Hoeing dropped to 0-1 in Friday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over three innings while striking out four batters.

Making his first appearance since recovering from a hamstring strain that had sidelined him for over two months, Hoeing was surprisingly sharp over 46 pitches (32 strikes), but Miami's offense didn't get on the board until the seventh inning. Given the tattered state of the team's staff -- the Marlins have enough starting pitchers on the injured list to fill an entire rotation and then some -- Hoeing could continue to be deployed in a tandem with rookie Roddery Munoz, who worked four innings in relief Friday. Hoeing has been the more effective of the two arms this season, posting a 1.99 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 22.2 innings.

Kopech gave up a run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Marlins. He struck out one.

With two on and two outs in the ninth inning, Kopech gave up an RBI single to Bryan De La Cruz, but he then got Josh Bell to ground out to escape the jam. Kopech isn't exactly locked in right now, stumbling to a 6.91 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB over his last 14.1 innings while blowing three of six save chances, but the White Sox seem content to deploy him at the team's closer for now, perhaps in an effort to increase his trade value.

Spiers (2-2) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Reds fell 5-4 to the Tigers. He struck out three.

The right-hander served up solo shots to Parker Meadows and Colt Keith in the third inning, before Keith tagged him again for a two-run blast in the fifth. Spiers had lasted exactly six innings in each of his prior three starts, but after allowing zero homers over his first 31.1 big-league innings this season, he's now been taken deep four times in his last 10.2 frames. He'll look to tighten up his command in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Rockies.

Holmes blew his fifth save chance of the season in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, giving up two runs on two hits in the ninth inning without striking out a batter.

With two outs in the ninth and the Yankees holding a 3-1 lead, Holmes gave up a single to Dominic Smith before leaving a sinker over the middle of the plate that Masataka Yoshida blasted to right field for a game-tying homer. Holmes has been tagged for runs in five of seven appearances since his last save June 9, stumbling to a 10.80 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 6.2 innings over that stretch despite an 8:0 K:BB. His spot as the Yankees' closer doesn't seem to be in jeopardy yet, but the 31-year-old will likely need to right the ship before the trade deadline if he doesn't want New York shopping for his replacement.

Jansen gave up a hit in a scoreless 10th inning Friday to record his 17th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Yankees.

The veteran closer is on an impressive roll. Jansen has been scored upon only once in his last 14 appearances, racking up two wins and 10 saves on 10 chances over that stretch with a 0.61 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over 14.2 innings. The 36-year-old isn't as dominant as he was during his Dodgers heyday, but Jansen is still finding ways to be effective and has yet to serve up a home run in 2024.

Foley allowed two runs on four hits but managed to secure the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

Foley started the ninth inning with a 5-2 lead but was generally ineffective as he allowed Cincinnati back into the game before eventually escaping. Despite the blip, the righty has been mostly reliable this year, compiling a 3.26 ERA across 30.1 innings and recording 14 saves in 16 chances. Foley isn't the most exciting option, but as long as he remains the closer in Detroit, he'll maintain fantasy value.

Phillips struck out the side to earn the save in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Phillips needed just 12 pitches (nine strikes) to set the Brewers down in order to protect a three-run lead. It's an encouraging sign, as he had allowed a run in each of his last two outings. Phillips is up to 14 saves and one hold through 26.2 innings this season, and he's maintained a strong 2.03 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB.

Sewald (0-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while failing to record an out, taking a blown save and the loss versus the Padres on Friday.

After a sterling start to the year, Sewald has fallen flat to begin July. He's allowed five runs over two appearances this month, resulting in a blown save and a loss in both instances. He's now at a 3.12 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 17.1 innings while converting 11 of his 13 save chances on the year. The Diamondbacks are already lagging behind in the wild-card race, and Sewald's newfound struggles won't help them make up ground. If he continues to falter, he may have to settle for being part of a closer committee with a new team if he's traded this month.

Suarez allowed three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning to take a blown save in Friday's 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks.

Suarez has typically been dominant when called upon, but he served up a grand slam to Alek Thomas, allowing three inherited runners to score, and then a two-run home run to Randal Grichuk. While the Diamondbacks briefly took an 8-7 lead, Stephen Kolek was able to finish off the inning, and the Padres rallied to win in their half of the ninth. Both of Suarez's blown saves this year have come over his last eight appearances, a span in which he's given up six runs (five earned) across 6.1 innings. He's at a 1.77 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB through 35.2 innings overall while adding 22 saves and a hold.

Munoz pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays.

This was Munoz's first save since June 18 -- he blew a save June 24, which was his only opportunity over his last five appearances. The right-hander has seen the most high-leverage spots rather than being strictly confined to the ninth inning. He faced the 9-1-2 hitters Friday to earn his 14th save in 16 chances this year. Munoz has added a 1.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 43:14 K:BB across 35 innings while adding six holds. With Munoz's usage being more flexible, Ryne Stanek has forced his way into the closer conversation, though the Mariners' recent poor play hasn't led to many save chances for either reliever.
