  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Struggles for second straight start

Musgrove (1-2) allowed five runs on eight hits over just four innings in Tuesday's loss at Pittsburgh while striking out two without a walk.

The rookie looked impressive in his firth three major league appearances, but has come crashing down to earth with 13 runs allowed in just 9.1 innings over his last two outings. Musgrove will have a good chance to rebound in his next start, as he faces the Athletics at home Monday. While he has been good at Minute Maid Park, it'll be tough to trust him after mixed results through 27.2 innings with the Astros.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Picks up fifth win with six shutout innings

Gausman (5-10) pitched six shutout innings in Tuesday's win over the Nationals, allowing just six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Gausman's lackluster strikeout numbers lagged behind his usual 8.86 K/9 rate, but this was otherwise as good a performance as could be reasonably expected after the right-hander had allowed 16 runs in just 26.2 innings over his previous five starts. He'll now carry a two-game winning streak into Saturday's start at Yankee Stadium.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Will only get a few more starts

Mejia is likely to get only a few more starts at Triple-A Rochester before he's shut down for the season due to a limit of 150 innings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

He's unlikely to be a September callup as a result. He's at 127.1 innings this season between three levels and two organizations. He'll likely enter next spring with a chance to win a spot in the big league rotation.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Shuts out Phillies over 6.2 innings

Rodon (4-8) threw 6.2 shutout innings and allowed just three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in a win Tuesday over the Phillies.

Rodon's quality start streak is now up to four. He has walked just six batters in 24.2 innings over this stretch, a big improvement over his 3.0 BB/9 on the season. Rodon also hasn't allowed a home run over his past four starts after allowing 17 in his first 17 outings. If he can sustain these improvements in control and command, expect this hot streak to continue down the stretch.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Throws simulated game

Rodriguez (hamstring) threw a simulated game Tuesday, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

Rodriguez successfully threw 59 pitches during Tuesday's workout. While this is promising, Boston hasn't indicated when they'll bring him back to live action. Information regarding Rodriguez's return should be known after he's reevaluated Wednesday.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Recalled and starting Tuesday

Walker was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will start against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Walker went just 4-7 with a 4.10 ERA over 17 starts with Seattle before being optioned to Tacoma on Aug. 8. Since being sent down, Walker has pitched three games, posting a 3.60 and 1.33 WHIP over said outings. He's slated to take the mound Tuesday against CC Sabathia and the Yankees. In a corresponding move, Cody Martin was optioned to Tacoma.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Shuts out Athletics for eight innings

Carrasco (9-6) threw eight shutout innings and alloweed just four hits while striking out nine in a win Monday over Oakland.

Carrasco had struck out a brilliant 28 batters over his past three starts but had mediocre results, with 10 earned runs allowed over 20.2 innings (4.35 ERA). Monday, he turned nastiness into results, as he paired 18 swinging strikes with seven ground balls to utterly lock down the Athletics lineup. Carrasco has a 3.12 ERA thanks to some slight inconsistency, but he's one of the league's best pitchers when he's on his game.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Struggles with control in loss

Snell (4-6) lasted just 3.2 innings in a loss to the Red Sox, allowing two runs. He surrendered four hits, walked five, and struck out three.

The rookie lefty has really struggled with his command of late, walking 13 over his last three starts, and lasting just 10.1 total innings as a result. Snell's season began very well, but he may be hitting his wall as he closes in on his career-high in innings pitched. He'll try to find his command Saturday against Houston.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Wins fourth time this month

Bundy (7-4) was back on his game on Monday, holding the Nationals to two runs over six innings. He gave up three hits, walked four, and struck out four.

Bundy rebounded nicely from a rough start to stymie the Nationals on Monday, giving him his fourth win in his last five tries. The four walks were a season-high for Bundy, but he was still able to limit the damage. The young righty has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, finally cashing in on the promise he's shown for so many years. His next start will come Saturday against the Yankees.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Still not throwing

Gray (forearm) has yet to begin throwing, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Gray has been participating in miscellaneous workouts, but isn't throwing at this point in time. However, Gray remains optimistic and says that he hopes he'll be able to pitch again before the season is over. Before injuring his forearm, Gray had been putting together a disappointing 2016 campaign, having gone 5-11 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.
