Castro (shoulder) threw 17 pitches in an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Castro will make another appearance Saturday, with the goal of throwing between 25 and 35 pitches. If that outing goes well, he could be activated for the start of Arizona's series against Atlanta on Monday.

Contreras (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out one across 2.2 innings to take the loss versus the Athletics on Thursday.

Contreras lasted three frames in his previous start, also against Oakland, but he ran into trouble in the third frame Thursday. The right-hander has pitched to a 3.72 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 19.1 innings across 11 appearances with the Angels, though none of those outings have been longer than three innings. He's started his last two games since the Angels lack few in-house options for their rotation. Overall, he's at a 4.04 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 32:18 K:BB through 35.2 innings between the Angels and the Pirates this year. If he receives another start, it's projected to be at home versus the Rangers early next week.

Manager Pat Murphy said Thursday that Wilson will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Following the acquisition of Aaron Civale from Tampa Bay, Wilson will end up as the odd man out of Milwaukee's rotation. The 26-year-old owns a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 78 innings on the season, though his numbers drop to a 3.72 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in his 11 appearances as a reliever. He'll likely be asked to handle a multi-inning role as he moves to the Brewers' bullpen, and he could return to the rotation if another one of Milwaukee's starters gets injured.

The Diamondbacks recalled Jacques from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Since being claimed off waivers from Boston in April, Jacuqes has recorded a 4.58 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 17.2 innings with Reno. He'll now join the big-league roster to add some depth to Arizona's bullpen, and Cristian Mena will head back to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Hoeing (hamstring) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday versus the White Sox, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Hoeing has been used as a starter plenty in the past but has been deployed exclusively in relief in 2024 aside from a one-inning "start" on his rehab assignment. The 27-year-old threw 49 pitches over 2.2 frames in his most recent rehab appearance, so the Miami bullpen will be needed Friday. It's unclear whether the Marlins intend to have Hoeing gradually build up his pitch count in his ensuing starts, or if he'll just be making a spot start Friday before moving to the bullpen.

King (3-1) got the win in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Pirates. He pitched two innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits.

After pitching a clean ninth, the 29-year-old gave up a pair of two-out singles in the 10th to allow the designated runner to score, but manager Oliver Marmol showed trust by letting King finish off the game. The lefty reliever got off to a strong start this season with a 1.33 ERA over his first 20.1 innings, but he's struggled of late with a 5.25 ERA in his last 12 innings. His sharp command remains his calling card, as he's walked only four batters all season and will carry a 2.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP into his next outing.

Dubin will start Friday's game in Minnesota, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

The 28-year-old threw 55 pitches over 3.1 innings in a start against the Mets over the weekend, but that was his first start in either the majors or minors this season. Though Dubin will be making a second straight turn through the rotation, he still could be hard pressed to reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win.

Pallante came away with a no-decision in Thursday's win over the Pirates. He allowed one run in seven innings, giving up four hits and striking out five.

The right-hander gave up a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the fourth, which turned out to be Pallante's only hiccup Thursday. For the third time in his career and the first this season, he went at least seven innings in a start. He's been a dependable option for the Cardinals since being inserted into the rotation in May, pitching to a 3.34 ERA over seven starts. Outside of his starts versus the Astros and Giants, in which he gave up a combined 11 earned runs, Pallante has given up only two earned runs over his other five starts this season.

Leiter (forearm) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jared Wyllys of CHGO Sports reports.

Leiter is tracking toward a live batting practice session later this week and a return to the Cubs' bullpen next week. The reliever is eligible for activation July 9, and it sounds like he could be back by then without a rehab assignment.

The Dodgers optioned Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Petersen allowed four runs over two relief innings Wednesday versus the Diamondbacks, so he's being sent out in favor of a fresh arm. Nick Ramirez will absorb the roster spot.
