Chris Sale SP | ATL
Red Sox's Chris Sale: Chased early by Yanks
Sale (15-7) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.1 innings in Sunday's 9-2 loss to the Yankees.
Sale was tagged for three solo home runs, including the first back-to-back job he's ever allowed in the majors. The Yankees worked him over pretty good, getting his pitch count up to 109 before he was lifted. The left-hander's had smooth sailing for most of the season, but he's experienced a drop-off since the calendar flipped to August. Sale has a 4.57 ERA while allowing seven homers over his last seven starts. His performance in 2017 mimics a career pattern of tailing off in the final two months of seasons past; Sale's ERA is under 3.00 from April to July in his career, but it's over 3.00 in August and closes in on 4.00 in September/October. Sale will look to buck that trend when he next takes the hill Saturday at home against the Rays.

Alex Meyer SP | LAA
Angels' Alex Meyer: Officially done for season
The Angels have ruled Meyer (shoulder) out for the rest of the season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
After the Angels transferred him to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Meyer is technically eligible to return in late September, but the team isn't eager to rush the right-hander through the rehab process just to make one or two appearances before the season concludes. Meyer wraps up the 2017 campaign with a 3.74 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 75 strikeouts over 67.1 innings with the big club.

JC Ramirez SP | LAA
Angels' JC Ramirez: Avoids structural damage to elbow
Ramirez was cleared of any structural damage to his strained right elbow after receiving a stem-cell injection last week and will rest up for the next month before being cleared to throw, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
The Angels transferred Ramirez to the 60-day disabled list Friday, so any slim chance the right-hander had of returning this season officially ended with that transaction. He'll turn his focus to healing up ahead of the offseason, but it doesn't look like the injury will cause any major delays to his preparation for spring training. Ramirez, who opened the season as a reliever, ended up converting to starting duties early on in the campaign and proved to be a serviceable cog in any injury-battered rotation, compiling a 4.15 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 147.1 innings.

Andrew Heaney RP | LAD
Angels' Andrew Heaney: Continues to serve up home runs
Heaney (1-1) took the loss Sunday in Texas after allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
Heaney failed to contain one of the league's deadliest home offenses, allowing three home runs in his short outing, including back-to-back shots prior to being pulled with one out in the fourth inning. The lefty has struggled to keep the ball in the park against right-handed hitters, allowing 11 home runs to them while holding batters from the left side without one in 19.1 innings of work over four starts since returning from Tommy John surgery. He'll look to bounce back Saturday in Seattle.

Martin Perez SP | ATL
Rangers' Martin Perez: Wins sixth consecutive start
Perez (11-10) beat the Angels on Sunday after allowing three runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings.
Perez still owns an uninspiring 4.87 ERA but has helped out a Texas team looking to claw its way into a Wild Card spot with wins in each of his past six starts. He'll put that streak on the line Saturday in what should be a high-scoring home contest against the Yankees.

Marcus Stroman SP | NYY
Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Set for Friday start
Stroman (elbow) said via his Twitter feed that he's "good" and will "be ready to rock" for his next start Friday versus Detroit.
The Jays' ace avoided a potentially serious injury when he was struck by a line drive that forced him out of Saturday's game against Baltimore. Stroman was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion, but he's confident there will be no need to skip his turn in the rotation this week.

Lucas Giolito SP | SD
White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Fans 10 Rays in win
Giolito (2-1) allowed a single run on three hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters through seven innings during Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.
The young righty was spot on Sunday and pitched a gem. It was a glimpse at his immense upside, and Giolito has now allowed just a single run through 14 innings over his past two starts. He's unlikely to flawlessly cruise through his remaining starts, but a strong finish to the season appears to already be underway. Giolito should be owned and started in the majority of settings entering his upcoming start against the Giants.

Jordan Montgomery RP | TEX
Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Will start Monday
Montgomery is listed as the Yankees' probable starter for Monday's game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Jaime Garcia was initially in line to start Monday, but with the veteran struggling to the tune of a 5.11 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in his five outings in pinstripes, manager Joe Girardi may have reconsidered his back-end rotation spots count. Since the Yankees are eager to limit Montgomery's innings, the rookie probably won't be a viable replacement for Garcia throughout the final month of the season and could face a limited pitch count in any starts he does make.

Marco Gonzales RP | TEX
Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Could earn another rotation look
Gonzales could receive another trial in the Mariners' rotation after tossing four scoreless innings in relief in Saturday's victory over the Athletics, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
After Yovani Gallardo failed to escape the third inning to put the Mariners in an early hole, Gonzales came up big in his first appearance out of the bullpen, striking out five batters while conceding two hits and no walks as Seattle scored a come-from-behind victory. Though Gonzales submitted an ugly 7.40 ERA and 1.98 WHIP over his previous five starts in August with Seattle, his numbers weren't dramatically worse than what Gallardo has posted in a starting role this season, so the Mariners may be motivated to see if the 25-year-old can demonstrate some improvement in a second trial in the rotation. Manager Scott Servais wouldn't commit to starting Gallardo during the Mariners' series with the Angels next weekend, so the team brass will likely think things over during the next couple of days before determining if Gonzales would be a better option.

Alec Asher SP | MIL
Orioles' Alec Asher: Sent to Double-A
Asher was optioned to Double-A Bowie on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Asher is expected to serve in a starting role for Bowie for the duration of its Eastern League playoff run. Once the postseason concludes, Asher should rejoin the Orioles and work in long relief. The big club recalled Gabriel Ynoa from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move to offer additional depth out of the bullpen while Asher is with Bowie.
