Mariners' Taijuan Walker: To see foot specialist after exiting Tuesday

Walker will be sent to see a foot specialist after he left Tuesday's game with discomfort in his right foot, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.

It sounds unlikely that Walker will make his next start this weekend, as both the team and the player seem intent on getting to the bottom of his foot issue. He threw just 67 pitches before leaving Tuesday, and admitted that he felt discomfort when he was warming up in the bullpen, but attempted to pitch through the pain. Assuming Walker is unable to start Sunday, the Mariners could opt to go with a bullpen game in advance of the All-Star break or they could dig into the Triple-A rotation, although there are not any notably intriguing arms at that level.

Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Aggravates foot injury

Walker left Tuesday's game with discomfort in his right foot, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

The right-hander only made it four innings (67 pitches) before the discomfort became too much, and he struggled when on the mound. Walker gave up five runs on five hits, including three home runs, and is on the hook for his eighth loss of the season. Of course, the foot discomfort has been a recurring issue for several weeks now, but Walker and the Mariners have been adamant that there is nothing structurally wrong with the foot. He has able to battle through the pain in his last start after skipping a turn.

  • Michael Roth SP | TEX

Rangers' Michael Roth: Designated for assignment Tuesday

Roth was designated for assignment Tuesday.

Roth, who had his contract selected by Texas on Sunday, was tagged for six earned runs over 3.2 innings in Monday's outing against Boston. The Rangers recalled 22-year-old righty Jose Leclerc in a corresponding move. Roth will now be subject to waivers, but if he goes unclaimed, the Rangers plan to option him to Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Primed for promotion?

Berrios, 22, has allowed no more than one earned in any of his last four starts for Triple-A Rochester.

More specifically, Berrios has surrendered just two earned runs in his last 30 innings and tossed a complete game Sunday. Opposing batters are hitting just .180 against him on the season, and his ERA at Rochester is now 2.43. With Tommy Milone sporting a bloated 6.23 ERA with the Twins, it is only a matter of time before Berrios gets the call.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Mariners' Wade Miley: Turns in decent outing at Houston

Miley struck out two and allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks in 6.2 innings Monday at Houston.

Miley got better results than he has recently, as he had gone more than five innings just once in his previous five starts. He dodged a major bullet in the first inning when only one run scored after he loaded the bases on a double, single and walk. All three outs were hit on the screws, and he was fortunate to escape. If Wade LeBlanc continues to pitch well, there's a chance Miley gets bounced from the rotation when Felix Hernandez is ready to return after the All-Star break.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Fans 10 for fourth win Monday

McCullers (4-2) permitted just one run on five hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts over seven innings during Monday's win over the Mariners.

It was McCullers' sharpest outing of the season and the first time this year that he's permitted fewer than three walks during a start. The 22-year-old right-hander will carry a 3.57 ERA into his next scheduled start Saturday against the A's.

  • Orioles' Odrisamer Despaigne: Takes loss Monday

Despaigne allowed three runs on three hits and three walks in 2.1 innings Monday while taking the loss against the Dodgers.

Despaigne had location issues and may have been rattled when the Dodgers moved up the eventual tying run on a balk. Before Monday's outing, Despaigne had allowed just one earned run since being recalled in mid-June. He has likely earned the right to stick around, though the Orioles are known for juggling things at the All-Star break to keep fresh pitchers on the roster.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Will get another start

O'Sullivan will start Friday's game against the Rays, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

It came down to O'Sullivan or Clay Buchholz, and O'Sullivan earned a second start after he carried a shutout into the sixth inning of Sunday's win over the Angels. An additional factor was that manager John Farrell liked the idea of having Buchholz available out of the bullpen a day earlier than O'Sullivan would be available. We're taking this one day at a time with O'Sullivan as the fourth starter, but presuming he pitches well Friday, he'll remain in the rotation following the All-Star break.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Twins' Ricky Nolasco: First quality start since June 18

Nolasco gave up three runs over six innings with four strikeouts and three walks in a no-decision against Oakland on Monday.

Nolasco bounced back after giving up seven earned runs in his last start and ended a poor stretch (21 earned runs in 31 innings) to post his first quality start since June 18. While Nolasco gives up too many hits, he's not getting any help from his bullpen, as they've allowed multiple inherited runs to score in his last two starts.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Strikes out five in first rehab start

Darvish (shoulder) gave up three runs (two earned) over two-plus innings with five strikeouts in his first rehab start Monday for Double-A Frisco.

As shaky as he was, the five strikeouts are a great sign that his arm is healthy and all his pitches are moving like normal. Darvish threw just 42 pitches as the Rangers are easing him into the rehab assignment, which will include at least one more start before he returns to the majors. Expect him to rejoin Texas's rotation shortly after the All-Star break.
