Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that German is likely to rejoin the rotation at some point during the team's four-game series against the Red Sox during the upcoming week with Frankie Montas (shoulder) likely heading to the injured list, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

In anticipation of Luis Severino's (lat) return from the 60-day IL on Wednesday, German was moved to the bullpen for the Yankees' series in Milwaukee this past weekend. He struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings in relief in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Brewers, which ended up functioning as more of a bullpen day for the Yankees after Montas departed his start midway through the fourth inning due to shoulder discomfort. Montas later underwent an MRI, and while the team hasn't provided an update on the extent of his injury, he'll have a tough time gaining clearance before the end of the regular season. His expected absence paves the way for German to recapture a spot at the back end of the rotation.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed over the weekend that Severino (lat) will return from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's home game against the Pirates, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Severino, who has been on the IL since mid-July with a right lat strain, will get the green light to rejoin the rotation following a three-start rehab assignment. In his most recent outing Thursday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Severino struck out six over 4.1 innings while allowing two runs on four hits and one walk. The 28-year-old tossed 57 pitches in that rehab start, so the Yankees could keep him around the 70-to-80-pitch range when he steps back into the big-league rotation this week.

Valdez (16-5) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Sunday.

Valdez tossed a complete-game shutout Monday against Detroit but threw just 87 pitches against Oakland on Sunday, marking just the second time that he hasn't thrown at least 100 pitches over his last 10 starts. However, the southpaw remained dominant and got plenty of run support from the Astros' offense to cruise to his seventh win over his last eight outings. Valdez has been incredibly consistent this season and set a major-league record Sunday by posting his 25th consecutive quality start. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Baltimore on Saturday.

Waldichuk (0-2) allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings to take the loss during Sunday's game against the Astros.

Waldichuk began Sunday's matchup by retiring six of the first seven batters he faced over the first two innings of the game, but he allowed plenty of baserunners in the bottom of the third inning before being pulled with two outs in the frame. He's now given up at least three runs in each of his last three starts, and Sunday's outing marked the first time that he hasn't lasted at least 4.2 innings over his first four big-league appearances. The southpaw has posted a 7.13 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 17.2 innings over four starts with Oakland and projects to make his next start at home against the Mets on Saturday.

Cole (12-7) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight in five innings to earn the win over the Brewers on Sunday.

Cole gave up four runs over the first two innings Sunday, and his start against the Brewers was just the fifth time this season that he's failed to last at least six innings. However, he got plenty of run support from the Yankees' offense during Sunday's 12-8 victory and picked up his third win over his last five starts. The right-hander has struck out at least eight batters in four of those five outings and has posted a 3.38 ERA and 47:10 K:BB in 32 innings across that span. Cole tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Bubic (2-13) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against Boston.

Bubic gave up one run in each of the first two frames before he was tagged with three runs in the third inning. He's gone 0-7 with a brutal 7.83 ERA over his last seven starts. That poor stretch has driven his season ERA up to 5.81 alongside a 96:58 K:BB through 119.1 innings. Bubic is expected to face the Mariners at home next week.

Springs (9-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out six in 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Sunday.

Springs held the opposition scoreless over his first three outings in September, but he was slightly less effective during Sunday's start. However, the southpaw still picked up his third win over his last four appearances. He's posted a 0.89 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 20.1 innings over four starts this month and tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Velasquez allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four in four innings during Sunday's win over the Tigers. He didn't factor into the decision.

Although the White Sox planned for a bullpen game Sunday, Velazquez gave the team decent length by tossing 62 pitches (42 strikes) over four innings. However, he was forced to settle for the no-decision since most of the team's offensive production came after his departure. Over five appearances (one start) since the start of September, the right-hander has posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in nine innings. Velazquez will likely head back to the bullpen following Sunday's outing.

Gonzales (10-14) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Angels.

Gonzales was undone by the long ball -- he gave up two home runs to Luis Rengifo and one to Livan Soto. This was the second time in three starts Gonzales has given up multiple homers, though it's just the seventh time he's done that in 29 starts for the year. The poor start ticked his ERA up to 4.01 with a 1.32 WHIP and 92:47 K:BB through 166 innings this season. The 30-year-old southpaw is lined up for a favorable road start in Kansas City for his next turn.

Detmers (6-5) allowed a run on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out three in six innings to earn the win Sunday over the Mariners.

Detmers was able to limit the Mariners to an Adam Frazier RBI single in the second inning. Detmers hadn't completed six frames in any of his last five starts. The 23-year-old southpaw's strong start lowered his ERA to 3.71 with a 1.20 WHIP and 111:45 K:BB through 119 innings across 23 starts. He's lined up for a road start in Minnesota next weekend.
