High-A West Michigan scratched Jobe from his scheduled start Wednesday due to a sore back, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft won't be making his High-A debut after he apparently slept wrong on his back overnight, but the Tigers are optimistic that Jobe will be able to take the hill later this weekend, according to director of player development Ryan Garko. Prior to receiving a promotion to West Michigan, Jobe compiled a 4.52 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 71:25 K:BB across 61.2 innings at Single-A Lakeland.

Schmidt (5-2) earned the win over the Mets on Tuesday, allowing three hits and issuing three walks over three scoreless innings. He did not strike out any batters.

Schmidt entered the contest in the top of the sixth inning and retired Mark Canha with a runner on second base to keep the game tied. He allowed three baserunners over the following two frames but kept the Mets off the scoreboard, and he appeared poised to finish off the contest after retiring the first two batters he faced in the ninth. Schmidt then allowed the next three hitters to reach base and was replaced by Wandy Peralta, who got the final out for a save. The outing was in line with how Schmidt has been deployed this season -- he's made only one start but has thrown three or more innings in five of 17 appearances and has tossed more than one frame in 11 different outings. Schmidt has been effective during his time in the majors this season, registering a 2.18 ERA and 1.24 WHIP while picking up five wins and two saves over 33 innings.

Toussaint retired two batters and was charged with two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 11-1 loss to the Rays.

Though Angels interim manager Phil Nevin never made a formal announcement that Toussaint was removed from the rotation, it became evident that the right-hander would head to the bullpen when Mike Mayers was named the starter for Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay. Toussaint's demotion from the starting role came after he was blitzed for four earned runs on three hits and four walks over 2.2 innings his last time out Aug. 17 against the Mariners.

Stripling (6-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 9-3 victory over the Red Sox, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

Boston got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, but Toronto erased the deficit and then some with an eight-run eruption in the top of the third, and Stripling didn't allow a runner to get past second base from there. The right-hander has delivered back-to-back quality starts since returning from an IL stint that cost him the first half of August, and in 12 trips to the mound since rejoining the rotation in early June, he sports a sparkling 2.14 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 51:8 K:BB through 63 innings.

Montas didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mets, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

It was the right-hander's best performance yet since being dealt by Oakland at the trade deadline, although Montas is still looking for his first win and first quality start in pinstripes. In four starts since joining the Yankees, the 29-year-old has a 7.32 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB through 19.2 innings.

Dunning gave up four earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking our four over five innings in a 7-6 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Dunning was hurt by the long ball in his interleague appearance at Coors Field as Elias Diaz took him deep for a three-run shot in the second. Dunning's ERA ticked up to 4.19 with the 72-pitch start, although he has pitched to a respectable 3.63 ERA over four starts in August. The 27-year-old right-hander is tentatively expected to make his next start at home against Cy Young candidate Justin Verlander and the division-rival Astros,

Verlander (16-3) did not give up a hit, walk or run in six innings of work to earn the win in a 4-2 victory over the Twins on Tuesday. He struck out 10.

Verlander continued his Cy Young-caliber campaign with six innings of no-hit ball and ultimately retired 18 of the 19 batters he faced. What's more, the only hitter to reach base against him was Nick Gordon off a wild pitch on a third strike in the second inning. Verlander will look to move into sole possession of the major-league lead in wins in his next expected start at Texas.

Civale allowed a run on four hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out four in 4.2 innings, taking a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.

Civale wasn't very efficient Tuesday, throwing just 50 of 95 pitches for strikes. He was relieved by Nick Sandlin for the final out of the fifth inning, denying Civale a chance at his first win since May 20. The right-hander has allowed four runs across 14.2 innings through three starts since returning from a wrist injury. He has a 5.37 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB through 68.2 innings across 15 starts overall. Civale is projected for a road start in Seattle this weekend.

Ray (10-8) allowed a run on two hits and two walks while striking out seven in 6.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Nationals.

Ray carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, though that ended with Joey Meneses' leadoff solo home run. That was the only run against Ray in a dominant outing against a weak Nationals team. The southpaw has turned in four straight quality starts in August after a pair of ugly starts versus the Astros to close out July. For the season, he has a 3.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 173:53 K:BB through 148.2 innings across 25 starts. Ray is expected to make his next start this weekend versus the Guardians.

Manager Alex Cora said Bello (groin) will be activated off the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The 23-year-old landed on the shelf Aug. 4 with a strained left groin, and he'll rejoin Boston's rotation after a two-start rehab stint in the minors. Bello covered 4.1 frames in his last rehab outing and has an 8.47 ERA across five big-league appearances this season. The rookie could be used in conjunction with veteran lefty Rich Hill.
