Guardians' Cody Bolton: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Bolton to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

  • Joey Cantillo SP | CLE

Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Quick return to big leagues

The Guardians recalled Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander was optioned to Columbus on Monday, but he's eligible to be recalled a day later since Paul Sewald (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Cantillo has been an effective bullpen piece for Cleveland early this year and has a 2.35 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

  • Paul Sewald RP | ARI

Guardians' Paul Sewald: To IL with shoulder strain

The Guardians placed Sewald on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder strain, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Sewald was forced to depart an appearance Monday against the Twins due to the injury and it will cost him at least the next couple weeks of action. The veteran reliever had been roughed up for five runs over 3.2 innings covering his last five outings.

  • Kevin Ginkel RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kevin Ginkel: Reinstated from injured list

The Diamondbacks activated Ginkel (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Ginkel has been sidelined for the first month of the season due to shoulder inflammation, but he's ready to rejoin the Diamondbacks after a two-outing rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno. The right-hander recorded five saves and 18 holds with a 3.21 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:15 K:BB across 70 innings last season and should fill a high-leverage role again in 2025. Justin Martinez and Shelby Miller are likely to remain the favorite for saves initially, but Ginkel could see some chances with A.J. Puk (elbow) on the injured list.

  • Paxton Schultz RP | WAS

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Returns to Triple-A

The Blue Jays optioned Schultz to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

The right-hander was called up by Toronto on April 20 and struck out eight over 4.1 scoreless frames in his MLB debut that day, but he'll head back to Triple-A after giving up three runs across 2.1 innings Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Schultz is likely to get another look in the big leagues at some point this season, but for now he'll return to Buffalo.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Mets' Jose Urena: DFA'd by New York

Urena was designated for assignment by the Mets on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The Mets removed Urena from the 40-man roster in order to recall Kevin Herget from Triple-A Syracuse. Urena tossed three innings of relief Monday against the Nationals and allowed seven hits, including a pair of homers, and five earned runs in the Mets' 19-5 win. Despite the rough outing, Urena was credited with the save.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Mets' Kevin Herget: Recalled from Triple-A

The Mets recalled Herget from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

In a corresponding move, New York designated Jose Urena for assignment. Herget appeared in seven regular-season games out of the bullpen for the Brewers last season, registering a 1.59 ERA and 9:3 K:BB across 11.1 innings.

  • Ian Anderson RP | ATL

Braves' Ian Anderson: DFA'd by Atlanta

Atlanta designated Anderson for assignment Tuesday.

The right-hander was claimed off waivers over the weekend and didn't make an appearance before being dumped from the 40-man roster. Anderson was traded from Atlanta to the Angels just before the start of the regular season and posted an 11.57 ERA and 8:7 K:BB over 9.1 innings before being let go by Anaheim.

  • Kade Strowd P | ARI

Orioles' Kade Strowd: Optioned to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Strowd to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Kyle Gibson, who will start Tuesday's game versus the Yankees. Strowd was with the big club for only one day and did not make an appearance.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Yankees' Devin Williams: Pitches clean inning in relief

Williams struck out one batter in a scoreless inning in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Orioles.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday that Williams was being temporarily removed as the team's closer after the right-hander gave up three earned runs in consecutive appearances. Williams got a chance to work in a lower-leverage situation Monday, as New York trailed by one in the eighth inning when he entered the game. He had little trouble dispatching of the three Orioles batters he faced, needing 14 pitches (nine strikes) to retire the side in order. If Williams is able to smooth things out and put together a string of effective outings, he could move back into the closer role in due time.
