Mahle (6-7) earned the win Friday versus the Angels. He pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six.

After getting tagged for three home runs versus Toronto in his Twins debut, Mahle put together a much more convincing encore against the Angels. This was his third quality start in his last four outings, with all three of those positive performances producing wins. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 4.26 with a 1.21 WHIP and 125:42 K:BB through 116.1 innings between the Twins and the Reds this year. He'll look to build off this effort next week in an enticing projected home start versus the Royals.

Sandoval (3-8) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four in five innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Twins.

The Angels' offense mustered just seven baserunners, giving Sandoval no run support. He still had his own problems, walking a tied-for-season-high four batters for the second start in a row and the fourth time in 19 outings this year. He also gave up a two-run home run to Gilberto Celestino in the second inning. Sandoval has a decent 3.42 ERA, but his 1.49 WHIP and 106:49 K:BB through 100 innings this year are concerning marks. The lefty has gone 12 straight starts without a win, a streak he'll try to snap in a projected road start in Detroit next week.

German allowed one run on five hits in six innings Friday against the Red Sox, striking out four while walking two. He did not factor into the decision.

German had a runner reach second base in three of the first four frames, but the only run he allowed was on a J.D. Martinez single in the fourth inning. He faced the minimum over his final two innings to complete his longest start of the year. After missing the first half of the year with a shoulder injury and getting off to a slow start upon his return, he's now had three straight solid outings, allowing a total of four runs over that stretch.

Kopech struck out 11 batters through six no-hit innings in Friday's win over Detroit. He walked three and did not factor in the decision.

Kopech was untouchable Friday but settled for a no-decision due to his offense's slow start. It was his first double-digit strikeout performance of the year and he forced a season-high 22 whiffs. The 26-year-old completed six innings for the second time since the start of July and lowered his season ERA to 3.18 through 104.2 frames. Kopech is projected to take on the Astros at home next week.

Whitlock (3-2) pitched the final two innings of Friday's 10-inning win over the Yankees, striking out three and walking one while not allowing a hit or a run.

Whitlock entered with the Red Sox down one in the top of the ninth and retired the side in order. Boston tied the game in the bottom of the inning, and Whitlock remained on the mound to start extras, walking Aaron Judge to start the frame before getting three consecutive outs. Tommy Pham's walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th gave Whitlock and the Red Sox a win. It was his sixth straight multi-inning outing.

Eovaldi allowed two runs on eight hits across six innings of work in a no-decision Friday against the Yankees, striking out three while walking two.

Eovaldi's 11.6 percent strikeout rate in the outing wasn't particularly encouraging, but he worked out of enough jams to keep the Red Sox competitive in a game they'd eventually win. Seven of his 10 baserunners and both of his runs allowed came in the first three frames, but he settled down after that and exited with his team down 2-1. It hasn't been a great season for Eovaldi, whose ERA sits at 4.15, but he's at least thrown at least six innings in four straight outings, posting a 3.70 ERA over that stretch. He'll look to keep that run going next week against the Pirates.

Kluber (7-7) yielded seven runs on 10 hits and a walk over 5.2 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against Baltimore.

Kluber gave up a solo home run to Adley Rutschman in the first inning but most of the damage against him didn't come until the sixth. The veteran righty was charged with four runs in the frame, including one after he was removed from the contest. Kluber has given up at least three runs in five straight starts, posting an unsightly 6.91 ERA during that stretch. He'll carry a 4.40 ERA into his projected road start against the Yankees next week.

Lorenzen (shoulder) has been throwing bullpen sessions without issues, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Lorenzen has been out with a shoulder strain since early July, and his placement on the 60-day injured list last week means he'll be ineligible to return before early September. He doesn't appear to be advanced enough in his rehab to beat that timetable, but it's a positive that he's taking steps in the right direction.

Skubal is visiting a specialist in Los Angeles on Monday to check on his elbow and isn't on track to return this season, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Skubal was placed on the 60-day injured list Friday, which technically left him enough time to return at the tail end of the season, but it's now official that he won't pitch again in 2022. The lefty's initial diagnosis was merely arm fatigue, but a significantly more serious issue appears to be in play. Whether or not his absence will stretch into next season could become clear after Monday's evaluation.

Severino (lat) will throw a bullpen session Monday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Severino has been out with a strained right lat since mid-July. He won't return for over a month, as he's been placed on the 60-day injured list, but it's nevertheless a clear positive to see him getting back on a mound.
