  • Josh Staumont RP | CIN

Royals' Josh Staumont: Out with biceps tendinitis

Staumont was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right biceps tendinitis, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Staumont has surrendered 10 runs in his past four outings and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks due to the tendinitis. He also threw a career-high 42 pitches over 1.1 innings Tuesday versus Arizona. The 28-year-old will be eligible for activation Sept. 9.

  • Royals' Anthony Misiewicz: Called up by Royals

Misiewicz was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Misiewicz was traded from the Mariners to the Royals at the beginning of August, but he's spent the last few weeks at the Triple-A level. He made 17 relief appearances in the majors earlier in the year and posted a 4.61 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 13.2 innings and should serve mainly as a middle reliever in Kansas City's bullpen.

  • Collin Snider RP | CHC

    Royals' Collin Snider: Recalled Wednesday

Snider was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Snider returned to the majors Saturday and tossed 1.1 perfect innings against the Rays that same day. He was sent down Tuesday but will rejoin the major-league bullpen in response to Josh Staumont's (biceps) placement on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

  • Jake Cousins RP | LAD

Brewers' Jake Cousins: Reinstated, sent down Wednesday

Cousins (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Cousins was sidelined since the end of April, but he began a rehab assignment in late July and recorded a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 10 innings over 10 minor-league appearances. The 28-year-old will remain in the minors now that he's back to full health.

  • Brewers' J.C. Mejia: Outrighted to Triple-A

Mejia was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Mejia was optioned to Nashville after being reinstated from his suspension last week, and he'll now lose his spot on the Brewers' 40-man roster. Over six minor-league appearances since the start of August, he's allowed three runs on three hits and no walks while striking out four in 5.2 innings.

  • Cole Sands RP | MIN

Twins' Cole Sands: Lands on injured list

Sands was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Sands was hit in the elbow by a comebacker during Tuesday's loss to the Astros, and the issue will force him to miss at least two weeks. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but Devin Smeltzer was recalled Wednesday to take his place on the active roster.

  • Devin Smeltzer RP | MIA

Twins' Devin Smeltzer: Called up Wednesday

Smeltzer was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Smeltzer was sent down Monday but will rejoin the Twins two days later after Cole Sands (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Smeltzer has made 12 of his 13 appearances in the majors this year as a starter, but he'll likely provide length out of the bullpen now that he's back with the big-league club.

  • Cubs' Nicholas Padilla: Returns to Triple-A

Padilla was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Padilla served as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals and allowed a run over 1.2 frames in his big-league debut. The 25-year-old will now return to Iowa, where he has a 1.69 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB since being promoted from Double-A in late July.

  • Trevor Kelley RP | SEA

Brewers' Trevor Kelley: Optioned to Triple-A

Kelley was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Kelley spent a week in the Brewers' bullpen and allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two in two scoreless innings against the Dodgers on Tuesday. However, he'll head back to the minors after Adrian Houser (elbow) was reinstated from the injured list ahead of Wednesday's start.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Day-to-day with shoulder issue

Holderman was diagnosed with right shoulder discomfort following his appearance in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

The injury likely explains why Holderman was woefully ineffective Wednesday, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs on three hits and a walk. The Pirates are labeling Holderman as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could be in the forecast if he doesn't show significant improvement heading into the weekend.
