Lyles (1-12) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings against the Yankees. He struck out three.

The Yankees jumped on Lyles early, scoring four runs on five hits in the opening inning. While Lyles was able to settle in a bit, allowing just one run over his final four frames, the Royals couldn't overcome the early deficit, tagging Lyles with his league-high 12th loss. The 32-year-old right-hander has struggled to a 6.19 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 76:32 K:BB through 19 starts (107.2 innings) this season. Lyles is currently lined up to face the Twins at home in his next outing.

Ryu (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in Los Angeles on Monday or Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The upcoming side session will likely serve as a final check of Ryu's health before the Blue Jays bring him back from the 60-day injured list. After working six innings in his fourth and likely final rehab start Friday at Triple-A Buffalo, Ryu would be available to return from the IL on Wednesday against the Dodgers, but the Blue Jays are instead expected to save him for their series with the Angels next weekend. With Friday's game versus the Angels kicking off a stretch of 17 games in 17 days, Ryu could be part of a modified six-man Toronto rotation once he's activated.

Severino (2-4) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings against the Royals. He struck out five.

Severino's looked better since the All-Star break, allowing four runs over 11.2 innings in his last two starts after surrendering 14 earned runs in the previous two outings. Overall, it's been a shaky campaign for Severino since he returned to the Yankees rotation in late May. His ERA now sits at 6.46 with a 1.73 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB through 11 starts (54.1 innings). The 29-year-old right-hander is currently lined up to face the Orioles on the road in his next outing.

Cortes (shoulder) covered 2.1 innings in his rehab start Sunday for Double-A Somerset, striking out four while allowing one earned run on four hits and no walks.

Cortes' appearance was his first at any level since May 30 following a prolonged recovery from a left rotator cuff strain. The southpaw was lifted after 42 pitches Sunday, and manager Aaron Boone previously said that Cortes would likely require three rehab starts in total before being ready to return from the 60-day injured list. If he escapes his subsequent two rehab outings free of setbacks, Cortes could rejoin the Yankees rotation when he's first eligible for activation Aug. 3.

Faedo (2-4) earned the win Sunday, allowing one hit and four walks over six scoreless innings against San Diego. He struck out two.

It was an impressive performance from Faedo, who allowed seven runs over just 3.2 innings in his last major-league outing against Toronto earlier this month. The 27-year-old right-hander struggled with command a bit Sunday, walking four, though he was able to keep the Padres off the board, allowing just one hit while inducing three double plays. Faedo has shown some promise this season, though he still sports a 5.80 ERA despite an impressive 1.04 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB. While he was called up to make a spot start Sunday, the Tigers could elect to give Faedo another look in the rotation following his strong outing.

Gray (leg) will start Monday's series opener against the Astros, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander exited his previous outing Wednesday against Tampa Bay after being struck in the shin by a comebacker, but he's been cleared to make his next start and has actually been moved up a day in the rotation with Nathan Eovaldi (rest) being skipped. Gray has an 0-4 record with a 4.66 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB across 38.2 frames in seven starts since he last picked up a victory.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Eovaldi will have his turn in the rotation skipped during the upcoming three-game series in Houston, which begins Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Eovaldi has delivered scoreless outings in two of his past three starts but has just 10 total strikeouts across 18.1 innings as he's experienced a dip in his velocity, so the Rangers have decided to give him some extra rest. As a result, Jon Gray (leg) will be moved up a day to start Monday. Eovaldi could re-enter the rotation during the three-game set at San Diego next weekend.

Kaprielian (shoulder) completed a bullpen session Saturday as expected, the Associated Press reports.

Kaprielian's session is another step forward after he recently began throwing on flat ground. Assuming he doesn't experience any residual effects from Saturday's activity in coming days, the right-hander may be deemed ready to face live hitters as the next step in his recovery from a right shoulder strain.

Miller (elbow) completed an all-fastballs flat-ground session Saturday, the Associated Press reports.

Miller's session is another encouraging step as he attempts to come back from the UCL sprain he suffered during the first half of May. Assuming he doesn't experience any residual effects in the coming days, Miller may be deemed ready to progress to throwing live batting practice soon.

The Tigers recalled Faedo from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Padres at Comerica Park.

Detroit optioned reliever Brendan White to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Faedo, who has had issues with run prevention (6.98 ERA) in six starts in the majors this season despite solid underlying ratios (3.93 SIERA, 19.7 K-BB%). He'll be stepping into the Detroit rotation as a temporary sixth starter while the Tigers look to give Tarik Skubal an additional day of rest before his next scheduled outing Monday versus San Francisco. If Faedo fares well in his return to the big leagues, however, it's possible that he sticks around in the rotation as a potential replacement for rookie Reese Olson, who was blasted for five earned runs in five innings Friday versus the Padres.
