  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Has another strong outing

Morton (3-0) allowed three hits while walking none and striking out eight across seven scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Mariners.

Morton continued his excellent start to the season, dominating the Mariners on Thursday by generating 13 swinging strikes and nine ground balls. Through four starts, Morton has three scoreless outings of at least six innings and struck out more than 10 batters per nine innings. His velocity remains in line with last season, leaving little reason to doubt that Morton will continue to produce quality results.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Orioles' Alex Cobb: Struggles in second straight loss

Cobb (0-2) was hit with the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and one walk across 3.1 innings Thursday against the Tigers. He stuck out four batters.

Cobb's tenure with the Orioles is off to a rocky start, as he's now allowed 15 runs (12 earned) through just seven innings across his first two starts. He's struggled mightily so far this season -- allowing 10 hits and failing to make it out of the fourth inning in both outings -- but he's still likely working out some kinks after signing late in spring training, so things will hopefully turn around as he settles in. Cobb's next start is scheduled for Tuesday against his former team, the Rays.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Second pitcher from class to reach Double-A

Canning surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings in his debut for Double-A Mobile.

After fanning 12 without giving up a run in 8.2 innings through two starts at High-A, Canning was rewarded with a promotion to the Southern League. He joins Braves prospect Kyle Wright as the only starting pitching prospects from last year's draft class to have reached Double-A, and has been a very popular early add in dynasty leagues. Assuming he rebounds from his shaky Double-A debut, he should continue to climb prospect rankings this season.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: Picks up second win over Seattle

Cole (2-0) allowed just one unearned run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts through seven innings to pick up the win Wednesday over the Mariners.

For the first time all season, Cole didn't reach double-digit strikeouts, but it didn't stop him from going seven strong innings for the fourth time in a row. Cole has also yet to allow more than five hits or two runs in any start. The 27-year-old is looking like a steal of an acquisition for the Astros, as he has delivered nothing but ace-level performances to start his Houston career.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Holds Cleveland scoreless

Berrios (2-1) worked seven scoreless innings Wednesday, striking out five and allowing three hits in the win over the Indians. He did not factor into the decision.

Berrios matched zeroes with Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco through seven innings before the bullpens took over in what turned out to be a 16-inning affair. The 23-year-old could've potentially gone deeper, as he sat at just 84 pitches when he came out. It was also the third straight start in which he didn't issue a free pass, putting his K:BB at a ridiculous 29:1. One poor start against Seattle is all that's working against his ratios, though his ERA and WHIP still sit at a minuscule 1.63 and 0.58, respectively. He's gone at least seven shutout innings in his other three starts. Berrios will look to stay hot when he takes the hill Monday against the Yankees.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Turns in stellar outing

Carrasco (3-0) pitched seven shutout innings Wednesday, striking out seven while giving up three hits and a walk in the loss to the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.

Carrasco was brilliant in this one, displaying terrific command with 70 of his 98 pitches going for strikes, and getting ahead on the first pitch against 20 of the 25 batters he faced. After a mediocre first start, the 31-year-old has now gone at least six and allowed no more than two runs in each of his last three starts, compiling an impressive 17:3 K:BB in the process. He'll look to stay sharp his next time out Monday against the Orioles.

  • JC Ramirez SP | LAA

Angels' JC Ramirez: Undergoes successful surgery

Ramirez underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Ramirez will now begin his lengthy recovery process, which will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the 2018 season and part of the 2019 campaign.

  • Alex Faedo SP | TB

Tigers' Alex Faedo: Off to good start at High-A

Faedo is 0-2 through his first three starts with High-A Lakeland despite having a 3.31 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.

Faedo is getting his first taste of professional action after being selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft, and the results have been promising in the early going. The 22-year-old is fairly polished after spending three years with the University of Florida, so he could move through the Detroit system quickly if he continues to pitch well.

  • Matt Manning SP | PHI

Tigers' Matt Manning: Back from minor-league DL

Manning (oblique) was activated from the minor-league disabled list Wednesday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic Detroit reports.

Manning is ready to make his 2018 debut after spending the first few weeks of the season on the shelf with an oblique strain. He'll report back to Low-A West Michigan, where he'll look to improve his command and consistency after posting a 5.60 ERA and 5.6 BB/9 across five starts (17.2 innings) there last season.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Falls to Rays on Wednesday

Hamels (1-3) took the loss against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings while striking out four.

The veteran lefty threw 59 of 86 pitches for strikes, and for the first time this season did not give up a homer, but Hamels still came out on the wrong end of the decision just the same. He'll take a 4.76 ERA into his next start Tuesday at home against the A's.
