Lorenzen's availability for his scheduled start Friday in Baltimore is up in the air due to a physical issue, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The 30-year-old surrendered eight runs (seven earned) over three innings during his last start July 1, though it's unclear when the unspecified issue first surfaced. Reid Detmers has joined the Angels on the taxi squad and is poised to start Friday should Lorenzen be unable to take the mound.

Kaprielian tossed six innings, giving up one run on five hits and four walks while striking out one in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

Kaprielian held the Blue Jays in check Wednesday, limiting the damage to just a leadoff Matt Chapman solo homer in the seventh inning that ultimately ended his day on the mound. The 28-year-old has now produced back-to-back quality starts after failing to generate any in his first 11 outings of the campaign. Over his last four starts, Kaprielian has compiled a 2.78 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 22.2 innings. He now owns a 5.06 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 41 punchouts over 64 frames in 13 starts this year.

Ryan allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three across four innings Wednesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan limited damage effectively for most of his outing, but he allowed multiple baserunners in three of his four innings. That resulted in a short start -- he needed 85 pitches to record 12 outs -- that was ultimately spoiled by a two-run homer by Eloy Jimenez. Ryan has been inconsistent across five starts since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, maintaining a 4.47 ERA with a 21:6 K:BB across 26.2 innings.

Berrios pitched six innings, surrendering one run on four hits and a walk while striking out six in Wednesday's win over the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.

Berrios was very effective in this one, tossing five scoreless innings to open the outing. The only blemish on his line came in the bottom of the sixth inning via a solo homer by Ramon Laureano. Berrios has now produced two strong starts in a row following two clunkers, giving up three runs over 11 innings while striking out nine. The 28-year-old is tentatively set to pitch again Tuesday against the Phillies.

Sale (rib) worked 3.2 innings Wednesday in his rehab start for Triple-A Worcester, striking out five while allowing one earned run on three hits and five walks.

Heading into the night, Sale was targeting a 4-to-5-inning appearance for the fourth start of his rehab assignment, but the five free passes foiled those plans. Even so, Sale still managed to get stretched out a bit more, as he tossed 72 pitches (42 strikes) Wednesday after throwing 52 pitches in his previous outing. Though Sale's results were less than ideal, the Red Sox may still be comfortable enough bringing him back from the 60-day injured list after a lengthy layoff. He could be activated as soon as Monday's series opener in Tampa Bay.

Bieber (3-5) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six across 5.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against Detroit.

Bieber gave up a pair of runs in the second inning but appeared to settle in from there. However, he allowed three runs to cross the plate in the fifth frame to sink his day. Bieber has struggled a bit of late, managing only a 15:7 K:BB across his last three starts while surrendering 11 earned runs in the span of 18.2 innings. Despite that, he has still managed a quality start in two of those three outings and has a 3.44 ERA for the season.

Allard was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Allard was demoted to Round Rock in mid-June and will return to the majors after allowing three earned runs and striking out 14 in 9.1 frames in the minors. The left-hander has appeared in seven games for the Rangers this year and has a 5.06 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 16 innings.

Hill (knee) threw off flat ground Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Hill was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday, and it was encouraging to see him throw shortly after sustaining his injury. He said that his knee felt good following his throwing session, and it seems as though he's trending toward a relatively brief IL stint.

Montas was diagnosed with inflammation but no structural damage to his right shoulder after undergoing an MRI on Tuesday, but he won't be available to make his next turn through Oakland's rotation, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Due to an off day Thursday, the Athletics wouldn't have to replace Montas in the rotation until the second game of their series with the Rangers next week. For now, Montas looks like he'll avoid a trip to the injured list, though those plans could change if his shoulder doesn't respond as well as hoped to the cortisone shot he received Wednesday. Montas tentatively lines up to return to the rotation for the Athletics' final series of the first half next weekend in Houston. Through his first 17 starts this season, Montas has compiled a 3.26 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 100:24 K:BB in 96.2 innings, but he's been saddled with a 3-9 record due largely to poor support from his offense.

Gausman (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to start Thursday's series opener with the Mariners, though he hasn't been ruled out from pitching Sunday's series finale in Seattle, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Gausman's inability to throw a bullpen session Tuesday likely closed the door on him starting Thursday, but he hasn't been shut down entirely, as he's expected to play catch Wednesday. The Blue Jays will evaluate Gausman during the workout before potentially allowing him to throw off a mound Thursday or Friday, which would keep him in the mix to start Sunday, according to Davidi. Casey Lawrence was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, and if he's not needed in relief in the Blue Jays' series finale in Oakland, he would likely be the top candidate to fill in for Gausman on Thursday, per Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star.
