Manager Bob Melvin said Kaprielian (shoulder) is expected to return from the 10-day injured list to start Sunday against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Kaprielian hit the IL with right shoulder inflammation in late July, but the issue looks like it won't cost him more than one turn in the rotation. That's good news for the Athletics, as righty allowed six runs in his most recent start but had allowed no more than three runs in any of his previous eight outings and owns a 3.24 ERA on the year.

Schmidt (elbow) tossed 2.2 innings for Double-A Somerset on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four batters. He is expected to pitch again in five days, per Max Goodman of SI.com.

Schmidt continues to progress from a right elbow strain that has wiped out his entire season thus far. Per Goodman, his next rehab outing will likely again be for the Double-A club, though it's possible that he is moved up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre instead. All signs point to Schmidt being ready to make his major-league season debut by the end of the month.

Rasmussen (1-1) earned the win Friday against the Orioles after allowing one run on five hits and a walk across 2.1 innings, striking out one.

Rasmussen allowed contact all game long but still limited the damage to just one run, and that was enough to hand him his first win of the campaign. The right-hander has given up runs in four of his last six outings, though, and he owns a 4.41 ERA -- as well as a 1.41 WHIP -- in eight appearances since the beginning of July.

Gonzales didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Yankees despite tossing 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while fanning five.

Gonzales might have ended with a no-decision for the second straight start, but he delivered another strong outing to extend his streak of excellent appearances. He has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts and has gone 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in that stretch. He also has two quality starts in that span.

Houck was recalled by the Red Sox ahead of his scheduled start in the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Houck will be up as merely the 27th man for the twin bill, so it's possible he returns to the minors at the end of the day. His last three outings have all come at the big-league level, however, and he's allowed just one earned run in 11.2 innings while striking out 18 batters over that stretch, so the Red Sox have plenty of reason to keep him around.

Wells (wrist) is not expected to be activated from the injured list until next week, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Wells suffered a setback with soreness in his injured right wrist earlier in the week. The right-hander played catch Friday, but he'll need to clear a few more hurdles without trouble before he can be considered good to go.

Means allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings in a no-decision versus Tampa Bay on Friday.

The left-hander's eight hits allowed were a season high, but Tampa Bay didn't find much success until Means was out of the game. He's started to round back into form after initially struggling once he came off the injured list in July. Baltimore's ace has a 2.79 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84:16 K:BB through 93.2 innings. He's projected for an easier matchup versus Detroit next week.

Winn allowed one hit and one walk while striking out eight over 5.1 scoreless innings for Double-A Frisco.

Winn lowered his season ERA to 2.59, second in the Double-A Central league, to go along with an 11.2 K/9 rate. After a rocky introduction to professional baseball in 2019 and a missing year due to the pandemic, Winn has restored the luster of being a 2018 first-round draft pick. The right-hander, who pitched in the All-Star Futures game, has a 2.445 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over 66 innings.

Quantrill (3-2) picked up the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over the Tigers, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out a career-high 10 without walking a batter.

He retired 15 straight batters at one point, and Detroit only managed to get one runner into scoring position against Quantrill. While the quality of the opposition has to be taken into consideration with Friday's outstanding performance, there's no denying Quantrill has turned a corner. The right-hander has reeled off four straight quality starts, and since the beginning of July he sports a 1.96 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB through 41.1 innings.

Manning (2-5) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on 10 hits over four innings as the Tigers were downed 6-1 by Cleveland. He struck out three without walking a batter.

There were some positives for the rookie, as he kept the ball in the yard and didn't issue a free pass -- the first time he's done both in a start in the majors -- but in general it was another poor showing for Manning. He'll carry a 6.33 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 23:13 K:BB through 42.2 innings into his next outing.
