Brown (6-7) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits over 5.1 innings against the Rockies. He struck out seven.

Brown got into trouble quickly Tuesday, allowing a leadoff single to Jurickson Profar and then serving up back-to-back long balls to Kris Bryant and Ryan McMahon. However, the 24-year-old bounced back from the rough first inning and subsequently tossed 4.1 frames of one-run baseball. Though Brown has been a strong source of strikeouts (10.69 K/9) he's surrendered multiple home runs on four different occasions this season and has struggled over his last five outings (7.13 ERA in 24 innings). He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come against the Athletics at Oakland Coliseum.

Skubal allowed seven runs on eight hits across four innings but did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Royals. He walked one and struck out three.

Skubal had his first rough outing in three appearances so far this season. The lefty returned earlier this month following a long rehab from flexor tendon surgery. He pitched exactly four innings in each of his first two starts and didn't allow any runs, but it was a different story Tuesday. Some rust is to be expected from Skubal, and the most important thing is that he's able to head into 2024 fully healthy, so the Tigers will likely continue to carefully monitor his workload. Skubal is penciled in to start again Sunday against the Padres.

Allen (4-2) earned the win Tuesday, allowing just one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings in a 10-1 victory over Pittsburgh. He struck out eight.

It was an excellent showing from Allen after he posted mixed results in his first MLB stint this year. The rookie left-hander lowered his ERA to a solid 3.21 with a 1.37 WHIP and 71:25 K:BB through his first 13 starts (67.1 innings). Allen should see an extended look in Cleveland's rotation while Shane Bieber (elbow) and Cal Quantrill (shoulder) are sidelined. He's currently lined up to face the Phillies this weekend in his next outing.

Whitlock (elbow) played catch Monday, Mike Monaco of ESPN reports.

Whitlock reportedly felt "great" after throwing for the first time since he landed on the injured list July 4. He still has a long way to go in his rehab process, but it's a good sign to see him trending upward. Whitlock put up a 5.23 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 51.2 frames before suffering a bone bruise in his right elbow.

Rucinski (knee/back) is set to undergo season-ending back surgery, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Rucinski was already on the 60-day injured list with a multitude of ailments including a left knee injury and he'll now see his 2023 campaign come to a premature ending. The right-hander will finish the season with a 9.00 ERA and 2.28 WHIP with six strikeouts over 18 innings in four starts with the Athletics.

Clevinger (biceps) is slated for a three-up, three-down bullpen session Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It will come after a successful bullpen session Sunday during which Clevinger said it's the hardest he's throwing in a 'pen session since spring training. While it's unclear whether he will require a rehab assignment first, Clevinger appears to be trending in the right direction. He's been out since mid-June with right biceps inflammation.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that the team remains hopeful Gausman (side) can make a start this weekend in Seattle, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Gausman had to be scratched from his last scheduled outing Saturday against the Diamondbacks due to left side discomfort, but he is feeling better and moving in a positive direction. As things stand right now, the right-hander is expected to avoid the injured list and could take the ball as soon as Friday.

Ryu (elbow) is slated to throw at least 80 pitches with Triple-A Buffalo on Friday in what is expected to be his final rehab start, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Ryu's fastball has sat in the 87-88 mph range during his first three rehab outings, which is down just a bit from what he was throwing pre-Tommy John surgery. The Blue Jays aren't concerned about the southpaw's velocity, though, and they expect it to tick back up. Ryu has permitted just two runs with an 11:0 K:BB across 12 innings in his first three rehab starts. He's a good stash in leagues where he's still available.

Allen was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

The left-hander will make his return to the Guardians' rotation Tuesday against the Pirates, taking the rotation spot vacated by Shane Bieber (elbow). Allen pitched well in his first go-round in the big leagues earlier this season, collecting a 3.47 ERA and 63:24 K:BB over 62.1 innings of work covering 12 starts. The southpaw went just three innings in each of his two starts after being sent back to Columbus, so he might not be ready for a full workload in Pittsburgh.

Kent (oblique) made a rehab start Saturday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, giving up no hits and one walk over two scoreless innings while striking out four.

After tossing three scoreless innings in his season debut for Triple-A Round Rock on April 4, Kent was shut down for more than three months with what was apparently a significant oblique strain. The 25-year-old right-hander is now in the process of getting stretched back out again, and he may only need one or two more starts in the lower levels of the minors before setting back into the Round Rock rotation.
