  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Lands on 15-day DL

O'Sullivan was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday with left knee tendinitis, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

This move conveniently opens up a roster spot for Brad Ziegler, who is expected to be activated Sunday. O'Sullivan has struggled in 21.1 innings with the big club this year, but the Red Sox have won in all four of his starts with the offense exploding for 39 runs in those four games. It's entirely possible O'Sullivan will return to a starting role once healthy, but his window to start may shut in a hurry as the Red Sox figure to be in pursuit of rotation help at the trade deadline.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Earns win despite allowing three homers Saturday

Quintana allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Braves.

Quintana (7-8) gave up three homers, but the White Sox offense provided him with five runs of support to help him earn his seventh win of the season. Despite a strong first half, he's now allowed at least four runs in three of his last four outings to raise his ERA to 3.21 on the year. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Allows one run in five innings Saturday

Boyd (0-2) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings, but received no decision Saturday at the Blue Jays.

Boyd gave up his only run in the fifth inning and left the contest with a 2-1 lead, but the bullpen was unable to protect it for him. After getting hammered for 13 runs over his last eight innings of work before being demoted after his June 18 performance, he bounced back nicely in this start and lowered his ERA from 6.44 to 5.77 on the season. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Rain-shortened start Friday

Rodriguez's start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday was shortened due to rain. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three in three innings.

This was Rodriguez's second start for the PawSox since Boston optioned him on June 27. As the Red Sox wrestle to find some stability out of the final two spots in the rotation and consider options outside the organization, getting Rodriguez back to his 2015 form is clearly a priority. The club will give him a few more starts in Triple-A before they consider bringing him back up.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Gets placed on disabled list

Rodon (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a sprained left wrist, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Rodon was placed on the DL retroactive to July 6 after slipping on the dugout steps and bracing his fall with his hand. He should only miss one start and will be eligible to return to the team before their series begins against Detroit on July 21. In a corresponding move, the White Sox called up Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday. Throughout the 2016 season, Rodon has posted a 2-7 record, 4.50 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP during 92 innings of work.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Bounces back with stellar outing versus Yankees

Kluber (9-8) struck out eight while giving up just one earned run on five hits over eight innings in Friday's 10-2 victory over the Yankees.

The former Cy Young winner was masterful while frustrating the Yankees over his eight innings, firing 68 of his 96 pitches for strikes. Kluber had been blasted for five earned runs in just over three innings in his last start against the Blue Jays, so Friday's outing was a welcome return to form. It was Kluber's third quality start in the last four trips to the mound and he's now secured victories in five of his last seven starts.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Turns in serviceable outing in Friday start

O'Sullivan didn't factor into the decision versus the Rays on Friday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.

After 93 pitches over five innings and having seen a 4-2 lead evaporate, manager John Farrell didn't want to push his luck with the erratic O'Sullivan. The veteran righty's performance was serviceable, but he did give up a Brad Miller sacrifice fly and Evan Longoria RBI single in his final inning of work, allowing the Rays to erase a two-run deficit. It remains to be seen if O'Sullivan will hang on to his rotation spot following the All-Star break.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Walks six in loss Friday

Hamels (9-2) allowed five runs on five hits and six walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings, but received no decision Friday against the Twins.

Hamels left with a 5-4 deficit, but the offense picked him up after his departure to take him off the hook for a potential loss. After posting a 1.51 ERA in June, he's allowed 10 runs in 8.1 innings over two July starts to raise his ERA to 3.21 on the year. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out six Friday

Gibson (2-5) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings, but received no decision Friday at the Rangers.

Gibson left the contest with a 5-4 lead, but the bullpen quickly lost the lead in the sixth inning, leading to the no decision. He's only fired one quality start over his last four outings, and he has a 5.02 ERA on the year. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

White Sox's Chris Sale: Hammered for eight runs Friday

Sale (14-3) allowed eight runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Friday against the Braves.

Despite allowing four runs in the first four innings, Sale was still in a 4-4 tie, but he then went on to allow an additional four runs in the fifth inning, leading to his third loss of the year. He's now failed to post a quality start in four of his last seven outings, and his ERA is at 3.38. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.
