing on the injured list, but he's now headed for season-ending surgery. It was a difficult contract year for Eflin, who had three different stints on the injured list and will close the campaign with a 5.93 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB across 71.1 innings.

Manager Mark Kotsay said Monday that the Athletics received better news on Severino's left oblique strain than initially anticipated after the right-hander was evaluated in West Sacramento, Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America reports.

Severino was unexpectedly placed on the injured list over the weekend, prompting the Athletics to turn to rookie Luis Morales to make a start in his stead in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Orioles. Though Kotsay didn't go into specifics regarding the Athletics' findings on Severino's medical tests, the right-hander appears to have at least avoided a high-grade oblique strain, which most likely would have ended his season. Severino still appears unlikely to return from the IL when first eligible Aug. 21, but a return before the end of the month can't entirely be ruled out.

Springs (10-8) allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 3.1 innings to take the loss against Tampa Bay on Monday.

Springs got through a scoreless first inning but then gave up at least one run in each of the following three frames. He was pulled with one out in the fourth, marking his shortest outing since he completed just two innings against Toronto on May 30. Springs had been pitching well coming into Monday with three straight quality starts and a pair of wins over his previous 18 frames, though he's now given up at least one homer in four straight appearances. In fact, the 23 home runs Springs has surrendered this year are tied for seventh-most in the league, which is largely why he has a mediocre 4.06 ERA despite a strong 1.15 WHIP.
