  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Likely starting Game 2 Tuesday

Chirinos was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and will likely start the second game of the doubleheader in Toronto, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

He is up as the 29th man, so Chirinos will likely either start or work as the primary pitcher in Game 2 and then be bumped off the active roster. Chirinos tossed three scoreless innings while striking out four and allowing five baserunners in three innings last week against the Red Sox in his lone MLB appearance of the season.

  • Framber Valdez SP | DET

Astros' Framber Valdez: Fires complete-game gem

Valdez (15-5) allowed six hits and a walk during a complete-game shutout Monday, striking out eight and earning a win over Detroit.

Aside from a small jam in the first inning, Valdez didn't face much of a threat during his dominant victory. The 28-year-old southpaw tossed 72 of 107 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs. He allowed three or fewer earned runs for the 24th consecutive start and lowered his season ERA to a stellar 2.50 with a 169:61 K:BB through 179.2 frames. He's struck out at least eight batters in four straight outings. Valdez is scheduled to start in Tampa Bay in his next outing.

  • Reid Detmers SP | LAA

Angels' Reid Detmers: Tagged with four runs

Detmers yielded four runs on six hits and two walks over five frames against Cleveland on Monday. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.

Detmers was cursed by a brutal second inning in which he allowed all four runs, including a two-run double by Austin Hedges. Shoddy infield defense and a couple blatant misses by the home plate umpire didn't help matters. The 23-year-old lefty saw his season ERA climb to 3.82 alongside a 108:43 K:BB through 22 starts. After yielding two or fewer runs in six straight outings, Detmers has given up four runs in three of his last four starts. He's projected to face Seattle at home next week.

  • Tigers' Eduardo Rodriguez: Takes fifth loss

Rodriguez (3-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits across five innings to take the loss Monday against the Astros. He walked one and struck out two.

Houston has a stacked lineup and it made Rodriguez work, as the lefty allowed a season-high 10 hits. Rodriguez was better in his last start, allowing just three runs across seven innings, but this is the second time in his last three outings allowing five or more runs. All told, the 29-year-old now has a 4.50 ERA across 66 innings this season. Rodriguez will look for better results his next time out, which is currently scheduled for Saturday against the White Sox.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rangers' Jon Gray: Activated prior to start

Gray (oblique) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Monday's start against the Marlins.

Gray has been sidelined since the start of August due to an oblique injury, but he'll return to the mound as the starter during the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Miami. The right-hander didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being activated, so it's unclear whether he'll face any workload restrictions during Monday's nightcap.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Headed back to Triple-A

Rodriguez (lat) has completed his rehab assignment and will return from Triple-A Norfolk's 60-day injured list during the upcoming weekend and slot back into the affiliate's rotation, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

The 22-year-old right-hander was on the shelf for three months with a right lat strain before he began his rehab assignment Sept. 1 at High-A Aberdeen. He proceeded to move up to Double-A Bowie for his last two rehab starts, covering 4.2 innings between those outings while striking out 11 batters. Rodriguez's workload will likely be monitored carefully at Triple-A the rest of the way, but he could still be a candidate for a promotion to the big leagues over the final few weeks of the season if Baltimore remains in contention for a wild-card spot.

  • Athletics' James Kaprielian: In line for Thursday's start

Kaprielian is slated to start Thursday against the Astros at Minute Maid Park after being scratched from his last start Friday due to a cut on his middle finger, the Associated Press reports.

The right-hander apparently suffered the injury when hitting his finger against a wall while putting on his shirt, but a few days off for healing will apparently do the trick. When he presumably takes the hill against Houston, Kaprielian will be looking to bounce back from consecutive rocky starts where he allowed a combined 13 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits and seven walks across 8.1 innings vs. the Yankees and Nationals.

  • Cole Ragans RP | KC

Rangers' Cole Ragans: Drawing another start

Ragans is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics at Globe Life Field.

Ragans returned to action last week following a brief stint on the 15-day injured list with a calf strain, pitching three scoreless frames in a start in Houston on Sept. 7. Because he didn't head out on a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand, Ragans tossed only 49 pitches in the outing, and he could be limited to around the 60-to-75-pitch range this week when he makes his second straight turn through the rotation.

  • Tyler Wells RP | TB

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Staying in rotation

Wells is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Washington.

Though he covered just two innings in his return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 7 against the Blue Jays, Wells looks like he'll continue to get progressively stretched out in his subsequent turns through the rotation. After his 34-pitch appearance last week, Wells probably can't be expected to toss more than 50-to-60 pitches Wednesday, making him a rather unappealing fantasy option in weekly leagues even in a favorable matchup.

  • Cole Irvin RP | LAD

Athletics' Cole Irvin: Earns win with quality start

Irvin (8-11) gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over seven innings to earn the win in a 10-3 victory over the White Sox on Sunday.

Irvin bounced back with a quality start after getting shelled for nine runs his last time out against Atlanta. The left-hander looked in control throughout the start and never found himself in much serious trouble. Irvin has been good at minimizing baserunners this season and boasts a WHIP of 1.10 in 159.1 innings pitched. He is tentatively expected to make his next start in a tough divisional matchup at Houston.
