Gausman (8-8) earned the win Wednesday over Colorado, allowing a run on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

After giving up a run in the first inning, Gausman settled in and blanked the Rockies over his final six frames, allowing just one additional hit. The veteran right-hander has pitched to a 2.54 ERA in his last eight outings (49.2 innings), going 3-2 with 51 strikeouts in that span. Overall, Gausman's ERA sits at 3.85 this year with a 1.08 WHIP and 135:39 K:BB through 23 starts (135.2 innings). He's currently scheduled to face the Cubs at home his next time out.

Triple-A Omaha reinstated Avila (shoulder) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Avila appears ready to slot back into the Omaha rotation for the first time since late May after missing more than two months while recovering from a right shoulder impingement. The 23-year-old made three rehab appearances for High-A Quad Cities prior to being activated, covering six innings and striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks.

The Royals announced Friday that Ragans (shoulder) remains on track with his throwing progression and has increased his throwing distance off flat ground to 120 feet, MLB.com reports.

Though Ragans seems to be making incremental progress in his recovery from a left rotator cuff strain, he still has yet to resume throwing bullpen sessions since landing on the injured list June 11. Assuming Kansas City is still planning on having Ragans get stretched back out as a starter during his rehab program, he's unlikely to be ready to slot back into the big-league rotation until late August in a best-case scenario.

Rogers (5-2) earned the win against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings.

Rogers threw 73 of a season-high 104 pitches for strikes and managed to work around consistent traffic on the basepaths to keep the Phillies' offense in check. He's now delivered six straight quality starts, allowing just five earned runs over 40.1 innings during that stretch. After spending the first couple months of 2025 in the minors, it's been a resurgent campaign for the 27-year-old, who boasts a 1.44 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 54:15 K:BB across 62.1 innings (10 starts). He'll look to keep rolling in a home matchup with the Mariners next week.

Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Javier (elbow) is in position to make his season debut with the major-league club during its homestand next week, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Javier made his fifth and likely final rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Sugar Land, allowing one run one two hits and four walks while striking out six over 3.2 innings. The right-hander holds a 5.14 ERA and 15:15 K:BB over 14 frames during his rehab assignment and reached 77 pitches Tuesday. Javier could rejoin the Astros' rotation as soon as Monday against the Red Sox. While he makes for a viable stash in fantasy leagues, it might be wise to leave him on your bench initially.

The Astros optioned Blubaugh to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

The transaction comes one day after Blubaugh picked up his first major-league victory, allowing two runs over five frames against the Marlins in a bulk-relief appearance. Blubaugh will rejoin the rotation at Sugar Land and could get another opportunity in the big leagues later this season if the Astros need a starter.

The Astros activated Arrighetti (thumb) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Miami.

The right-hander wound up missing almost exactly four months after suffering a fractured right thumb back in early April. Prior to being activated, Arrighetti held a 5.73 ERA and 11:5 K:BB in 11 innings over three rehab starts between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land. He threw 79 pitches in his final rehab outing with Sugar Land last Thursday, so he'll be in line for a somewhat limited workload Wednesday.

Lorenzen (oblique) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over three innings Tuesday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. He struck out five.

Lorenzen struggled in his first rehab outing Tuesday, surrendering two home runs -- including one to top prospect Walker Jenkins -- as he works his way back from a left oblique strain. Prior to the injury, the veteran had been serviceable but unspectacular, compiling a 4.61 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 99.2 innings in 18 starts. The Royals' rotation remains unsettled with Kris Bubic (shoulder) out for the year and Cole Ragans (shoulder) also sidelined, leading to the recent additions of Bailey Falter and Ryan Bergert, both of whom have already made their team debuts. Lorenzen's role once he's fully healthy will be an interesting storyline to track.

Double-A Chesapeake reinstated Pham (forearm) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Pham will likely slot back into the Chesapeake rotation in the coming days after he completed a two-start rehab assignment and most recently tossed 3.1 scoreless innings for High-A Aberdeen on Saturday. The right-hander previously turned in a 3.42 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 35:9 K:BB across 23.2 innings in five appearances for Chesapeake before landing on the shelf in early May due to forearm inflammation.

Severino (6-11) earned the win Tuesday over the Nationals, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings.

Severino reeled off his fourth straight win after he picked up just one win over eight starts from June 2 through July 11. He tossed three scoreless and was already staked a nine-run lead in the fourth by the time the Nationals finally pushed a run across. Severino has reached six innings in two of his past three starts after doing so only one time in nine starts prior. He lines up to complete a strong two-start week on the road this weekend against the Orioles.
