Civale allowed a run on four hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out four in 4.2 innings, taking a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.

Civale wasn't very efficient Tuesday, throwing just 50 of 95 pitches for strikes. He was relieved by Nick Sandlin for the final out of the fifth inning, denying Civale a chance at his first win since May 20. The right-hander has allowed four runs across 14.2 innings through three starts since returning from a wrist injury. He has a 5.37 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB through 68.2 innings across 15 starts overall. Civale is projected for a road start in Seattle this weekend.

Ray (10-8) allowed a run on two hits and two walks while striking out seven in 6.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Nationals.

Ray carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, though that ended with Joey Meneses' leadoff solo home run. That was the only run against Ray in a dominant outing against a weak Nationals team. The southpaw has turned in four straight quality starts in August after a pair of ugly starts versus the Astros to close out July. For the season, he has a 3.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 173:53 K:BB through 148.2 innings across 25 starts. Ray is expected to make his next start this weekend versus the Guardians.

Manager Alex Cora said Bello (groin) will be activated off the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The 23-year-old landed on the shelf Aug. 4 with a strained left groin, and he'll rejoin Boston's rotation after a two-start rehab stint in the minors. Bello covered 4.1 frames in his last rehab outing and has an 8.47 ERA across five big-league appearances this season. The rookie could be used in conjunction with veteran lefty Rich Hill.

Cease (12-6) took the loss Tuesday in Baltimore, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings.

Cease struggled with his command throughout the outing and tossed just 50 of his 93 pitches for strikes. Baltimore got off to a fast start against the righty as Ryan Mountcastle knocked a three-run homer in the first. Following the homer, Cease retired 13 of the next 14 batters he faced before the Orioles tacked on another run in the sixth. After allowing one earned run or fewer in 14 straight starts, Cease has allowed seven earned runs in 10.1 innings over his last two starts.

Kluber (8-7) earned the win after he tossed six innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out three in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

Kluber pitched five scoreless frames before Mike Trout took him deep for a solo shot in the top of the sixth, accounting for the only blemish on the right-hander's line Tuesday. The 36-year-old has now registered two consecutive quality starts after he got blown up for seven runs Aug. 12 versus the Orioles. Kluber now owns a 4.20 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 114 strikeouts over 128.2 innings in 24 outings this year.

Suarez (4-6) was charged with a loss Tuesday after he pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out five versus the Rays.

Suarez surrendered two runs in bottom of the third frame before being chased from the game with one out in the sixth inning after he gave up a solo homer to Isaac Paredes and a single to Taylor Walls. The left-hander has now allowed six runs on 12 hits over 10.2 innings in his last two starts after he had produced three consecutive scoreless outings prior. Since July 26, Suarez has compiled a 1.93 ERA over five starts, lowering his season-long ERA to 4.19 over 73 innings in 16 outings.

Manager Alex Cora indicated Bello (groin) could be activated off the 15-day injured list to pitch Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Boston hasn't officially named a starter for Wednesday, but Bello and veteran Rich Hill are expected to start and piggyback in some configuration. Bello made his major-league debut in early July and has an 8.47 ERA, 2.29 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB in 17 innings across his first five appearances.

Single-A Charleston reinstated Wilcox (elbow) from its 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Wilcox has been cleared to join Charleston for the first time in 2022 after recently wrapping up a three-appearance rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. The right-hander had been on the shelf all season while recovering from the Tommy John surgery he required last September.

Houck (back) threw off flat ground Tuesday and felt good following the session, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Houck appears poised to avoid surgery to address the disc injury in his back, something that looked to be a real possibility as recently as last week. He'll start building up in the coming days, and Boston manager Alex Cora hopes the right-hander can pitch by the end of the season.

Glasnow (elbow) threw his second live batting practice session Tuesday and will face hitters once more before likely beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Glasnow reiterated after Tuesday's workout that his surgically repaired right elbow feels good, and he remains optimistic that he'll return from the 60-day injured list this season. According to Topkin, Glasnow's fastball topped out at around 97 miles per hour Tuesday, and while he appears to have recaptured his pre-surgery velocity, regaining command of all of his pitches may prove to be the greater challenge. If Glasnow does meet his goal of pitching for the Rays in 2022, it'll almost certainly come as a reliever, given that he doesn't seem to have enough time at this stage of the season to build up as a starter.
